  • Nice shooting Tex, lol please more of the Russian hotties lol

  • i am from Volgograd) and i glad to see american's tourists in our city)))

  • @Jeniferrr007

I hope that they don't bring you troubles.

  • The Rodina Statue???? Wtf Rodina Is My Name....Rodina Williams

  • @alanlovescrankthat In English it's more commonly know as the Staue of Mother Russia, or something along those lines.

  • wow! imagine that! a statue 2 times taller that the statue of liberty....

  • i'd love to see that too :D

  • That the Mamayev Kurgan. One of the most important points during the Batlle of Stalingrad.

  • What a glorious statue, definitely on my list of things to see before I die.

  • This was the place, and this was the very hill, on which the most important single battle of World War Two (The Great Patriotic War) was fought. If they had made the Rodina statue out of the blood the Russians shed here, instead of concrete, it would be even larger than it is now. This is a monument to courage, courage and utter determination.

  • great nation!

  • I got to make it there in my lifetime.

  • This place is awesome. Volgagrad is a great city. If you ever visit Russia come here.

  • what will you if it's alive and walk towards on you?

imagine a 450 foot giant alive and kicking. lol...XD

  • I was hoping you would continue to approach the statue. Nevermind - there's lots of video on youtube about it to fill in further angles.

It is an astonishingly immense and somewhat frightening thing. I suppose it was calculated to strike just that intimidating pose. The shocking face looks almost like the sculptor got the inspiration from the Medusa by Caravaggio.

  • I think the intent was more "heroic", and designed to pay tribute to those who rallied to Volgograd's defense {"answering the Motherland's call"} -- but, you're right, it does look intimidating.

As for inspiration, the wiki article states that it was thought that Vucechic's {sp} inspiration was thought to be the Winged Victory of Samothrace, with more expansive covering . . .

  • this statue was made by russian serb evgeny vucetic!

  • Aaaa Motherland!

  • thank you, good movie. the most impressive and scaring monument I know. I visited "Mamajew Kurgan" just on Google Maps :) whished you had filmed the "Pavlov House" also. did you see it?

  • is that the mamayev kurgan?

  • yes it is

  • I was there last summer,was great....I love satlingrad

  • Isn't it called Stalingrad?

  • It was called Stalingrad in the war after Stalin... but then changed to Volgagrad after the Volga River .. since Stalin was not a positive model for Russia after the war. There is a huge statue of Lenin there on the river now, too.

  • Um dude, what's wrong with Stalin?

  • Well... he is dead... other than that I was only commenting on what I have been told. I could care less if he was good or bad. Im not political. Some say Putin is bad .. he has done wonders for Russia... Some say Bush is great.. Im from Texas and wont even comment on that ! I married a Russian lady.. To me , Russia is a great country ... wouldnt trade ANY of my experiences there for anything ! When I get my residency we plan to live in Russia .. NOT America... so , if you are ever in Moscow...

  • =)nice hear that, i met some americans in st petersburg while studying there and they dissed russia a lot..i also love it here, im from finland

  • The problem with "Americans" is.. 99% of them think the USA is the best country in the world and they can't learn anything from any other country. It is "our way or the highway". "Those" Americans are 100% wrong. You can learn something from everyone. I like to admit I am in the "other" 1%.

  • love from america!peace

  • just what we need ,another liar dissing america. you know no one dissed russia, why are you lying?

  • sorry to inform you but sone american exchange students that I met in Russia dissed russia...I wont say that they are all that kind, but at least the ones that i met 2 different groups 2 different times..

  • Man.. I'm sorry to differ, but we as americans diss everything... too much freedom of speech..

  • Going there this summer!!! Just cant wait till...i was born there and a have a lot of friends left there!!! Already bought a ticket!!! Summer, come sooner!!! VOLGOGRAD I AM COMING!!!)))))))

  • good video and the memorial is very impressive.

  • good video and the memorial is very impressive.

  • Great statue - im proud to say my grandfathers fought there!

  • I'm heading there in the fall. I can't wait.

  • wow .. impressive .. gotta visit that one day .. best country in the world .. greetings from serbia!!

  • That statue one of most impressive things I've ever seen. It is so immense and stunning. It gives me chills when I look at it. i have to see it in person before I die.

  • It is an awesome place.

And beneath the green grass of the hill on which the statue stands, lie the bones of at least hundreds of thousands (or more) of those who died at that vast WWII battle.

  • I love that statue.. Hope I can visit that country sometime

  • There is not a prettier statue, it is ground breaking in every way. Constructed in 1967 it is a Yevgeny Vuchetich (1908-1974)design. I've been using it as inspiration for my newest painting.

  • LOL I live in Volgograd. Lived there for 13 years. My grandparent fought for it during WW@

  • damn...your lucky man...wish I can go there someday. The Mother Motherland Statue in Volgograd(Stalingrad to me)

  • "Whosoever shall come to us with the sword shall perish by it. Upon this stood and stands the land of Russia"
