To me the Les Paul China sounded Epiphone(ish).I hold no brand loyalties.Don't give a damn with fender vs gibson or what ever.Bottom line is how the guitar sounds and how well it is put together. But I will say this...the older Les Paul do have better tone but the same can be said about most older models of any guitar companies.Equipment plays a major roll but something in the aged woods and the way they were made was just right
the problem with chinese guitars on the internet: they never send you the guitar in the picture. that's a fact. you'll get something, but it will surprise you...hopefully you'll like what you get because there's no way to return it to china. they are experts at mimicking nice looking woods using veneer over the cheapest woods. that 2 tone 'burst flamed maple top? yeah, it's 1/64" thick wood over a cheap who-knows-what packing crate wood they got in bulk. will it sound ok? maybe.
the amp ultimately makes the tone. with the pickups. the first fenders had common pine bodies. the james burton and paisley telecasters have 'cheap' basswood bodies, same as the standard squires, but cost 20 times as much. go figure? a lot has to do with one's expectations. 'any' solidbody electric guitar will sound great - if you put in good pickups and have a decent tube amp. finally, in 30 years of playing i've found that anything will sound cool thru a fender deluxe reverb amp.
my 95 epi.les paul classic suffered a broken neck the day i got it home four steps into the house (gig bag zipper failure)just had it repaired was told not to bother, but i threw out the 130 bucks on top of a 450 dollar guitar burned a bit there i think. Now I have a 50 dollar guitar with a story that plays as well or if not better than the Gibsons I have played, professional repair tuning and sound is excellent glad I did not toss it into the parts bin.THANKS FOR YOUR POST ROCK ON
Thanks for this video! Both sound great. The real deal has a little more low end but that could just be the pickups. If everyone remembers slash recorded Appetite for Destruction with a Les Paul COPY that he said was from china, it's true look it up.
in the sweet child o mine part, using the neck pickup the difference is obvious, even through my shitty laptop speakers. In real I know that this difference is huge. Im in the progress of hunting for a good gibson and I did many gibson vs any kind of les paul comparison. Many other guitar can sound hell good, but if you really hunt for that thick, fatty rich, sound, you really have to buy a gibson. My Epi for eg sounds amazing with Doug Aldrich pickups but still not a gibson sound... Too bad.
@TheEpimaniac There's nothing magical about Gibsons. Electric guitars are just hardwoods & simple electronics, it isn't rocket science. There are MANY guitars in this world made with the same or similar woods & electronics as Gibson, resulting in the same or similar results. You think no one has ever copied Gibson's design, materials & construction? Besides, most of your overall sound comes from your amp, not your guitar.
@OddTimeMan Yes I know that and I do agree with you in many points, but still on the same amp (Yngwie Malmsteen Marshall head) my 1600usd Epiphone sounds like trash compared to a Gibson 59 re-issue which is like 5 times more expensive but still- the sound is uncomparable to my epi- thats a fact. On the other hand I would not pay that price for that difference. I only and will continue to thrive for that sound... :(((
@OddTimeMan the point was the quality of the materials/wiring etc is nowhere near as good. you really do get what you pay for when it comes to guitars.
@nietorm1 That old saying just isn't true anymore. Some guitars are good, but they're WAY overpriced...you're paying mostly for the name, while some other guitars are good but very reasonably priced. High prices don't necessarily mean high quality and low prices don't necessarily mean low quality. My Gibson LP is nice but it doesn't blow me away as the pricetag suggests it should. I actually like my $600 Korean-made Dean Cadillac better. It feels/plays/sounds/looks like it cost thousands.
@OddTimeMan i get that, i had a cheap 150 warlock when i was 16 and the sustain and harmonics are better than any other high end guitar i have. But the toggles all jacked up, tone knobs dont work half the time. andi have to re adjust action at least once a week.
Not really. The discontinued Washburn Montgomery archtop smokes a Gibson ES-175 at nearly 1/6 of the price. Putting both side by side, I can't see what Gibson did to warrant the extra $3000 other than slapping their name on the headstock and saying its a custom shop model. And since I care about none of those things, Washburn wins.
@OddTimeMan So u're saying that your guitars will sound the same whether it is a Les Paul or whether it's a Fender strat if you plug them into the same amp with the same EQ? Gibson Les Paul will always sound like a Gibson Les Paul. No matter how you tweak your amp or effects on a Strat, it'll never sound like a Les Paul.
@ZickFingerboards Yes, I like my Dean Cadillac BETTER than my Gibson LP. And I've played many other Les Paul copies that feel/play/sound/look great too. You don't have to spend thousands to get a great guitar. My Gibson is nice, but it doesn't blow me away as the pricetag suggests it should. With Gibson you're mostly paying for the name.
Maybe gibson is a little bit nicer sounding but i look at it that way. Even here you can't tell big difference. Now add drums bass vocal and maybe another guitar.
well you can support your country or buy one from the enemy as i see it one day your will wounder why the fuck we speak Chinese and you can think back to when you gave money to a gook
@deoss69 I have news for you, even if you buy an American guitar, amp, car, etc., it will be loaded with Asian-made parts. USA doesn't manufacture that much anymore, we just assemble. And this is nothing new, it started way back in the 1970's. I bet half of the things you own, use & enjoy on a daily basis was made in China...including the computer you're using right now.
@OddTimeMan yeah i bet alot was but just about all of my computer was made in Indonesia not china and was hand built by me as for every thing else your prob right but one day when we have a choice between american made or Chinese just remember what i said
But how does a company expect the citizens of its home country to support its products when only few of those citizens can actually afford to buy their products? Blind patriotism only works if you can afford it, and those days are almost over. The real problem is that Gibson no longer has viable competition that they don't already own. I hope the Chinese get better with their guitar making so that will light a fire under Gibson's ass and get them pricing competitively.
Thing to think about is that the Gibson will sound even better in 5-10 years. The Ching Chang will sound the same, if not worse. The pick ups on the Gibson a not great tonally. I put SD59's in mine it sounded awsome. I'd like to hear the ching chang against a Standard or a traditional.
But all said Gibson probly won't be around in ten years, due to the fact that ppl keep buying cheaper chinky copies and your Gov keeps raiding 'em. lol!!
@stebzy This statement "the Gibson will sound even better in 5-10 years. The Ching Chang will sound the same, if not worse" is an opinion and it isn't based on any factual evidence at all.
@stebzy My Gibson LP was made in 2000, that's 12 years ago. It's sounds the same as it did when I first got it. Solid-body guitars are hardwoods & simple electronics, it isn't rocket science. There are a ton of guitars in this world made with the same or similar woods & electronics as Gibson, producing the same or similar results.
I found it sounded pretty close for the rhythm parts but the Gibson sounded much fuller and sweeter for the lead. I have an SG and an Explorer (sadly no Les Paul yet...) and I love them but truth be told a good player can make even the cheapest guitar sound good.
Good video man, I've never had the chance to compare the real vs knockoff versions before.
J3, it obviously pleased you. Wanker. If you think that sounds like I Gibson's tone, you should run back down to Guitar Center, pull one off the wall, and check again. There's no complexity or depth to it. The lower mids are gone. It has all the balls of a female fish.
The OP's ear which apparently isn't good enough to hear when he's overbending, is clearly over worked trying to pick up on the nuances of tone.
@Thumpalumpacus You're talking about subtle nuances of tone. You're going to get those differences with ALL guitars. Besides, most of your overall tone comes from your amp, not your guitar. Even inexpensive guitars sound pretty darn good through all-tube amps and nice speaker cabs. And with a pickup swap, or just a tweak of your EQ, those minor guitar differences are gone.
I love people who comment negatively on people's videos. He did a good job representing that the chibson closely resembled the gibson's tone. Nice buy, Gibson asked for this to happen when they sent epiphone's to the counterfeit Capitol of the world.
To the idiot who said " anything distorted will please someone"
I'm sure half of what you could play wouldn't even please a deaf man.
@J3rs3yd3vil Oh boy...another pimple faced teenager who will buy a fake Gibson. That's just what we need. Are you going to put a Mercedez logo on your mommy's Hyundai too?
I guess if you slather enough distortion onto something, someone will like it. There's no complexity to the tone, and no depth. It didn't help that whoever was playing had little ear for groove and was very off on his bending, but that couldn't make worse what already sounded like a kid who thinks that because it looks like a Paul, it sounds like a Paul. Shop with your ears, not your eyes.
Also, it's funny that someone plumping a Res Pawr says someone else can't afford a Gibson. Think much?
The job is made easier with good tools, but a good craftsman can make any guitar sound 'good' as long as the thing can hold tuning, has good pickups and a comfortable action you can make it sound great.
@EVERYTHINGELECTRON1C Yes, I do.....the biggest part is feeling the difference. I own several REAL Gibson guitars and I have also played a Chinese copy. The Chinese copy feels like plywood, which is exactly what it is. Besides, it is illegal to own the Chinese counterfeit guitars in the U.S.A.
Nothing can compare the original one... That the reason why they fake it... Just like other said if you are rock star and can afford the price go for original one... And if you are rock star and can't afford just go for the cheaper one...
@simplyjessie1000 A good guitar is a good guitar. It shouldn't matter where it was made or what name is on the headstock. You should buy a guitar that feels, plays, sounds, & looks good to you. Don't pay attention to the headstock. There are a million amazing guitars in this world and many of them cost LESS than the big namebrands. With the big namebrands, you're mostly paying for the name.
But this whole Chinese Vs Usa thing is just coffee talk 4 c0ckheads. With Chinese economic growth outstripping the world, guitar manufacture is just another industry they r taking over. Many big name brands have factories under licence there.
China is producing guitars now that no one can beat 4 value. No one! The labour is so cheap for starters. Factory set up costs are way cheaper.
Only a fool or a blind patriot would pay big money for name brand guitars these days.
@wxyzxdll Everyone needs to get this through their thick heads. THE CHINESE GUITARS THAT SAY GIBSON ON THE HEADSTOCK ARE COUNTERFEIT AND ILLEGAL TO SELL OR PURCHASE. IF YOU BUY ONE OF THESE PIECES OF SHIT, YOU ARE NOT ONLY A POSEUR BUT YOU ARE BREAKING THE LAW.
@murfdog19 And you need to get it thru your thick head - I wasnt talking about counterfeiters ok?
Im talking about reputable Chinese factories. The stuff they are making would cost you triple or more the money if they made it in USA. Check out an Agile some time.....just to get yourself clued up.
@wxyzxdll My comment wasn't directed at you, I hit the wrong reply button.
Anyway, there is no such thing as "good tone for the money." There is good tone and bad tone. I have played professionally for 15 years, and I've played MANY guitars including an Agile or two. The only cheap guitar I've ever played that has held its own with a real U.S.A. guitar is the Squier Classic Vibe Strat. I'm not just talking tone, but feel and durability as well. The cheap guitars will not last 50 years.
@wxyzxdll I own a $3,000 Gibson guitar because I can afford to, and I want to know my guitar is made of top notch materials and craftmanship, not cheap Chinese plywood. There is a reason that pro musicians use pro gear, and you won't see a real guitarist with a Chinese guitar onstage. It's uninformed kids like you that are destroying the modern guitar player. It makes me sick!! But, we'll talk again in 5 years when your Chinese guitars are falling apart, and mine are aging like fine wine!
@murfdog19 No one gives a fk what you can afford or cant. I could afford 20 Gibsons - so what? Im smarter than you with money so I'll never buy one..
u think Chinese guitars generally r made of plywood & it shows how ignorant foolish & steeped in old world bullshit u r. Btw, some plywood guitars sound great - but dont let facts get in the way!
Most musicians buy what marketing tells them -.Its not an informed choice. Pro musicians often play free gear that is sponsored to them.
@murfdog19 Its always the same - the wank factor "Oh I got a Gibson" "they are the best". Well they aint. You got done like the loser you are.
Even low end Chinese guitars from reputable factories dont fall apart.
the Epi is clearly a good copy of the Gibson. Should be its made by Gibson! Did u know Gibson purpose built the Epiphone plant in China? Did u know Gibson bought Epiphone in 1957?
Kid? I been playing 35 yrs. So shut the fk up & spout yr clueless drivel elsewhere.Moron
@wxyzxdll Hahaha....you show your ignorance more and more in every post. Go practice on your China guitar and Line 6 amp and dream of the day you own some real gear. I'll be on stage playing my Gibson and getting pussy!
@murfdog19 no, im smart. You're the ignorant fool Paying $2000+ extra for a Gibson so you can wank yourself like you're something important.
And what has getting pussy got to do with this thread? Again we see what a moron you are - trying to make out like you're some big musician, and now some sex god, when all you are is a silly little clueless know-nothing youtube troll living in the 70s who is a slave to marketing.
@murfdog19 Hmm, I'm wondering why you keep saying that the Chinese fakes are made of "cheap plywood." Are you just assuming? There are a ton of videos, pics, and blogs on the fakes and I have yet to hear of a plywood one. My friend has 2 and they're both very well-made with solid woods. Please provide evidence that the fakes are plywood. Thanks.
@OddTimeMan I tried to post a link to the page where a Chinese guitar was stripped, but it won't let me post it. Do a Google image search for "Chinese Les Paul Veneer" and you should find the pics of a stripped China Les Paul. It's on the metro amp forum.
@wxyzxdll I viewed your youtube page and I can see that you are nothing but a troll with nothing positive to say to anyone. It seems you jump from topic to topic and insult everyone. You are the very definition of a TROLL!!
@murfdog19 whatever you think,. it doesnt invalidate anything Ive said about your own narcissistic view of yourself as an Elmer Fudd level wock n woll star, who has a misguided view about a subject he knows nothing about - namely guitars! Loser.
@murfdog19 So guitars with figured maple veneers are plywood? You need to look-up what plywood really is. The Chinese fakes have figured maple veneers over solid hardwoods...just like many popular guitar brands.
@OddTimeMan Are you serious??? Did you see the pictures? The wood used to build these guitars are the same as you'd get in a 2x4 from Home Depot. But, if that's what floats your boat, more power to you. I want quality for myself though.
@murfdog19 Ok wait, FIRST you said that the fakes are made of PLYWOOD, and NOW you're saying they're made of PINE?! 2x4's are pine, by the way. There is absolutely NO evidence that I can find anywhere on the Internet to support your pine theory. Or are you going to switch back to the plywood theory? I don't think you know what wood is!
@OddTimeMan Okay kid...plywood....2x4...I don't want any of them on my guitars. But, whatever. When you can afford a real guitar you will understand. Don't knock expensive guitars because you can't afford them.
@murfdog19 Wow, so many things wrong with your post. "Kid"? I'm 48 yrs. old and I've been playing/building guitars & speaker cabs since the late 70's. And you say I can't afford a "real" or "expensive" guitar? I currently have a small collection of guitars including a Gibson LP. And I had MANY guitars over the last few decades. So please don't assume, it's really sad.
@murfdog19 Wow, if you think I'm a kid then you must not be very bright. It's fairly easy to tell when you're dealing with a kid on the Internet based on their grammar, spelling, and immature dialog.
@murfdog19 You said "plywood....2x4...I don't want any of them on my guitars" well you don't need to worry because you'll get neither with these fakes. They are solid hardwoods like Asian mahogany, maple, and I've seen some that are alder or basswood...ALL good tonewoods. Until you show us evidence that some are made of plywood or pine, you're just flapping your gums.
@murfdog19 Hey dip-shit,,, I have been playing guitars for over 35 years and have many guitars,, some very dollar ones and some cheap ones, Gibsons ,,Fenders,, Guilds,, Taylors, and knock offs of all of em. I have never seen a plywood knock off of a Gibson. Pine would not have any sustain even with a real ebony fret board. Bad news travels fast when it comes to someone trying to sell a plywood guitar so I dont see it happening.
@bedrockamp2 Hahahahahaha....I can't believe how many morons we have here. I guess I should expect that from a Gibson knockoff video though. You sir, are a total idiot.
@murfdog19 You dont know me. Ive always shunned fools like u all my life. The music industry is like the car industry - full of stupid males who dont understand simply physics - their only theory is bigger, faster, most expensive is always best.
U r one of those simpletons. U try to give yrself weight here by shooting off yr mouth about what a superhero musician you are and the pussy you are getting.
U dont even know the difference between pine & plywood. U r OWNED & BURIED!
@murfdog19 You dont call plywood pine. Got it? Layers of pine is called plywood, or veneer, solid pine is called pine. Got it? How much more simple can it be for an idiot like you to understand? turd_dog19 was OWNED YET AGAIN !!!!!!! DUH!!!!!!
@murfdog19 "you're an idiot...you're an idiot"....talk about a scratched record! Cant you think up anything orignal? If your guitar playing is as repetitive and unoriginal as your lame comebacks here, you must be a helluva shithouse player!!
@wxyzxdll Yes, I am a superhero musician. I played the Ravens vs. Texans game yesterday in front of a thousand people.....where did you play yesterday??? NOWHERE????......oh my.
@murfdog19 What an utterly childish comment to make. I feel sorry for you, loser. All your comments here show what a complete narcissistic BORING RETARD you are.
@wxyzxdll My comment wasn't directed at you, I hit the wrong reply button.
Anyway, there is no such thing as "good tone for the money." There is good tone and bad tone. I have played professionally for 15 years, and I've played MANY guitars including an Agile or two. @murfdog19 Ive played 2 more than 1000 people. Being a musician doesnt make u an expert on guitars.
Epiphone plant was built as a result of marketing. Gibson would love to make all their guitars cheaply there, but know people wont buy Chinese made Gibsons for $3000+. Why? Cos retards like you want to keep dreaming that expensive USA made stuff is superior. Bullshit!
A guitar is just wood, glue, machining , etc AND the care taken to construct it.
I reckon the Chinese one sounded better too. A guy sold me an ES335 Chinese replica for $300 in the carpark of the pub I was playing one day and expected me to play it as is. It hadn't been set up, the strings were rusty and the nut slots were way too high, but with the crowd urging me on I sucked it up and played the thing within an inch of its life! It sounded great. Now the Chinese will work for a bowl of rice a day but if they can make them for $300 what's Gibson's problem? $3000? No way!
who else knew that appetite for destruction album slash recorded with a chinese copy lp. i know that and i think its funny that now gibson and dpi are making millions on the slash model and he didn't even play one on the fucking album..... all guitars are 300$ anything after the your paying for a headstock. ps i own 3 real gibson guitars
@ICECOLDCRAZY1 Slash did not use a Chinese Gibson, it was a hand-made Gibson replica built by an American luthier. Slash actually has more than one Gibson replica built by 2 different luthiers.
I'm glad china is making cheaper guitars, it's very arrogant to sell a stupid gibson for tens of thousands of dollars cause people are too hung up with the trade mark name.
if it sounds and feels good, who cares anyway? that's just my view.
If ur looking for a guitar to play, and sound great then go with the Chinese one, it's cheaper and just as good. If u r a fancy collector then get the real thing I guess.
Anyone or country that makes fake Gibsons should be shot on site! I am a real Gibson owner and I take pride in what I play, that is like owning a fake Harley, it will not ride the same!
@MrWadestar But a gibson loses to ESP anyday!!!! im just saying and take it how you want but my opinion is proved to be 100% correct but however the only gibson i will play is a Explorer
@MrWadestar People just don't get it. It's funny how everyone wants to bash Gibson, but they are all DYING to get their hands on a $300 plywood counterfeit.
hey guys does the guitar of tradetang stays in tune well with its stock hardware and tuners, i'm planning only to replace pickups and electronics and would cost less than an epi standard here in europe....
This vid shows that a good guitar player can take any guitar and make any equipment sound at its best. I`m not a good gutiar player (just powerchords and simple solos) but I know what it is to take a cheap guitar and plug it into a cheap amp, trying to make it sound great, I was working in a guitarstore and from that I learned a simple truth - the guitar should stay in tune + the neck must feel comfortable in hands (no cutting feeling from frets)=playability, everything else is optional.
@ebalvsehvrot I agree. There are many excellent guitars out there in the $400-$800 range...you don't need to spend thousands. But a good all-tube amp & a nice speaker cab will make a huge difference in your overall tone.
@OddTimeMan yep, you`re right man. In this vid a good amp (as a final gear in guitar sound section) is a great advantage. I mean he could plug in any guitar and get really good tone.
@ebalvsehvrot what most guitarist don't understand is 90% of your tone comes from your fingers and you're stuck with it. Part of that is due to your technique and you can change that but alot is just there and you can't change it
@OddTimeMan no actually not really. Yes they have high end gear but If you or me played through let say Slash's rig (like if he gave us the guitar and everything) I'll still sound like me, you will still sound like you, and slash will still sound like slash. We would sound LIKE slash but only slash sounds like slash. Our tone is like a fingerprint (literally) everyone will sound like themselves not matter what high quality gear you have. Obviously this assumes you play the same exact thing
@urworstnightmare22 Skill comes from the player, tone comes from the gear. If Slash played a Telecaster through a Fender Twin amp, he would no longer have that signature Slash sound.
Hey man i want to order one gibson les paul standard china like you use in your video but I dont know how reliable website can i order it can you tell me something ? waiting your ansewer..
@stratdem no they dont blow, ur just mad cause the chinese are getting better at making GOOD instruments and Gibson is dumb enough to have TAUGHT the chinese how to do it
@stratdem The fact that you think all other guitars blow tells me you know nothing about guitars. Carlos Santana played a Yamaha SG copy for many years, Slash played a Gibson LP replica, Rick Nielsen plays a Hamer Explorer copy. There are a million Gibson style guitars that rock like Gretch, Hagstom, PRS, Tokai, Orville, Burny, Edwards, Greco, ESP, Dean, Carvin, and many more.

nietorm1 1 month ago
@nietorm1 I don't understand your post. They didn't make Chinese Les Paul copies in 1959 as far as I know.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago
@OddTimeMan the point was the quality of the materials/wiring etc is nowhere near as good. you really do get what you pay for when it comes to guitars.
nietorm1 1 month ago
@nietorm1 That old saying just isn't true anymore. Some guitars are good, but they're WAY overpriced...you're paying mostly for the name, while some other guitars are good but very reasonably priced. High prices don't necessarily mean high quality and low prices don't necessarily mean low quality. My Gibson LP is nice but it doesn't blow me away as the pricetag suggests it should. I actually like my $600 Korean-made Dean Cadillac better. It feels/plays/sounds/looks like it cost thousands.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago
@OddTimeMan i get that, i had a cheap 150 warlock when i was 16 and the sustain and harmonics are better than any other high end guitar i have. But the toggles all jacked up, tone knobs dont work half the time. andi have to re adjust action at least once a week.
nietorm1 1 month ago
@nietorm1
Broyale26 3 weeks ago

If you want to hear the difference don't use distorsion. Even a ceapo guitar wil sound the same.

Maybe gibson is a little bit nicer sounding but i look at it that way. Even here you can't tell big difference. Now add drums bass vocal and maybe another guitar.

deoss69 1 month ago
@deoss69 I have news for you, even if you buy an American guitar, amp, car, etc., it will be loaded with Asian-made parts. USA doesn't manufacture that much anymore, we just assemble. And this is nothing new, it started way back in the 1970's. I bet half of the things you own, use & enjoy on a daily basis was made in China...including the computer you're using right now.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago
@OddTimeMan yeah i bet alot was but just about all of my computer was made in Indonesia not china and was hand built by me as for every thing else your prob right but one day when we have a choice between american made or Chinese just remember what i said
deoss69 1 month ago
@deoss69

@Broyale26 yes it is sad that we seem to find our selves in this situation that our companies are greedy money hungry power thirsty bitches

But all said Gibson probly won't be around in ten years, due to the fact that ppl keep buying cheaper chinky copies and your Gov keeps raiding 'em. lol!!
stebzy 1 month ago
@stebzy This statement "the Gibson will sound even better in 5-10 years. The Ching Chang will sound the same, if not worse" is an opinion and it isn't based on any factual evidence at all.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago
@stebzy My Gibson LP was made in 2000, that's 12 years ago. It's sounds the same as it did when I first got it. Solid-body guitars are hardwoods & simple electronics, it isn't rocket science. There are a ton of guitars in this world made with the same or similar woods & electronics as Gibson, producing the same or similar results.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago

I found it sounded pretty close for the rhythm parts but the Gibson sounded much fuller and sweeter for the lead. I have an SG and an Explorer (sadly no Les Paul yet...) and I love them but truth be told a good player can make even the cheapest guitar sound good.

Thumpalumpacus 1 month ago
J3, it obviously pleased you. Wanker. If you think that sounds like I Gibson's tone, you should run back down to Guitar Center, pull one off the wall, and check again. There's no complexity or depth to it. The lower mids are gone. It has all the balls of a female fish.
The OP's ear which apparently isn't good enough to hear when he's overbending, is clearly over worked trying to pick up on the nuances of tone.
2:48 worth of fail.
Thumpalumpacus 1 month ago
@Thumpalumpacus You're talking about subtle nuances of tone. You're going to get those differences with ALL guitars. Besides, most of your overall tone comes from your amp, not your guitar. Even inexpensive guitars sound pretty darn good through all-tube amps and nice speaker cabs. And with a pickup swap, or just a tweak of your EQ, those minor guitar differences are gone.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago
I love people who comment negatively on people's videos. He did a good job representing that the chibson closely resembled the gibson's tone. Nice buy, Gibson asked for this to happen when they sent epiphone's to the counterfeit Capitol of the world.
To the idiot who said " anything distorted will please someone"
I'm sure half of what you could play wouldn't even please a deaf man.

wxyzxdll 1 month ago
I guess if you slather enough distortion onto something, someone will like it. There's no complexity to the tone, and no depth. It didn't help that whoever was playing had little ear for groove and was very off on his bending, but that couldn't make worse what already sounded like a kid who thinks that because it looks like a Paul, it sounds like a Paul. Shop with your ears, not your eyes.
Also, it's funny that someone plumping a Res Pawr says someone else can't afford a Gibson. Think much?

simplyjessie1000 2 months ago

Only a fool or a blind patriot would pay big money for name brand guitars these days.

wxyzxdll 1 month ago
@wxyzxdll My comment wasn't directed at you, I hit the wrong reply button.
Anyway, there is no such thing as "good tone for the money." There is good tone and bad tone. I have played professionally for 15 years, and I've played MANY guitars including an Agile or two. The only cheap guitar I've ever played that has held its own with a real U.S.A. guitar is the Squier Classic Vibe Strat. I'm not just talking tone, but feel and durability as well. The cheap guitars will not last 50 years.
murfdog19 1 month ago
@murfdog19 Playing professionally for 15 years means nothing in regard to knowledge of guitar construction techniques.
Cheap guitars will not last 50 years? lol you have no clue. There are millions in the world that have.
You think a "real USA guitar" is some sort of standard but it only shows you are out of step with modern times.
U sound like a typical Gibson fool - paid $3000+ for a wildly overpriced guitar. And you want to promulgate the myth to protect your "investment".
wxyzxdll 1 month ago
@wxyzxdll I own a $3,000 Gibson guitar because I can afford to, and I want to know my guitar is made of top notch materials and craftmanship, not cheap Chinese plywood. There is a reason that pro musicians use pro gear, and you won't see a real guitarist with a Chinese guitar onstage. It's uninformed kids like you that are destroying the modern guitar player. It makes me sick!! But, we'll talk again in 5 years when your Chinese guitars are falling apart, and mine are aging like fine wine!

@murfdog19 So guitars with figured maple veneers are plywood? You need to look-up what plywood really is. The Chinese fakes have figured maple veneers over solid hardwoods...just like many popular guitar brands.
OddTimeMan 1 month ago
@OddTimeMan Are you serious??? Did you see the pictures? The wood used to build these guitars are the same as you'd get in a 2x4 from Home Depot. But, if that's what floats your boat, more power to you. I want quality for myself though.
murfdog19 1 month ago
@murfdog19 Ok wait, FIRST you said that the fakes are made of PLYWOOD, and NOW you're saying they're made of PINE?! 2x4's are pine, by the way. OddTimeMan 1 month ago

This vid shows that a good guitar player can take any guitar and make any equipment sound at its best. I`m not a good gutiar player (just powerchords and simple solos) but I know what it is to take a cheap guitar and plug it into a cheap amp, trying to make it sound great, I was working in a guitarstore and from that I learned a simple truth - the guitar should stay in tune + the neck must feel comfortable in hands (no cutting feeling from frets)=playability, everything else is optional.
ebalvsehvrot 3 months ago
@ebalvsehvrot I agree. There are many excellent guitars out there in the $400-$800 range...you don't need to spend thousands. But a good all-tube amp & a nice speaker cab will make a huge difference in your overall tone.
OddTimeMan 3 months ago
@OddTimeMan yep, you`re right man. In this vid a good amp (as a final gear in guitar sound section) is a great advantage. I mean he could plug in any guitar and get really good tone.
ebalvsehvrot 3 months ago
@ebalvsehvrot what most guitarist don't understand is 90% of your tone comes from your fingers and you're stuck with it. Part of that is due to your technique and you can change that but alot is just there and you can't change it
urworstnightmare22 3 months ago
@urworstnightmare22 You're confusing skill with tone. There's a good reason why pro's use high-end gear and all-tube amps...they have the best tone.
OddTimeMan 3 months ago
@OddTimeMan no actually not really. Yes they have high end gear but If you or me played through let say Slash's rig (like if he gave us the guitar and everything) I'll still sound like me, you will still sound like you, and slash will still sound like slash. We would sound LIKE slash but only slash sounds like slash. Our tone is like a fingerprint (literally) everyone will sound like themselves not matter what high quality gear you have. Obviously this assumes you play the same exact thing
urworstnightmare22 3 months ago
@urworstnightmare22 Skill comes from the player, tone comes from the gear. If Slash played a Telecaster through a Fender Twin amp, he would no longer have that signature Slash sound.

Theres only two companys in the world that make REAL ENDORSED Les Pauls and Sg's they are Gibson Usa And Epiphone PERIOD! All others BLOW!

@stratdem no they dont blow, ur just mad cause the chinese are getting better at making GOOD instruments and Gibson is dumb enough to have TAUGHT the chinese how to do it
its all Gibson's fault really

@stratdem The fact that you think all other guitars blow tells me you know nothing about guitars. Carlos Santana played a Yamaha SG copy for many years, Slash played a Gibson LP replica, Rick Nielsen plays a Hamer Explorer copy. There are a million Gibson style guitars that rock like Gretch, Hagstom, PRS, Tokai, Orville, Burny, Edwards, Greco, ESP, Dean, Carvin, and many more.
