Brilliant, I remember seeing this on the telly back in the day. @fonteyn, could be wrong here, but apparently they (The Manics) went looking for Dave Fanning (the presenter as per start of this vid) afterwards, mistakenly attributing to him comments that Gerry Ryan had made?

this was a big deal in Dublin at the time. I think Seal was to perform but at the last minute Sony had to replaced him with the virtually unknown Manics.

From what I remember the Manics got super-drunk, trashed Sony's table at the awards, started at fight with the show's host (he had mocked them onstage), went on to raise hell in nightclubs afterwards and were branded 'animals' by Sony Ireland who refused to have anything to do with them again (except when they hit paydirt 4 years later)

yes! nicky lay wasted on the floor, after having poped all the balloons, sean shouted 'boring!' throughout the whole interview, james was close to punching the interviewer while richey emptied 4 bottles of free wine into a bucket, added salt and pepper and watched it overflow on the Sony table, which had to be removed (information Q magazine)

I love Richey's method of trashing the Sony table. It's just so complex and so very him. Few people would think about it.
