i used to like working on out of town the set was just a shed and jack would voice over his films it was film back then and at the end roll the roller caption machine and the southern ident. happy days and i miss them.
Fantastic, takes me back, I would,nt miss a programme when i was a nipper, It made me want to work outside, Hense I have worked for the forestry commition for the past 40yrs and enjoyed every day, ( WELL MAYBE NOT THE WINTER MORNINGS) So relaxing when you listen to him, Thankyou very very much
You know there are also a few JH programmes I've also posted on Vimeo - some longer ones from 'Old Country' and even an 'Out of Town'. Google Vimeo and Search or try:

Thanks so much for this. Nothing better for showing the age range these broadcasts attracted. I first knew my stepfather when I was 6 and he was still entertaining me whenever I visited up to his death in 1994, 46 years later.
What a delight to hear that mellow and authoritative voice once again. Jack Hargreaves was one of my absolute favourites when I was a boy. He was so at ease with the television camera that you really felt he was talking directly to you. His little reminisces were rich with history and humanity.
I'm so delighted by these comments. My stepfather would have replied. His files looked after by his wife Isobel were packed with letters from viewers and the date of his replies. He learned a lot from his viewers and they would often give him ideas for programmes. I have tried where possible to unite people who appeared in them with CDs of the programme in question, when they have approached me, initially via comments here.
i grew up with this guy he gave me the love of the countryside i have today through programs like how out of town and the old country sadly a countryside that no longer exists a true gent
Excellent - I bought one of Jack Hargreaves books a year ago (early autobiog) - I loved the Out of Town programs so much - some caught my imagination more than others - and this is the first time I have thought to search for him on YouTube - and you have uploaded this! Thanks for the time and effort - an amazing history.
I've also been posting some episodes on Vimeo. The essence of Out of Town and its successor Old Country was documenting what my stepfather knew would not exist much longer, or what had already passed like farming without tractors.
I used to look forward to Jack's show every Sunday after dinner before bath time if memory serves. I moved to the USA in 1983 and so Jack Hargreaves was pushed to the back of my memory, but thanks to You Tube here I am enjoying the sound of his voice and the theme music again. Right, I'm off for my bath.
I think Jack symbolised the country I loved, but no longer exists.
