  • is it just me, or 1:28 onwards is almost a quote from Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin opera (Tatiana's letter scene)??? great sonata, gonna learn it soon.

  • Come on... That's me, definitely.

  • @nerevarinezio Skasmos eipa!

  • @erickhoffmann Oleg told me he's never played it before, so nope, it's not him.

  • Nice Interpretetion!

At Paris conservatory they play often Poulainc,Ravel..it's normal..

  • suk for sure :) best one.

  • The sharpness of the sound and vibrato speed remind me of midori

  • Ok, I think I've got it... Is it Michael Rabin?? Like maybe an early Rabin?

  • Josef Suk , Jan Paneka.

  • @hecvln .i agree. it is undoubtly suk.

  • @hecvln .i agree. it is undoubtly suk.

  • Mintz?

  • is there a `perfect` recording of ANYTHING really?

  • Milstein ? The Fibrato reminds me of him

  • Ginette Neveu?

  • @trumerei i could see it being Neveu

  • whoaaaa that first theme just blew my mindddd:D i now have a more broad outlook on life:)

  • I agree with paulprocopolis. This recording was made by Josef Suk and Jan Panenka, and, in my humble opinion, it´s probably the best enregistrement from this work, passionate and amazing. Thank you for post it, rvt!

  • at least tell the piaaanist!

  • I also have this recording, although I've never had the CD or case so don't have any information about it. Trying to figure out the performer has been bugging me for years! It's the best recording out there of a great sonata.

  • Superbe sonate! J'ai envie de la travailler!

  • I'm pretty sure it's Josef Suk and Jan Panenka - a great recording! (I've just uploaded it without realising that it was already here!)

  • BEVERLY SOMACH?

  • Grumiaux?

  • Or is it Oleg Kagan? (I heard him live in 1968 and was greatly impressed.)

  • It's Pinky then?

  • Hugh Bean? ^^

  • Zukerman

  • It's got to be Pincas Zukerman

  • Such an Isaac Stern sound - powerful tone - the way the chords are played, the shifts, the vibrato - my odd are on him

  • Isaac Stern?

  • No this can only be ONE violinist: this must be Ginette Neveu! (that special fiery tone. Noone else can produce it.)

  • nope

  • Did I already ask whether or not it was Oistrakh?

    Or Heifetz?

can you just msg me with the right answer? :)

  • nope

  • @rareviolintreasures it is Suk, correct? What a brilliant recording.

  • At first I thought George Enesco. But then I thought his pupil Yehudi Menuhin! (early recording.) Am I right?

  • nope

  • nope

  • nope

  • Beautiful...

  • nope

  • After listening all the way through and thinking about who had the exotic vibrato and who plays kind of "loose"...Ivry Gitlis?

  • nope

  • oh well..at least I played

  • my goodness Scott..throw me a bone--living? dead? time frame..country..something...

  • shh its a secret

  • Love this piece...sounds like a French or exotic vibrato but I am not good at stuff like this..somebody not tremendously strict about following rules of technique...

hmmm...???? I am probably way off base...

  • Distinguished performance for a music plenty of elegance and mistery. Poulenc is not just a composer but a dandy that composes. Thanks a million for sharing.

  • of course it is not his recording, but I recommend that one

  • zimmerman is tremendous and certainly better than the mystery violinist featured here

have you heard grumiaux play the poulenc?

  • Frank peter Zimmermann and Alexander Lonquich

  • Frank Peter Zimmermann

  • Frank Peter Zimmermann and Alexander Lonquich!!!

  • I think the Midori recording is close to perfect, but perfect is a matter of opinion.

  • hers was too fast for me

  • I think that's why I like it and even at that speed it's very crisp. It has direction - this one, while clean, doesn't feel like it's going anywhere. Nice to hear another recording though - It's one of my favorite sonatas and it doesn't get played nearly enough. Do you have any good recordings of the Saint-Saens?

  • yes i put up the shaham recording a long time ago, i cant believe its out of print!

i have heard heifetz play it too and that was interesting

  • could it be Oistrakh?

    thank you very much

  • nope

  • hmm.. Ferras? ^^

  • nope

  • omg give me a time period at least xDD
