When I saw Avenue Q back in 2008 in Chicago, the show stopped because of "technical difficulties." Actually the girl playing Kate Monster just got a nose bleed during "Mix Tape."
@SlayerOfTheVampyre probably because they were happy that they actually found OUT what was going on instead of sitting for five minutes thinking "what is taking so LONG?!"
@SlayerOfTheVampyre someone was too busy "Taking their time" during the interval and some of the audience needed to make another trip due to that fact haha
@SlayerOfTheVampyre no they clap to show support for the technical operators that are having the problems its very stressful, i should know ive been working in theatre for 6 years now, it just shows that the audience are not annoyed with you and are patient to wait for the show, it is very hard putting on a show like this, there will be things going wrong, and once they do the operator always just the abuse for it, when often it is out of their control
Just so everybody knows, the whole purpose of having preview performances is to see how the show works in front of an audience while still being able to stop and fix things backstage. Not only should the audience not be dissapointed, but the audience should expect this. This is what previews are for.
Usually the techical difficulties in a common broadway show are problems with the lights, speakers, and/or microphones. It could be any of those. I should know. I was in a musical that was aving problems with the microphones.
hmm...then Im not sure then..so many rumours going around, I wouldve thought theyd do a sound check before the first show...but then again, look at this years Tony Awards xD
You mean in the West End? Well, the theatre they're in (Noel Coward) is owned by Cameron Mackintosh, and he's trying to do a revamp of all the theatres he owns in London (he's finished the Prince of Wales, and it's FANTASTIC).
So, don't worry, I'm sure it'll soon have wheel chair access.
ooh, i've never seen a show where that has hapened before. Im always hearing about it though. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's car in the west end broke down loads of times.
This sort of thing always happens during previews! Billy Elliot had lighting issues, Wicked had bubble issues, Joseph had a problem with the rotating stage ... that's theatre!
Well yeah, that's how I found out it was him who had his foot crushed. I saw it the Thursday matinee before it closed and, whilst waiting for autographs, I asked a random member of the cast if it was true someone had got their leg trapped, and he said "Yeah, me." Of course, I was all "Omg, did it hurt?" and he just said "Nahh." XD
Obviously it did, he had to go to hospital, but he was well enough to carry on with LotR for another year.
This is what makes live theatre such a unique and fun experience. Anything can happen.

No, but it's really unprofessional. Even though it is live performance, I'd be rather annoyed they'd make me wait to see the show.
ThunderousBuns 2 years ago
Technical difficulties, as in beyond their control.
slovely08 2 years ago 12
yeah, and besides- it was a preview. audiences buy their tickets knowing that something might go wrong.
if it was during the run, it would be a different story....
Elphabaevil123 2 years ago 13
exactly it wasnt opening... most people know and accept that buying tickest to a "preview" is as good as buy tickets to a dress rehearsal"
and they picked a good time to stop, it didnt affect the story line or anything

The Noel Coward theatre has street level access to the Royal Circle with no stairs whatsoever. Just make sure you go in the Royal Circle.
