  • whoooooooooooooooooooooooooooaaaaaaa!!!!!!! so perfect. so very very perfect.

  • Amazing grace..... We are blassed with with such heavenly performers

  • Oh how I miss my grandfather he loved these guys. Soul music.

  • same tune as the house of the rising sun..great sound guys

  • They sang this song the other night at the Bama Rising concert. I have never heard Amazing Grace sound so wonderful!!! True God given talent!!!!

  • Amazing Grace!

  • These guys remind me of the 3 Blind Mice, they might be blind but it doesn't stop them from getting where they need go.

  • Lol @ 1:15, the guy has to turn him the right direction to face the audience!

I guess the blind boys of alabama really are blind

Fantastic rendition of Amazing Grace though, I absolutely love it!

  • i wish they had a pre-recorded version

  • @theira0 They do

  • first time I heard their version I was hooked. One of the best.

  • Saw them in Malmö, Sweden. Cried for the first time in my life. I´m 60.

  • I think the first recording (House of the Rising Sun) was by Leadbelly, who recorded a whole ton of folk songs for smithsonian, many of which he did not write- he was just the first to record them.

  • I think the first recording (House of the Rising Sun) was by Leadbelly, who recorded a whole ton of folk songs for smithsonian, many of which he did not write- he was just the first to record them.

  • What is it about this rendition that compels us atheists? I heard it for the first time today and had to find it for myself.

  • @CSMemphis Praise God. I am so happy for you.

  • many more versions that are much more emotional than this version. They are not bad...but far far from the best.

  • Read the Wikipedia origins and history of both song, recordings, and the House itself. Really fascinating. Anyway this is a great rendition of 'Grace' and in the tradition of all great classics is inspired and influenced by other music and musicians. Can't seem to post Wiki address here. Just Google it.

  • @thejonnyrocket1 Please do your homework before posting uninformed opinions. See comment below from bubbamotown96. You need to get familiar with both songs and with this group. And no where are they calling it "theirs". Good Lord! Educate yourself.

  • ripped this song from animals, cant change the lyrics and key of a song and call it yours,JESUS BLESS !!

  • @thejonnyrocket1 First of all, "House of the Rising Sun" was not written by, nor first performed by, The Animals. So in your words, they "ripped" this song. I believe they "ripped" Bob Dylan, who "ripped" some other folk singer, who did his own arrangement of a old traditional song. Secondly, I don't imagine they ever tried to take credit for the lyrics to "Amazing Grace". They took two traditional songs and combined them. And quite brilliantly I may add. But thanks for your informed insight.

  • @thejonnyrocket1 om...since when? Doesn't that make it different?

  • I'm an Atheist- But it's a brilliant blend of songs. Personalty I think it modernizes the original message of the song and makes it more potent.

  • I'm an Atheist- but damn those guys have it going on! Brilliant blend of songs. Personalty I think it modernizes the original message of the song and makes it more potent.

  • This makes me want to fall to the ground and give thanks.

  • wow, they turned a song about a house of ill repute and turned it into a gospel. I have heard many versions of this song. this is one of the best.

  • Awesome. I saw the PUSH Physical Theatre (out of NY) perform to this song. It was amazing. Inspirational music and dance...goosebumps. God bless these men.

  • lame

  • This song is so great that you can take almost any tune and make it work. I wonder if the man who wrote it had any idea. Probably not.

I've heard this song done many different ways and by many different artists.

    Still love it!!!

  • @BBiebigheiser Don't really care for this but it does have a House Of the rising Sun sound to it, matter of fact I would love them to cover that song, It would be perfect.

  • you can't beat how this makes you feel.

  • @robsoilcan Someone should "beat" these guys over the head with a drum stick for changing a classic gospel song like this. But I guess maybe if they're blind they didn't realize they had the wrong sheet music. See my band's new Amazing Grace video for a lesson on how to properly perform this classic melody.

  • @number1covers Its ppl like you thats caused music to be in the horrible place it is today.I only feel sorry for the ppl that idiotically listen to you as your "band" is a pure disgrace to music.Do yourself and everybody else a favor and quit music altogether(if you can even call the shit you created music). The BBoA play it the way its suppose to be played, with soul and feeling which you obviously have none of.I only hope my message can save others from having to hear your horrid creation.

  • @hardly731 This guy's obviously just jealous of the fact that I'm in a kick ass band.

  • @chardy731 dude, you gotta be aware that their are many types of music that many people like, and just becuasae you don't like something dosen't make it bad, for example, i like almost all music, for example, i liten to this type of music, i listen to classical, jazz, big band, various types of rock, heavy metal, and rap/hip-hop! Like, i listen to a slow, loud, hard version of the Battle Hymn of the Republic, but just becuase you don't like hardly731's music, dosen't mean other people do.

  • Deliciously ironic that this is being sung to the melody of "The House of the Rising Sun" which is of course a song about a man damned to keep returning to a whorehouse - "one foot on the platform, the other on the train, I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain."

These guys are on top of it!

  • @TheJedgeworth Thank you! I KNEW I knew that tune from somewhere! :)

  • Even with the subpar audio on this video it sounds like a very powerful performance. This must have been complete and utter bliss to have heard live. I'm jealous of everyone that was in the crowd!

  • Most excellent. Keep singing the Gospel for the world to know God is the only answer.

  • All I want to see if these guys tour with Seasick Steve and I can die a happy man.

  • @badongism I saw them open for Peter Gabriel in 2002- they recorded on Real World Records. They came back out to do backing vocals on "Sky Blue."

  • outstanding.

  • all i have to say is thank god for the internet.

  • Can anybody tell me which cd this rendition is on? They have done the traditional tune, too, but I'd like this one. Thanks.

  • It is on 'spirit of the century',also check out 'Go tell it on the mountain' which is equally as good.

  • Thanks ... just in time to get it for Christmas.

  • It's on their "Spirit if the Century" album from 2001

  • WOW!!! txfam3 is right!! Looks like "The Animals" are gonna owe John Newton's family a ton of royalties!!!! Don'cha just hate lawyers?! LOL

  • What does that have to do with anything? House Of Rising sun is Public Domain, they are simply singing the words of Amazing Grace to this tune.

  • i love these guys and this song, but does this version remind anyone else of House of The Rising Sun?

  • aye it does.........very much like hotrs....still a canny rendition like.....regards

  • coz they sing the song with the music and meodly of The Rising Sun mayhaps? :P

  • yes, when you asked. i think the guitar is a part of the recembelance

  • Yes, it is being sung to the tune of "House of the Rising Sun"....An interesting side note, before the 20th century, it was not unusual to take a familiar melody and use it in different songs(Our national anthem is set to the tune of an old English drinking song, and it was common to use the same melody in a hymn, drinking song, etc).

  • it's supposed to, it matches perfectly.

  • I love these guys :)

  • Brilliant ! So grateful to have had a chance to hear this -- Hope that Eric Burden enjoys this extraordinary version, too Blessings

  • thats how its done!

  • Blind Boys can see, what we never can see!!! Greetings from a really blind boy, who think he can see, from Germany ;)

  • very impressive, propz

  • The best contemporary arrangement to Amazing Grace ever done.I love this!Check out the video on youtube: Sensational Clouds of Zion...OMG!!!!

  • Amazing Grace has always been my favorite hymn, and being a child of the 60's House of The Rising Sun was also a favorite. Who ever came up with putting them together is a genious! Truly Amazing Grace.

  • Whoever that was who put the two songs together is long unknown. Blues musicians often borrowed tunes they heard in church and wrote new blues lyrics to them. The Blind Boys are the first to honor that connection.

  • marvelous, in that old southern tradition to the tune of "house of the rising sun"

  • WOW it sends chills down my spine

  • best rendition of this song by far! very spiritual...very eerie!!

  • great song and great performance of it. Thanks

  • Great blend of two great classic songs!:)

  • thanks for sharing this...stephan....

  • Are these fellows really blind or is it just a title ?

    I enjoy their unique music.

A Jesus IS Lord, He is the one and Only Son of God. He is God made man.

How and why, because He is God, He can do Anything.

Jesus came to teach us love, forgiveness, to love one another.

He died on the cross for our sins, He was raised up on the 3rd day.

    Praise the Lord....

    Amen.

  • Yes they're all blind. From what I understand, they met as children at a school for the blind.

  • god works in mysterious ways

dedicated to my ol man jimmy ray winters he loves god and the blues

  • religous blues

    god loves us all

  • Great Job,and Jesus Christ is the way,the truth and the life.

  • If any of us get to go to Heaven these men will already be at the gate. Singing this song.

  • @pmul246 That would be Freaking AWESOME!!!!!!

  • I love this! It should be called "The Rise Of the Amazing House Of Grace"

  • you can see well only with your heart's eyes (Blaise Pascal); call Him God, Mohammed, Javeh, or whatever, there's only One, and if you really listen to these AMAZING voices singing with the bottom of their soul you'll understand... I had the luck to see them in Zurich and to meet them after the concert.... they are really awesome, all of them, in every way! Jimmy, Rick, Ben... you really rock!!!!!

  • This sounds like the "House of the Rising Sun."

  • That's right, brilliant isn't it. When I first heard it several years ago I thought eh weird but the more I listened to it the more I loved it. Wow Clarence Fountain is at his best on this one.

  • omg it does!!!!

  • it reminds me of 'house of the rising sun'. nice anyway.

  • That'd be because it's being to same tune ... fantastic live!

  • They are absolutely amazing!!!

  • bendito santo el creador,,,pedazo version que se marcan estos tios,,,me quito el sombrero,,,,buenisima!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing grace of the rising sun!!!

  • This is very cool thanks for posting. Love the guitar!

  • this is AWESOME! My 21 year old just turned me on to them!

  • Is the drummer blind?

  • Ye sthe drummer is blind

  • Yes, he is blind. I saw them on KET on TV yesterday and it showed an upclose veiw on all of the band. I find it pretty amazing that he does so well on the drums.

  • best song on you tube..........

  • I love this music and i'm not even Christian

  • Accepting Jesus is the only way to heaven. Please know that as long as you're alive, it's not too late.

  • Yep. You are exactly right! I'm 19 and I've been saved since I was 9 and I'm growing closer to God each and every single day.

  • So all Jews, Buddhists, Muslims, and other non-Christians are banned? I'm not sure I want into your racist heaven.

  • No one said Jews Muslims and any religion was not allowed except you. God wants you too

  • "No one said Jews Muslims and any religion was not allowed except you. God wants you too "

    Which god would that be?

  • Saw tham a couple of years ago. They were great. Peace in our Lord. Joh 10:10

  • That was quite simply fantastic! I just saw a clip of them on Imus, and found this looking for one I could embed. So cool!!! Thanks for posting this!

  • Really Nice! Amen!

  • this is new to me. house of rising sun was the first guitar song i ever learned. my brother taught me. i will sing these lyrics for him on a special occasion. (my gosh, they really are blind)

  • exelente cancion

realmente es otra version del gospel

ojala sigan haciendo esta clase de musik

  • This sounds like the song 'Bright like the morning star. Was this song sampled from it?

  • It's the words Amazing Grace sung to the music of "the house of the rising sun". Brilliant!

  • LOVE Blind Boyz! They do indeed rule.

  • Actually, the man we have to accept to go to heaven, which is Jesus, rules.

  • It was a comment to reflect how much I LOVE their music. Perhaps I should have said their MUSIC rules. :) have a great day. Lighten up.

  • Actually you are right about that. I should have chosen my words more carefully. Thank you for pointing that out. :)

  • Dont sweat it, we all were forgiven 2000 years ago on a hill in Israel.

  • This is an interesting arrangement. I listened to it a couple of times with a fresh perspective. I like it.

  • A very Rising Sun-inflected Amazing Grace, and maybe the best Grace ever. Blind Boyz rule.

  • AAA shit that is a hella great version for amazing grass blues style.

  • Where's Clarance Fontain?

  • I saw them do their Christmas show at the Belly Up in Solana Beach last year...just thinking of the show still makes me smile. Truly great performers.

  • This is awesome, just awesome!

  • I saw them play Bridgewater Hall in Manchester a couple of years back and it was simply amazing. They can't go on forever so make every attempt to see them play live - while you still can!

  • I love these guys. I realise they're blind, and i have great respect for them, but it's still pretty funny how the singer keeps turning away from the audience, and some dude runs out and straightens him up.

  • Yeah, the lead singer needs a mic stand, that'd keep him straight.

  • God I love these guys. I just saw them last night. They're so fucking cool.

  • this is like a medley of amazing grace and house of the raising sun..cool

  • It does. Sounds like they used the arrangement from "The House of the Rising Sun".

  • I've heard about them, but it's the first time I actually hear them

  • Caught these fellas, a few years back, in Montreal, opening for Peter Gabriel. Never had heard of them. However, I'll never forget them - especially this haunting, yet beautiful rendition of Amazing Grace.

    Phil 4:8

  • fantastic. i saw them two years ago in dublin and it was one of the best gigs of mu life. they're coming back this year i hope i can make it
