The elephant tried to scare the buffalo away, stomping the ground and throwing dirt at it. Ears are also flayed out, in a threatening mode. Only because the buffalo was too injured, did it not move.
@shenze11 Uh no they are not , they are just as dangerous as lions , they are just portrayed as nice and almost cuddly. Elephants kill up 50 people every year.
So many people act like they are some sort of Zen masters here... oh boo hoo, nature's balance, no one should have helped the buffalo, stuff like that.
Ok.. let's find the nature's balance in human society too and let the hungry starve to death, let the stupid die out from not being able to find a livelihood, etc etc. Compassion is not unnatural.
The elephant instinctively chased off the lion. The same thing it would have done if it were in a herd. Elephant is bigger (obviously) and was claiming the area. It couldn't give too shakes about the buffalo
perhaps kicking dirt on the wounded buffalo is something to help it to disguise the scent of blood,in an attempt to protect it from the lioness or other lurking predators from finding it or attacking it further.I'm just guessing but it seemed compassionate to me.
@Parody111 obviously you have not seen the horns on the water buffalo. that curl back wards then back towards the head. natural built in protection method the lioness probably is smart and doesnt want a horn through her neck.
The elephant said to the buffalo,"GET UP AND GO OR DIE LIKE A BITCH". The buffalo reponded to the elephant,"PLEASE LEAVE ME AND SAVE YOURSELF WHILE YOU STILL CAN". And the elephant turned and said,"FUCK YOU WEAK ASS BITCH I HOPE YOU DIE!!!
Firstly, I think the buffalo itself chased the lion away. Secondly, the elephant wsn't showing compassion, instd tried 2 prove its authority. But the buffalo was so injured that it couldn't run away..
cuddly, you dont think that the buffalo is a formiddable opponent? that lion bit off more than it could chew.probably didnt know what else 2 do. if it goes for the jugular it may end up hurt or "gulp" dead!
highstakes the buffalo is aggressive and formidable for the first 39 seconds. Then we keep losing gaps of the action in the editing. Thereafter it looks like the buffalo never takes a swipe at the lion with those dangerous horns. You may be right; for whatever reason the lion doesn't press the attack. Instead it pursues a "til death do us part" type hold until Nelly the Heffalump comes by. BTW the "compassion" notion is bunk. Nelly is displeased.
That lion is exhausted or not hungry. A seriously hunting cat goes for the jugular immediately. This lion just holds on to the prey who isn't going anywhere, probably until more of the pride arrive to share the beef.
It seems like there wasn't a pride. Maybe the lioness was an outcast. And going for the jugular is too much when you're dealing with a buffalo on your own. That can only be done when there are a few more lions to restrain the buffalo.
i love nature and all its glory, the thrill of the hunt, you never know whats going to happen, you can be the king for the day, and the next min... BAMMMMM... you're a snack to some opertunistic croc. I love it!!!!!
poor buffalo, bloody lion's are surposed to choke them, not eat them alive thats the hyena's job, elephants are king of the jungle by day, lion's by night thats a fact
Lailum everything has it's place in this world but unfortunately we can't say the same thing to you. Hopefully one day you might evolve into a modern human.
buffalos are at the bottom of the food chain, those fuckin thing do nth but graze and propagate, leeching the natural resources dry, good thing we have the lions, king of the jungle, to keep those mindless brutes in check that's why the lions are white and the buffalos are black
To me it looks very clear that the elephant is agitated by the presence of both animals and clearly charges (not only the lioness but also) the buffalo! (The elephant is flapping it's ears und also trumpeting. An elephants's compassion looks different)
i actually thought the elephant kicked sand on him to cover up his wounds. as if he knew that sand would cover his wounds to heal. (that is if that was true with sand and wounds.)
I think he threw sand on the ox to cool it down as it must've been exhausted. Or maybe it wanted to approach the Ox and offer help but the ox was threatening to attack, because it was under a great deal of stress and must've been agitated, and so the elephant threw sand in order to prevent the ox from charging.
yeah, yeah, that was actually also my first thought; my second thought was than maybe the elephant 'said': "Hey, why don't you escape to safe now when I am here, there is no lion here now. Get up, you may save your life if you do...!"
Nosy elephant (get it....?nosy ..,elephant?) any way theres nothing compassionate abt this vid ,the elephant is clearly pissed at the buffualo for letting a lioness make it it's bitch .thats why it kicked sand and probably said something rude.
The stupid buffalo will go back to it's herd and lie abt the whole thing ,saying there were 3 male lions or somrthing ,life sucks
It is strange that the buffalo never uses its weight advantage to trample or roll over on to the lion. The elephant and the lion are natural enemies which is why the elephant gets mad and goes after the lion. That leaves elephant and sitting buffalo. I don't think buffalos and elephants eat one another, do they? The elephant is just pissed and kicks some sand at someone smaller - that's no compassion it's disdain. Anthropomophising these events with music doesn't change anything.
OH, so it's not compassion... it's DISDAIN. That's just as ridiculous a thing to say! It looks possible to me that the elephant is trying to get the buffalo to get up and run. Elephants certainly help their own kind, as do buffalo, so I really don't think it's that much of a stretch. Compassion? I don't know. But helping... seems likely.
highbelter, if ever you are wounded like that buffalo you will appreciate me kicking sand at you, roaring at you and then I'll run away. Is that what you mean by helping?
LOL, good comeback... But it still seems reasonable to me to think the elephant is trying to shoo the animal, and get it to its feet. Granted not the gentlest way, but then the buffalo is crazy with fear and has horns! Animals do help each other after all - it's not anthropomorphizing them to think so.
It is instinct. This sort of thing has happened before. It's simple: the elephant mistakes the buffalo for a young elephant, so protects it. It's true. This is the explanation the experts give for this sort of thing.
@Sqid101 i think that is true in part, it could be misdirected maternal instinct. whether or not the elephant mistakes the buffalo as a young elephant its maternal instincts can still come into play. There are cases of interspecies maternal instincts in wild animals. kicking the sand and flapping the ears was an attempt to get the buffalo up and moving. Humans are instinctive animals too. What the heck, I will call it compassion too at the risk of anthropomorphising it.
@andrommeeda You raise some interesting points. Yes, humans are instinctive animals, too; and is there that much difference between human and animal maternal instincts? From an evolutionary point of view, perhaps not very much at all. So "animal" maternal instincts are just as much a form of "compassion", I suppose", as are human ones.
It looks like the elephant did good, but what will probably happen is that the buffalo will die of exhaustion and wounds and possibly the lion will also starve.
Elephants are very intelligent and creative animals. They are also known for being sympathetic and sentimental. One of the few species of animal that mourns their dead.
What does it mean when the elephant put dirt on the buffalo like that? I would love to know the facts rather than just simple guessing that it was being compassionate towards him.
The biggest mistake that buffalo made was turning his back on that lioness. I have seen it myself even at home with my cats, the second one turns his/ her back on the other they use it to their advantage and attack them (whether maliciously or playfighting). I can't watch this, I know it's nature and everything but I can't stand to see an animal in pain crying out in agony. It upsets me too much.
Because the lion population has been so decimated in Africa, it makes you wonder where the rest of the pride is. A pride would have ended the buffalo's suffering far more quickly.
Honestly I've seen a bit more of this footage. The description should've read sonemthing like "A thirsty lioness came across a seriously injured buffalo and struggled for 6 hours to kill it". It would help those who think the lion is sooooo powerful. BTW, one on one and healthy, the lion is no match
If you look at the back right leg, you can clearly see it is broken and limp. The water buffalo would have had no chance in the wild other than slowly starve to death.
This series of film was very interesting to watch, thank you... It must've felt so unreal to witness. However I have a question about the music, it is very beautiful, who is it performed by? Merci!
woww.. esta leona esta super poderosa, he visto videos en donde 6 leonas y un leon no pueden contra un buffalo y esta si pudo con su fuerza de 7 leones jaja.. pero pobre buffalo como sufre pero asi es la ley de la vida
to maximaall. No the leg was not broken, but the achilles tendon of the right hind leg was severed, and the left hind leg badly damaged, swollen and probably has an abcess. Bitten of in an earlier attack by lions?
Thanks Max! The lionness was on her own and a buffalo is a huge animal to kill, she has broken his leg first to make it easier to kill.Very strategic! THX for the comment! Cheers!
