It is necessary. For how light the hood is, and how less stronger the carbon hood is than the factory steel or aluminum, I would get hood pins. The latch isn't as strong as the factory one and hood pins are to prevent the hood from flying up on your windshield.

Carbon fiber being stressed like that will induce layers/fibers to delaminate (not right away, but the stress fractures have already been induced). The fire stunt, along with the hammer show dont mean crap. A quality control test would be cutting up pieces for analysis of fiber/epoxy mixture, bake test in idustrial oven, along with destructive ultimate load test.

if u know anything about carbon fiber all those tests dont really prove anything the heat rises u can put it on ur hand and do the same thing (please dont try it )but the fact is still the same and remember both carbon fiber and fiberglass are the strongest composites known to man BY WEIGHT so hitting it with a hammer and jumping on it really is just showing what the magic of composites and V fiber has nothing to do with it

carbon fiber is around 10 times stronger than steel and weighs five times less...

actually, the modulus is about the same, but the weight/strength ratio might be about 10. Also whats nice about metals, is that they deform and crack as they age or when they are stressed too far. Composites once beyond the linear elastic region, blow up violently :( They also hide internal delamination between layers which is a severe issue...that hood might look okay on the outside still...but put it in a NDI machine and view the damage! hahaha

Well the fire only lasts seconds as the acetone burns right off not exposing it to high heat for long at all. Engines stay hot for hours, so this really doesnt give much of a demo on heat. Gotta admit the durability is amazing. Good stuff!

engines might be hot but they don't produce extreme near the bonnet. only danger you have of damaging the looks of your bonnet is by having either an exhaust manifold go very near the bonnet or a turbo mounted very close to it.
