  • Well i liked the video! Freaking haters... what a horrible disease to be running around with.. Must be exhausting!

  • The riffs at 3:30 got my fingers itching like hell...now I gotta pick my bass up and groove out!

  • sounds great man, saw ur other vid of the genz bens, think i might pick one up.

  • Nice stuff! Don't listen to the idiots on here. Most of the people who leave negative comments are wannabes who can only criticize those who can actually do something. I always find it amusing that when you go to their channels they either have no videos or just really pointless crap. They never have anything of themselves playing anything. They are just jealous talentless morons!

I have a question. At 5:29 is that part from first blood?

  • you can bend my penis "the long way."

  • @mrchicken9000 How's he supposed to bend your penis the long way? I've seen your vids you talentless bitch. You look like a fucking fat chick. If you are a dude he couldn't get to your penis without a crane to lift the fat rolls out of the way!

  • you finally got to the good stuff after wasting our time with nonsensical finger-tapping and slapping. nice stuff. but yeah... the Ken Smith and Eden are half of it.

  • Never start with an apology! Just raise your flag and see who salutes. You can "explain" in the end if something went wrong.

And btw, good playing you didn't need the opening disclaimer.

  • good jam brother. you were crankin some funky stuff.

  • sounds good...you were cracking me up in the beginning!

  • okay...u just wait....lol

  • Hmmm I liked your eden tone better than your genz tone, but then again, EQ on the genz could hit this tone.

  • Pretty good =]

    Some really sloppy bits though

  • nice was that your own music

  • That was fun. Although I'm never all that comfortable seeing people bend their bass necks like you do at the start! Thanks for the clip.

(i got the link from talkbass)

  • Whats up with all these people being little bitches?

i thought you were pretty good

  • Eden endorser and Genz Benz endorser. What a guy. Nothing like a Smith in the morning. Nice job.

  • "I am acting alone" that sounds like the manifesto of the Uni-bassist.

  • pretty cool but u need to be a bit modest :D

  • I am

  • Why does he have to be modest?

  • well thank you... thank you very much. I appreciate your opinion. So show me how you do it so I can improve

  • way too stuck up, yes your good... but not that good.

  • well if got "stuck up" out of this then you missed the boat my friend.Once again, I will happily watch yours.

  • Enjoy your presentation... Especially towards the ending.. Good stuff! Please post more! :)

  • Hey, I can see your eyeballs!

  • SKILZZZ. Respect.

  • you should invest in a sixer. It would suit your style quite nicely.

  • the end was the funniest part of the video. but the whole vid WAS AWESOME!

  • LMFAO 4:37!!!

    Very good though man

  • whoa, nice

  • awesome man

  • Your my freakin hero

  • Great stuff, Dennis. Love it!

  • the way he plays reminds me of victor wooten

  • Funk on my man...........

  • how long have you been playing?

  • Man u r so, so, so good!!!

  • They don't say anything about you slapping over your fretboard! Maybe cuz you play so way better :)

  • weird, it sounds like a guitarist playin on a 5 string bass... is he a guitarist? he's got to be.Does anyone know? loved it though!

  • o.0

  • your style is like a mix of all my favorite bassists. Wow. very good.

  • br00tal

  • aaaaaaaaaaaaaam

  • gotta love the slap-pop

  • 3:30, this is just the funkiest thing i have ever heard

  • Yeah, by far my favorite part. Awesome sounding

  • this is the greatest yes it is the bomb i just wish i could be like you man except i dont have a guitar but if i did had a guitar i wish i could have skills on a bass like you but i know that is never going to happen because your skills are just too geat and i can never match oyour skill i hope i could at least be sorta like you because you're awesome

  • at 3:10 it sounds somewhat like all appologies by nirvana

  • yea right u can't play in the sun. thats some of the best bass playing i've ever heard in my life.

  • you are so awesome

  • Hey everyone i'm 14 and i just started playing bass less than a week ago. I have been playing guitar for 1 1/2 years but I wasn't that good at it. (but I do have a lot of basics down) and now I play bass. but I feel lost please if anybody has some pointers for me or tips or help to play bass please send me a message.

    -Steve

  • check out some scales, even chromatic .

  • thanks man

  • basist4141, a pick will give u a much sharper, crisper tone to your bass, but if your like me you'll just go in with your fingers for a smoother sound.

  • hey bassist4141...you can find some greast bass books at barnes&noble if you dont have a 'Guitar Center' store or 'Sam Ash' nearby...:pratice Scales ALL THE TIME.

  • bassist4141

dont rely on the pick! drop it and ur done

  • Thats a beautiful bass, and it plays well by the looks of things, gorgeous sound out of that.

I play a Dean ML, a Fender Jazz, a Squier P, and my own home made creation the BG Bumblebass.

I think i need ur bass XD

either that or become immensly rich and buy a Warwick Thumb, Stryker or Vampyre.

Any chance you could give me more details on how to get a hold of that bass??

    Thanks,

    Zakk

  • dude when you talked about how much it bends you remind me of the bassist from spinal tap lol. "Hello Cleveland" finger jesters lol price less you gotta watch spinal tap and then watch that amazing, Then you play and remind me of the bassist from tool and queensryche, and some what of Les Claypool and Metallica's earlier bassist.

  • LOL, I have to respect a neck that will bend that far. Over the years I have removed some 3 bolt jazz bass necks from their bodies. So construction is inportant these days.

  • Thats verry nice m8, i rly that bass.. but who dosen't. i'm looking forward to see more from you!

  • There will be more videos coming in the very near future.

  • You are very talented. Are you Joe Dirt's father?

  • Thank you very much...and no I am not his father.

  • Nice work! Makes me want to get out my fretless Ric and finally learn how to play it! <;-)

    Amy / Clatter

  • Amy, you should. Fretless is definately my favorite instrument. there are times fretted must be used but I do indeed play fretless most of the time.

  • Thank you for showing today's root holding 8th noters what our instrument is really for. This made my day.

  • Ivan, Thank you. I just think there is a lot of ground to cover on the instrument so we should get creative.

  • If I had a big recording company, I would definatily hire you. Five stars, no doubt.

  • you rule

  • this truly is awesome

  • Thank you very much. I do appreciate it.

  • i keep watching this

  • dude, you're awesome

  • You are too kind. Thank you.

  • well 46 and no hair cut to be had. If you or society doesn't like don't look.

  • you got some funky soul

    :)

  • You're the funkiest, hippiest, 50 year old abssist i've ever seen. (wait, isn't Claypool almost 50?)

  • what was the first riff you played?

  • Dude, I live in Newark too. You should totally let me know if you play anywhere, I'd come hang.

  • Every Wednesday at 4 Corners Bar in Elkton on rt 213 from 8:30-12:30 and every Sunday at the Beachcomber 7-10:30 come visit

  • hes palying claypool licks as well

  • never listened to him so you would know better than I

  • At the start of 2:00, that lick sounds like John Entwistle playing "Won't Get Fooled Again", the live version. This is great dude.

  • Not to discredit Fretlessboy, But I know at least the first two licks where you are tapping were lifted from Stu Hamm and Vic Wooten.

Again, no disrespect, but if all you have to do is play other peoples licks to get endorsed by Eden and KSD, then sign me up! ;)

  • No discredit taken dude. Maybe they played my "licks" because I don't listen to either one of them and honestly never have. As far as my endorsements go show me what you got and I'll put a word in for you... I couldn't seam tofind any of your videos...

  • please

  • lol... you kill me

  • I'm no slouch. I can record videos with my digital camera, but I need to change the video from .mov to a more compressed format. Unfortunately, quicktime is really proprietary. I will figure out a way though and post a video just for you.

  • I never said you were a slouch. I just find it amazing that the people with the most to say aren't up for review.

  • the only insane thing about this video is that this guy is an endorser for ken smith and david eden? I had to pay so much for my WT550 damn you!

  • That made me laugh out loud (literally).

  • well chewy, what do you bring to the table? You could have bought GK and saved some money and maybe been less bitter.

  • and tune your bass ;) low G and D-string at least

  • pretty nice, not insane but good (one bassplayer to another)nice bass. You should´ve played with some kind of drum or rythm! nice chords you´re playing!

  • awesome man im not a bassist(i play drums) but that was pure genius awesome just awesome keep up the good work

  • Simply beautiful.. From one bassist to another(although you might have abit more experience *laughs*).

  • where you playing any particular songs, or just jamming?

  • You pretty much played every hip style of bass excellently. Great tone.

  • SICK!!!

  • Very, very good.

  • at 3:21 you're playing with just one finger one your right hand which is somezhing a bassist mustn't do!! the rest is 4* it's very good but not insane...

  • a bassist mustn't play with 1 finger? What if that is all it takes to get done? I'll try to use more next time. Thanks for the tip.

  • That was a very polite response.

Jamerson played a lot with only one finger...

  • i completly agree... how do you think they make up new styles and techniques??? you have to break away from the conventional methods that make music to make your place and develop your own sound

  • i agree with what your sayin, but different techniques make different sounds

  • Very disappointing ... title said INSANE ... thought there was going to be drooling, rolling around, playing with dog turds etc... BUT, I was very pleased and amazed by your incredible bass skills!!! Wow ... U rule! :)

  • TY, I am glad to bring you something you liked.

  • Hey ppl, harp on bout the usual suspects....ie jaco /wooten etc...but there are loads of equally talented ppl out there who are not as famous...huge respect.

  • thank you.

  • Pleast make the first note of the bar more prominent; I lost the rhythm a few times and though you were playing offbeats.

  • I was infact playing over the bar line. I think if you square it off too much it can become steril.

  • Incredible.... some of the best work ive seen yet! and a frettles as well! woa....

  • are you blind or just listening? do you not see the frets?

  • ll...well if I were blind I wouldn't be readng the comment. I prefer to listen more than look. My bass sits in the same place everytime I strap it on so I know where everything is.

  • from the bottom of my heart thank you very much.

  • That is shweeetttt! One of the best bassist I've ever seen playing.

  • Thank you so very much.

  • how r u so good? how long have been playing I've been playing 4 2 years and I'm not even at the lv. ur at

  • I guess I have been at it about 25 years now. Thankss for the compliment. I do appreciate it

  • On the contrary man, you should try being part of a rhythm section with him. Groove, bursting with creativity.

  • Hey Mike, I'd like to see you play creatively. :)

  • woah woah woah! the bass is cool.

  • This is awesome bass playing

  • i like how you said 'too much time on your hands' which is the reason why youre nice at bass lOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

  • dude u are amazing :)

  • very very nice your definetly something else i loved everything past 5:30 amazing and ebfore that was god to but how your eyes got at 6:42 that killed me AHAHAH@!!!! very nice man your extremely talented i bet you'd blwo a guitar out of the water man

  • Wow, I really liked where it went at about 5:00 ish. That's such great music to chill to. Thankyou for sharing.

  • Dude, totally awesome. On a side note, as soon as I saw your face..... I thought it was a Jerry Springer parody.

  • WOW Thats genius!!!!

  • haha i like you! humor and bass skills, good combination:)

  • watch my bass vids fellow bassist! :)

  • Awesome Ken Smith

  • Reminds me of Saxondale.

  • cazzo se è bravo il tipo

  • pitu pitu

  • u in a band? if not, get one together, ur pretty good

  • Dude, your like Garth from Wayne's World. Sick bass man, nice work.

  • Nice man ^^

  • i like how you play. bery technical but you can still hear every note. not like sum bass players who are very skilled but they jus beat and pluck their guitars so fast and hard that you cant hear the notes

  • That was great.

  • INcredible man. Truly incredible. Seriously one of the best bassists i've ever seen. Keep playing man.

  • FANTABULOUS! :D

  • man keep playing man

  • you are very good. How much would that amp setup cost and how many watts can it put out?

  • Dude, that's great technique you got there, and you have a very cool style, please let me know when your classes begin!

  • holy crap. that is completely awesome!!!

  • dude i wish you were my teacher... AWESOME!!!!!

  • I will be teaching online with in the next few months so watch for an announcement and info. Thanks.

    Dennis

  • hey by the way, were the pickups on this particular bass bartolini by any chance?

  • ken smith pups

  • Wow. Was that all improvisation? I like what you were doing with bending the neck. Are you a music teacher?

  • Yes it was and thank you. I will however be teaching lessons online with ion the next few months for keep an eye out for information. Thanks.

    Dennis

  • Nice rig! Nice Bass! Nice sound! i love the intro kinda tap part.... i hope one day i can play like that

    -STeve

  • Play a groove fella

  • Great stuff Dennis - you da man. :)

    -Wes

  • I MEANT POSTER. clearly i cant type :P

  • i did 2 tours 10 years appart

  • *joseph and the technicolor dreamcoat poser

  • why do you have a joseph and the technicolor dream coat in the background lmfao

  • ur really good dude and i love ur bass. are 5 strings worth gettin? im undecided whether to get a warwick or an epiphone thunderbird next. any ideas anyone?

  • I spent 7 years tryinbg to find a 5 liked. I finaly played a Smith and fell in love. I have a fretless Smith also. But based off the sound you are looking for not the name on top.

  • what do you look for in a bass nd what do you need to compensate for as a player

  • Billy Sheehan also uses the neck bend thing alot

  • That was a nice bit of noodling!! I can only do about 20% of that stuff!

  • nice stuff, that neck bend is crazy, and it seems that gary doesnt know what dynamics are so just keep doing what your doing. nice job again.

  • There's some stuff i really enjoyed listening in this video ^_^ and i think i should give it a 8/10 for the sounds and rythm to the groove of it.

Actually what i really like is that all the notes sounds so you can actually hear them.

  • kinda boring and no dynamics.

  • amazing

  • awesome jam... definitely kickass

  • I dont see anything id call insane, but none the less I heard a lot of stuff I liked. Im all about hamonizing relaxing bass.

4/5 just because there wasnt any particular structure.

  • nice hair ;)

  • amazing

  • very good amigo

  • idiocracy?

  • Really dig your playing and the equipment you're using is A1... have you tried the Aguilar Db750?

  • NO I haven't. A dear friend/student uses one but I haven't tried it. I love my Eden gear and won't leave it behind.

  • This is so cool Dennis!! Please edit your video and change the tags to say Bass player and bassist..and possibly the title too, so that these videos come up when kids are searching. You are awesome!! Thanks for making these :) xoxo

  • something more like this? Val I did these for you ( I also did these to make a human in hopes of stopping the hate male from the bassgirls letter). You my dear are the bomb.

  • you are one badass bassist! :)
