Hi David.. Thanks for the excellent review about Pk301.I would like to know which type of cable I should use for mini hdmi(I mean there are different types of mini hdmi like type A etc..).
Please let me know exactly which type of mini hdmi male connector i shud use.
Why do you insist on referring to the projector as the "PK301 projector" throughout the review? It's already stated at the top of the web page and the title of the video. It's ok to simply refer to it as "the projector", it's not like we're going to forget or get confused.
Excellent review! If you were to use the micro SD card to show a presentation, is there some way to scroll through the slides - preferably with a remote?
Hi Daivid. Txs for your advise. So far everything goes fine and i m still looking for the white long cable which you connected it to 3 pin holes (red and white, yellow). What is the actual name for that cables and where can i purchase. Txs
@Roma2156X The white AV (audio/video) cable that connects from to my iPod and has a yellow composite video along with left and right (red/white) is called a "Apple Composite AV Cable". It was purchased separately.
@DavidPPapp hi. is there an adapter i can buy so i can hook up a coaxial cable?(cable box). i could get an hd box from my cable provider but i would like that adapter if it's possible. any help would be nice. thanks
@Roma2156X There is a program that came with my PK301 called ArcSoft MediaConverter 3. This program converts videos such that they can be played easily on the PK301.
i wonder if you can test it with xbox or ps3 , setting it in max resolution possible and from a distance of 3 meters like to see how much are big the diagonal size.
Great overall review! I love how you explained my favorite thing about this which is the portability factor and how you can enhance your experience with other devices. My next move is to get that battery pack and the portable speakers. This is a great review to show the attributes of the PK 301. Although you forgot to mention the ability to attach to a tripod or Gorilla pod.
@DavidPPapp, David, I found that button to change the input, which shows the icons for Presentation, VIdeo etc. I have the ArcSoft Media Converter to do whatever conversions I need to do (if any). I am getting a "No File Found". What am I doing wrong or not doing? Thanks again.
David, just curious. I am really thankful to stumble upon your video for demo-ing the PICO 301. Just a question, if it is at all possible. How would I, set up my MacBook Pro to work with the PICO. This has been a frustrating venture, as I am beginning to think that it is not possible. Any words of wisdom would be helpful since I would be using the PICO for projecting Powerpoint/Keynote presentations.
@christianthinker You should be able to connect the PK301 to your MacBook using something like the "Apple Mini DVI to VGA Adapter" and connect that to the little VGA adapter cable that comes with the PK301. I assume your MacBook has a Mini DVI port on it.
@DavidPPapp I do have that, but I am not showing and seeing it "handshake" with the PICO. Are there any settings on the PICO that I need to focus my attention upon?
@bayu161290 A component cable is not included with the PK301 however Optoma does sell optional cables and you can get a component cable for the PK301.
@zangetsu00700 The PK301 is a 16:9 projector. It can display 4:3 video with no problem, but part of it is not illuminated. If you need to use 4:3 a lot, I would recommend a 4:3 aspect ratio projector. When using the PK301 for 4:3 it is not as bright and you have less resolution on the image.
I have never written a Youtube review before but after watching this video I had to. You did a really good job, the explanation was clear and detailed. Thank you so much. I ordered one and can't wait for it to arrive home. Keep the good job.
@rsosajim It's a lot of fun making youtube reviews and videos. When I am looking to research and buy something new, I want to see first hand what it looks like, the actual size, operation, features, etc. Manufacturers rarely put enough good pictures and videos, it is all marketing fluff. I want to see things work and in comparison.
When the LED lamp is on, it actually does require cooling, even on battery power. If you keep it on long enough, the fan will turn on when the temperature sensor reaches its threshold.
@badtyprr You are correct, the fan does kick in to cool even when on battery. Not sure why I said otherwise. :) It is still a really awesome projector and you don't really notice the fan. It is impressively bright even in a well lit room.
Hey you ripped this off of my Amazon review!

Hello David! First of all, great review you gave here, very clear and catchy! I still have two questions to ask:
First of all: does your projector still work or did you experience any major failures?
Second: does the PK301 project with its FULL 50 lumens when only connected to an extra battery pack (as promised in product characteristics)?
Thank you so much in advance! cheers
revello 2 months ago 2
@revello My PK301 still works great. The full 50 lumens is with AC power or using the external battery pack.
