I really dont understand why the people who made this show could not have given Michael a real Polish last name. The name Stivic is about as Polish as the name Bunker is Italian.
Edith is a nice person but her story does not sound like one I would want to hear the end of and as for that word I would just tell her to spell it anyway she wants
In all this I find it very hard to believe that George McGovern being a rich liberal with so many celebrities behind him like Streisand would not have had enough money for his campaign

Mike owed the Bunkers a debt of gratitude. They housed, fed, and generally supported him through his entire education. Throwing $275 at this McGovern dude was as good as burning it.

I loved Archie ... some of the things he came out with -- such an ignorant, loudmouth on screen, yet Mr. O'Connor was the kindest, most gentlemanly, warmhearted sweetheart off screen! true that they did make a deal that after Mike gets out of school and on his feet the first thing was to pay back Archie, Archie agreed. Still... paying your "fair share" is what's right and Mike should have gave him that money instead of giving it to ppl Archie was totally and openly against.

And if I recall, Mike still didn't pay Archie back even after he finished school, started work, and moved next door. In the blackout episode around 1977 or so, Archie revealed that Mike still owed him a bunch of money.

Mike is a fucking dick. I never understood how someone had the balls to get married and not get a job. When I went to college, I worked 3rd shift at a grocery store stocking shelves in the winter and busted my ass in the sun during the summer. Mike never worked and he was a lazy piece of shit and I wasn't married. I just felt the need to help my mom since my dad had died. Mike, the character, is a piece of shit. As an actor, Rob Reiner is great and RIP Carroll.

What deal? Archie didn't have a choice he is putting him through school and then at the end he ends up in leaving Gloria and joining a commune. Archie needs the money now. I know its a character.
