  • It's PRISON OF LOVE....... nor Prisoner.

  • Elevator Blooz.

    Pass.

  • This is Prisoner of Love... not P T Love.

  • @hiawathaangeleyes ok ty :)

  • @hiawathaangeleyes Actually, it's 'Prison of Love,' as in 'locked in this prison of love' :>

  • @hiawathaangeleyes Actually, it's 'Prison of Love,' as in 'locked in this prison of love' :>

('Prisoner of Love' is a James Brown recording however, and possibly several other musicians.)

  • Hi there not to be judgmental of anyone here i speak universally, but its a shame that very skilled individuals hide behind the great wall of whats been done already, and paint it up to be greater than it truly is. Yes its a spin on an old form and is skilled or just takes most of your time and life to get so "good" I personally believe that this sort of thing is only for people who enjoy themselves too much Phrasing, tone, chording just makes my spine shiver its not a natural reaction to music

  • @hazdrums1989

I thought dance movements were also a natural reaction to some music.

Check out his Rumba Blues it has perfect Rumba timing .

  • @hazdrums1989 You are forgetting that anything is a natural reaction to music. Trees and grass don't play music. People do. Its a man-made craft forged from the inherent qualities of the universe and we can do whatever the hell we want with it. Thats your opinion, fine, but at the end of the day you like it or you don't. There are no rules, no genres, no good or bad. Its just a bunch of noise, whether its Mozart or Master P its all in taste and nothing else.

  • a living legend

  • Anyone that speaks about Robben Ford's work in anything but glowing terms must have been kicked out of his band of something and is teed off. Robben is a virtuoso plain and simple. I myself am a pro blues player (performing) and watching Ford and listening to his chording and note playing tells me that I'm right where I belong... in the blues bar circuit. Ford is a master.

  • @Zerro450

Except playing the Blues is easy.

When Robben Ford comes up with stuff like Steve Vai I'll be impressed

  • @glenclosed man r u serious?? Vai?? He is just a "stunt guitarist" who thinks he's God's gift to the guitar. Maybe you should hear guys like Brett Garsed, Shawn Lane, T J Helmerich, Greg Howe and Guthrie Govan to know whats impressive. Robben Ford is a Master...end of!

  • @rapidtranq Stunt Guitarist! Man Stevie is a wizard.

The man is a true genius, far better than anyone you mentiuoned

  • @glenclosed Listen how Vai is playing the blues... eg. on G3 Live. Than you will notice that blues is not easy.

  • @glenclosed

When Steve Vai plays as musically as Robben always does, I'll be impressed.

  • love this guy!! he is awesome...period..end of discussion...don't fucking rate him or compare...just enjoy what he does...I know I do!

  • @eddio333 - couldn´t agree more!

  • Thanx to my friend Matt S. for turning me on to Robben Ford. He is one of the most unique players I've ever heard. Nice phrasing! 'Talk to Your Daughter"

  • The old dogs still rule the yard

  • The last part of this video is a second song but there is only part of it and it is great ! Anyone have the rest?

  • Prison of Love.....is in the first album of the blue line. 1992

  • Robben plays a variety of guitars and always has some seeet tone.

  • ya dont think that bonamassa has borrowed a few licks from Robin do ya?? Got the rest from Eric Johnson...LOL I still think Joe is great though...

  • joe is great when he isnt being eric johnson, which is hardly ever.

  • I think he did this tune on 'Live at the Blueline' with Jimmy witherspoon.

    Incredible guitar work as usual.

  • Actually, it IS on an album

  • Friggin' incredible. Why didn't they put this on an album. Unbelieveable track, sound and Robben marches through amazing changes throughout the tune. Seems to be like second nature to him.

  • The best.....

  • He is definitely the best guitar player for me.Lot of emotion in the playback

  • Robben is calm, cool and comfortable. He really knows the neck well.

  • Robben Ford is great player, he tries to shake a bit that old blues pentatonic licks and make something new.

  • Robben Ford is a real life guitar hero. Stop hating. You're watching one of the greats.

  • My grandad told me about this guy, and he added me on youtube!

  • Is there any way to fix this freak'in streamin which stops every few seconds?

This is a great tune with lousy technology.

  • I think this is inspiring playing - I mean, does it make you feel like giving up or getting out there and playing...for me definitely the latter - incidentally, Robben is giving a masterclass for Guitar Getaways in London on 8th November. Please check our website for more details.

  • The guitar was a Fender Robben Ford Signature which is now the Fender Squire. The ones today are Neck through body arch top solid body with duncan pickups.

  • What guitar is he using there? Awesome playing and tone, anyone who thinks thats crap needs to get off the drugs and stop listening to Linkin Park and Good Charlotte!

  • This is a Fender custom shop Robben Ford guitar. There is also a cheaper model, the Squier Esprit. Robben left Fender mark, now he uses Taku Sakashta Noupaul model.

  • @ScottTePaa fender 'esprit'. fender later did a signature model based on the esprit. ran out in the early 00's i guess...

  • Comment removed

  • I remember when Robbin played at the Powerstation in Auckland New Zealand back in the 90s .Yeah, hate to say it but it was a boring concert .He was dressed up all flash and everything, but he didn't seem to have any inspiration ,just going though the motions .Technically it was ok though. He must have been tired from touring or just having an off night.

  • What!? I think he sounds brilliant. Thank you Robben.

  • I actually agree with the DrugsMurder guy, but only in very basic principle.

Robben sounds totally uninspired and completely boring in this particular video, but most of his fans have seen him play enough to know that he does often have good ideas. It's difficult to create a gem each time you sit down to write.

  • Just look at this guy's money sex drugs and murder, what piece of crap person, Robben Ford is probably one of the best blues guitarists of this generation, u do not know the definition of feel and soul!

  • How is the tone too heavy? It's blues - I'd rather a heavy tone than a weak thin limp noodle sound. Besides, if there was too much distortion the high notes on the chording would wash out in noise. I think it's a nice balance.

  • Have your ears flushed...

  • dead dreams??? the dude played with miles davis...nuff said

  • excelent...great performance. Fantastic blues

  • I like everything about Robben Ford - his hair, his guitar, his licks, his style - everything! :)

  • this is pure, Great!

  • "feel and soul's worst enemy"... ? So THAT'S why Joni Mitchel hired him, eh. Weren't you available ? Rant on, sad man.

  • Your perceptions have been warped by hanging out in guitar center.

  • haha wow you are an idiot

  • you are talking that this guy don't have feeling for music?

  • My last post was a reply to some of the negative comments made about Mr Ford , poster MoneySexDrugsMurder's comment in particular ... I would love to hear these guys post some videos of their talents . Robben Ford is a MONSTER talent !!!

  • then is ok dude ;)

    cheers

  • Shows how much you know....

  • Blues müziği bu kadar sade ve güçlü ifade edebilen kaç tane müzisyan vardır acaba?

  • ehi men: who knows the effects Robben Ford is using in that video??

  • Effects? He don't need no stinking effects!

Seriously, I've seen him play this tune a few times. He uses a volume pedal only(plus his magic fingers!). There's obviously a wah on the second tune.

  • actually i was at this gig and u are wrong. I cant remember all his rid by heart but there was a tube screamer and RV- 5, the idiot who wrote the last message was at least right about the volume pedal.

  • Idiot? Why so tense? What I stated was exactly as I observed. At the performances I saw, he only used a volume pedal and wah. Rid? Do you mean rig? No more coffee for you!

  • Sorry, Yeah i meant rig. Please dont hate me.

  • Dont know, but thats one sick ass wah. That is badass.

  • as xtlovex said being able to play jazz means u r a good musician i dont listen to jazz as much as blues but i like players like mr.ford whom use a lot of jazz phrasing.i´ve seen him live and he is tha master

  • Just because you can play jazz doesnt nessarily mean you are good. Its just the way Robben mixes them that makes him what he is. An absolute legend. I mean this in a good way. No offense.

  • anyone who can play Jazz the right way is good. But, yes Robben is awesome and a true legend.

  • Great singing, soloing and performance from Mr. Ford.

Also nice to see that a lot of people in here agree on who are the real jazz/blues-masters :-)

  • This is where it's at. Frickin' great playing.

  • His soloing from 02:20 to 03:20 was awesome. 5 stars.

  • All Eric Clapton followers who never heard Robben Ford make me laugh. They all think Clapton is the best blues player of all times. Ask them if they ever heard Stevie Ray... and they'll go, Stevie who?

  • agree, heard about the first time clapton heard vaughan live? he had to left the thatre, he said he couldn't stay in his seat, and he was bothering everyone lol

  • Not only that, Robben can spout out jazz lines at will whenever he wants...

  • Agree! SRV is the man! also Robben!

  • Actually I prefer clapton to both SRV and Ford, and I knew about SRV first...as well as BB and Albert King and several others, though admittedly not Ford. Not to knock them, just a style thing. It's not like any of them make bad music.

Also, being able to play Jazz doesn't mean you're a good musician.

  • Actually, being able to play Jazz usually means your a very good musician. Jazz players usually know their shit when it comes to theory and reading, which equals a good musician.

  • It can mean a very technically good musician. Music is more about emotion than chops, and while the two are not exclusive a LOT of jazz forsakes emotion for chops.

Also, the fact that someone knows the "rules" doesn't matter if the aim of their musical projects is to break them just for the sake of breaking them.

  • You can't express the emotion if you dont have the chops.

  • Having some measure of chops is necessary, not sufficient. And don't get me started on how many "mistakes" some very good guitarists make.

  • This stuff goes right to my backbone.

Makes me stand up again and go on.

When there is such a power out there, some questions are already answered ...

    Best wishes to the bluesfamily.

  • Now, Everything is possible...

  • excelent...great performance. Fantastic blues

  • robben ford is keeping the blues guitar tradition alive and kicking.. more power to you

  • Great song!

I like the comment about him being like Stevie & Eric.

Hmmm. Both are Texans. Imagine that... ;-)

Robben must have some Texan in him.

  • Dig this: all were greatly influenced by Freddie King, a Texan born in Gilmer. ALL "borrowed"his unique licks especially Clapton. Check out Freddie King videos on YouTube.

  • robben ford is a mix between SRV and Eric Johnson. very interesting player.

  • quit fukken comparin these axemen will ya. just take'em fer what they are.GREAT!!!!

  • Yes sir. It ain't about competition it's about the groove.

  • i thinK there comments come from ppl who hear common timing and technique, notes whatever..that's why they say oh it's a mix of.. but to be honest, we all have examples, musicians we liKe to hear and learn from and that's normal. otherwise there would be any good player if not so FAST!

  • Yeah there is just so many talented people out there anybody would be limiting themselves to say,"that person is THE BEST". It all depends on who is listening. People just want to express themselves so much and are limited in their vocabulary I guess.

  • that's what i mean....

  • Yo' Boogie... Baker of Baker Guitars was running the Robben Ford custom production @ Fender. To say that Baker is "intimate" w/ RF is an understatement.

Fender nowadays sucks so bad - they couldn't possibly design and produce a guitar of that caliber on their on.

    Peace...

    UG

  • You may not believe this, but I met Ford when i was 7 or 8. He gave me an autograph, took a photo, and gave me his guitar pick! I think my dad has the pick

  • jimi who?

  • excellent two

  • WHERE IS NADYA PUPPING ? FROM DEN- HAAG

  • what guitar is that? Gibson or Fender - flame?

  • Its a Baker. Kinda looks like his old fender esprit signatures, but these are made of the classy mahogney/maple-combination.

I don't know if he's still endorsing this guitar, but he did/does have a signature model with Baker.

  • This isn't a baker, that one has another cutaway. This is his Fender sig.

  • sorry, my bad...

  • Yeah I will see him today:) at half 21:30 :D

  • his voice is better than 90% of the guys out there today... where's your record deal?

  • No kidding :-). I saw him last year he was awesome. He has plenty of instructional stuff out for you guys wanting to study it. Great video!

  • Thanks for posting this!! This vid makes me want to go play right now -- talk about inspirational! Anyone know what guitar he's playing here? Is that the Baker RF model?

  • He plays a Fender Esprit....pronounced Espree. Do a search and youi can get lots of info on them. No longer made. Great sound.

  • It might be the RF-not sure. But Ed Roman bought Baker Guitars, and most of the ones I have seen are the B-1. Go to Ed Roman Guitars and I'm sure they can tell you. I saw Ford last year, and he was playing a Les Paul.

  • He is playing a Fender Esprit Robben Ford model . This was filmed in 2001 , he din't start using the Baker guitar till after that . Also his Baker guitar is different colour to this.

  • 'Prison of Love'...It's on the <Robben Ford & the Blue Line> cd. Great CD!

  • Actually 2 songs , starts off on Prisoner of love , then does instrumental also from that blue line album, shame it cuts out .

  • I think the second tune is "step on it" , but there is only couple of minute of it.

  • What is the name of this song???????????

  • the name of the song is prison of love

  • recommended cd - Tiger Walk-

  • Bloody brilliant. He's probably the player I most wish I could sound like... the missing link between Stevie Ray Vaughan and Steve Lukather, but plays free jazz and changes, and just... tasty, incredibly tasty. I stole a pick from his mic stand in London a few years back, still have it. Nice pick too.

BTW I didn't know there were real orcs living in Holland. I swear at 00:49 someone in the audience shouts 'Uruk Hai!' real loud...

  • imagine Vaughan AND Ford playing together? That would've been great, only Vaughan died... Miss him so much...

  • A true legend if you ask me!! God Bless him

  • Yeah, Robben Ford is great! I've seen him live a couple of times and I also studied his music in my twenties.

  • Was turned on to Robben Ford by a guitarist friend. All players wanting to do jazz, should absorb lots of blues and not just a working knowledge of it. TOP said, "A Little Knowledge is a Dangerous Thing". I wish I turned onto the blues earlier, it would have made studying and understanding jazz a lot clearer. Thanks for posting the video!

  • Robben Ford is just the best so well rounded tasteful and amazing his arrangements alone beat almost anything out there..

Every guitar player should listen to and learn his version of Revelation..from the Talk To Your Daughter tape or CD..one of the greatest of Blues Rock Jazz Gospel solo's ever if not the best ever..

    Take if from TJ..

  • he is good but try this guy" BALAWAN" and what you do u think

  • Actually, I like RF the best - he started as a saxaphonist before guitar and therefore is more musical rather than geometric when it comes to playing the minor penatonic blues!

  • Yeah!

  • That's the Blues. Very nice soft subtle style, similar to Eric Johnson.

  • robben ford has the sickest tone, hands down

  • him and stevie ray, you should check out Larry Carlton if u haven't already, he's got great tone too. Did u know they all use dumble amps

  • Love the move at 01:50....hehehe...Seriously Robben is relly good. he's also a great jazz guitarist, some of his solo lines are jazz influenced. But he rips the blues!

  • Someone is a genius when the only thing you can reproach him for is how ugly his throusers are...

  • Stumbled onto Robbens music by accident. First song I heard was Misunderstood (Eric Burden) He is a unique muso and very original.

  • ooh - Prison of Love - one of my fave all time tracks by Mr Ford - such a great groove - if you haven't already, get the Live In San Francisco cd for another great version!!!

  • Is that Brandon Temple on drums? He looks like the drummer who did a tour with Eric Johnson back during the Venus Isle stuff.

  • I think so. I saw him in Oklahoma City at Robben's concert and he looked the same as this video.

  • i say right now he could be one of the top players still alive.. clapton has gone to the dogs..robben and buddy are really all thats left i say!

  • Joe Bonamassa - search that dude.

  • yeah man, if robben ford, eric johnson, and SRV somehow had a love child, it would be Joe.

  • Robben may very well be the top player in his genre, he is the consumate Guitar player..Anyone who tours the world with Miles Davis pretty much knows where the notes are and how to exuecute...Robben has been and continues to be my favorite GO TO player and has been since the early 80's... great clip here..

  • Frickin' shweet.

  • good you realy chance cldfsn0200 ! very very you chance robben is my king i love robben music !

  • When you are seeing robben you are seeing an unheralded srv, or jimi... most people don't realize that this baby face guitar player is about 50 and has been playing since he was about 12 years old so what ur seeing here is a guitar master of astronomical proportions. I saw him in NYC at a private party about 12 years ago my brother is a contractor who has done work for his wife... being a guitar player i naturally chatted with him between sets.

  • Yes , in 2001 he would have been 50 . Ford was born in 1951 , so that means he is 56 years old now , or 56 years YOUNG !.

  • I would say "Talent and hard work"

  • I say drink a "40" and go or it. ibzssr

  • hey, why not fuse the two?
