  • Ya'll should be aware that confessional poetry started in America with the beats and folks like Lowell and Plath. That's some serious heritage for you.

  • @TheStephen60 It must be hard to live some way that corresponds with the belief that music is purely style with no substantial potency. Must feel awful dull.

I've got my deliberation, my scruples, and my subtlety, but without moments of contrast and therein conviction what's the point of the psyche?

I can't believe I just said that, I've learned something about myself today.

  • "Prepare to be told 'that shit's gay dude'"

    Holy shit...

  • If you want pitch correction listen to Mtv. If you want great music listen to Titus Andronicus.

  • I just came...wait, it's only been 20 seconds?

  • Just discovered this band yesterday and I'm blown away. Simply incredible

  • ugh. titus is just so GOOD. every time i hear one song, any song by them, i'm blown away. by far one of my all-time favorite bands.

  • This guy is such an amazing song writer

  • and when I smoke I will smoke gaping holes in my chest.

This guy pretty much nailed why I smoke.

  • Managed to get this one played as a drive time request on WZBC Boston in the morning. Poor DJ actually felt bad about having to cut it at 8 minutes to do the concert report.

  • This just might be the best thing ever

  • prepare to be told that shit's gay dude

  • This was a big distraction during my project on ironclad ships in the civil war. I better get back to it now...

  • This song makes me want to change the world, fall in love, run a marathon - just fucking do something!

  • the vocals are great and the lyrics are somehow better. this is one of the best >10 minute songs ever made. every minute counts and isn't filler BS.

  • They're playing Philly next week and I'm totally going!

  • @TheStephen60 "It is a bleeding punk rock war cry. Through the vocals I hear a real person. Real emotion. Not a perfect voice." I could not have said it better my self. :)

  • Are they from hampton roads???

  • @CoPezz happton roads was a naval battle between two iornclad ships during the civil war. The ships fired everything they had at one another but they ended up both retreating being unable to damage each other. I made the same mistake though when i first found the song. Actually, this entire album has influence from the civil war era. The Monitor was one of the ironclad ships.

  • @fatdeadsheep and @jzalberg thanks guys (or girls i guess)

  • @CoPezz No. The Battle of Hampton Roads was a battle in the civil war.

  • fucking legendary!

  • I just saw these guys yesterday at the house of blues with the pogues,

    SO GLAD I SAW THEM

  • fuck a bunch of over analyzation, listen to the song, it is more than the sum of it's parts, listen to it!! It moves me.

  • The last part that starts around 10:47 is absolutely amazing.

  • This was the best song of 2010. It begins with a reference to a famous Civil War battle and then blasts the listener through fifteen minutes of angst, humor, pathos, rage...and a bagpipe solo. "Is there a soul on this earth that isn't too frightened to move?"

  • Hah, Ken Burns effect.

  • @TheStephen60 I completely agree. Any vocals with passion like this cannot be bad. There's a lot of skilled singers out there with no passion. I'll take passion and emotion over technical skill any day. If you have a song in your heart, you must sing it, regardless of your voice. But I suppose each is to their own as to what they regard as "good singing." On another note, this is probably my favorite song of the year!

  • @TheStephen60

I agree with OddFacade in that his voice is really crappy. That's not to say it's not effective, though. If it was any other singer (perhaps someone who did the vocals in a less gritty way) then the desperation just wouldn't be effectively expressed. So, yeah he's not a great singer, but the song would not be same without it.

  • @TheStephen60 Don't get me wrong; emotion in songs is fine and dandy when it's not... cut-cut slit my wrist with my razor heart and junk. I've heard emotion in songs in which the vocals weren't terrible. x.x They aren't perfectly terrible here, but they're a bit raw, not stated as emotion, but in just the sound as it comes from the throat.

Second thought: "tourist" seems like a lame word to use. Cliche, a bit.

  • @OddFacade If you cant get what i said before when listening to this song, this really isnt the band for you.

  • FUCK YES

  • Titus Andronicus forever

  • @mateus2 Hell yeah.

  • This is one of the best lyrical songs ever written. Listen, really listen, to the song and you will be totally blown away.

  • So epic.

  • @TheInvisibleCollege That is the first word that came to mind after hearing this the first time. Simply and truly epic.
