yea stop these crazy scientists from polluting...stop geoengineering the mess, so that you can turn around and say that geoengineering is actually the solution to our problems...with your backward ways of doing things...creating a crisis to keep yourselves busily employed solving them...how can you sleep soundly at night?

Photosynthesis uses carbon dioxide and water, releasing oxygen as a waste product. Photosynthesis is vital for life on Earth. As well as maintaining the normal level of oxygen in the atmosphere, nearly all life either depends on it directly as a source of energy, or indirectly as the ultimate source of the energy.

Sunlight+H20+CO2+Nutrients=CH2­0+O2

Your confused, Tree's grow till they die...so will always use up C02

@SuperLuigirules1 I have pointed out that the photosynthesis is only one half of the Carbon cycle. By ignoring the other, CnHm + O2 -> CO2 + H2O, you try to prove that the whole balance is not zero or oxygen is produced. What if I follow your reason to claim that trees consume O2 rather than produce it and emit CO2? Hardly, your ignorance is a good basis for reassuring those who see the whole picture of the Nature.

@valtih1978 I was simply disproving your claim that Tree's don't convert Co2 in 02. You really love to use the term Ignorance when your the one who doesn't belive that the Amazon or Boral Forests clean the air we breath, At no point have a I said this is the only part of the Carbon Cycle on earth, But it is one of the single biggest factors. We are never going to agree on this matter clearly. So I'm going to agree to disagree with you.

Since the net oxygen production is 0, trees clean air by preventing soil erosion and absorbing dust and dangerous gases in cities (not CO2). But the main reason not to cut forest is capitalist consumption-based growth. The planet will not survive it.

Tree's teraformed this planet into an inhabitable place over millions of years. During the process the tree uses the Carbon to make Sugar (or food) which it survives on and has no use for the 02 so releases it into the air, Think of it as a giant filter such as found in a fish tank which filters out the carbon using and leaves 02. All life on earth is carbon based so when it dies it will release carbon in it's basic form. Nasa are looking at teraforming other planets to make them habitable.

For the love of god visit a natural history museum! I understand that dead plants rot down over millions of years to form oil, gas.. the basic forms of carbon energy. We are all carbon based but whilst they are alive they clean our air. Google it, Call up a scientist.

There is no need to ask a scientist if you understand the metamorphosis the carbon experiences in the forest. Yet, the disputed question, "Which rainforest produces half of the world's oxygen?", was asked from a reputed scientist on WikiAnswers. He is lying about brightening in Europe. I live in Estonia I mention that yet in 199x (when we had our USSR industry destroyed) we had a blue sky. Now, it is Grey - I cannot even see if there is a cloud or not. Since year 2000, East Europe has (1) flooded by private cars and (2) airlines, as opposed to trains, became the international major transport. The most dimming comes from airlines. They have always grown exponentially and much faster in East Europe.

What about the effects of large volcanic erruptions? such as Sarychev Peak on June 12 this year when millions of tonnes of dust, ash and sulphur dioxide were thrown up to 30 miles into the air.

And who should pay the carbon tax on these volcanic events?

I agree, the earth and nature is the biggest contributer of carbon dixoide, monoxide etc.. swamps, frozen lakes all release methane into the atmosphere and even some rocks, it's the gases left over from broken down plants millions of years ago. And we keep hearing about global warming!? It's getting colder it'd appear, that doesn't quiet make sense. I think the biggest factor in Earth's tempreture, is the Sun, if there aren't as many solar flares earth cools, and it has contributed to ice ages.

The Earth has the balance between CO2 emissions and consumption. These are zillions of oil barrels per day that emit irreversible CO2. Take scientific data if you have no idea.

Stand outside at night and measure the temperature, and then do the same in the day when the sun's shining what do you notice? Sun has been there forever but Planet has reached its 150 000-year record during our lifetime. CO2 concentration has rapidly grown during last 100 years and reached levels unprecedented in millions of years. Surely, this is coincidence and natural phenomena for ignorant nonsense propagators.

@valtih1978 You can indulge in this end of days style theory. But just like with all the others, such as the Ice age in the 70's & overpopulation of earth from the 60's which turned out to be wrong. Earth is in a constant state of change, we're a young species and we aren't accustomed to climate change, it scares us. I think we'd rather predict our own doom than admit we have no real control here. Want to save the planet, cut down on de-foresting, Trees absorb the CO2 and make 02..

Also can I point out on major thing here...You don't make Co2 it's already here on earth. There is a fixed amount of elements in different states, some as solids others a gases. all life is carbon based. Now I agree man needs to cut down on pollution as clearly, it's not good for our health let alone the nature. But I find the panic over the past 100 years to be ridiculous. Look a Earth's history and it's not that hard to see earth has seen bigger changes in climate without the help of man

Every your statement is either a speculation or demonstration of ignorance. Deforesting is only one of the problems caused by over-consumption. Finally, thinking that trees convert CO2 into O2 is also a myth: they do only while growing but smoulder all produced C and O2 back into CO2 after death. The unidirectional process is non-renewable oil burтing.

Mature Tree's produce Oxygen and reduce Carbon. Without tree's we would all be dead.Fact! 20% of the worlds oxygen comes from the Amazon and that canopy didn't spring up in a decade!

Go to a natural history museum. I agree you can debate Gloal warming. But not that tree's turn Co2 into 02. They really do!

@SuperLuigirules1 Government's go on about Global warming as they can make a profit. Tax, ecofines, Congestion charge etc. But they can't tax on trees so they don't bother the subject. Read up on it and I promise you will find Tree's of all ages produce 02 but it varies from species as to the quantity and climate conditions. Growing trees do use more Carbon as it's Energy to grow but mature tree's are the lungs of this world. The Boreal Forests are such an example of this cleaning cycle.
