The beauty of music is that every musician and conductor has the freedom to be creative with a piece. Just because someone else wrote the song doesn't mean that you have to play exactly how they wrote it. That's something that is especially true with jazz. In this case, he wanted to play the song at a slightly faster tempo. Not only is he welcome to do so, but it sounds just as good. In my opinion the faster tempo makes the song seem a little happier.

He's great but too fast. It must be the sheet. Playing by ear is quite better even though knowing how to read music sheet gives one an advantage.

every few notes three or so are supposed to be slurred, but not as fast as he does it. theres a really beautiful quality to the song if you play it by ear
