  • Hi Dan, so did you ever finish this project? and did you make a video about the process / yield. I can't seem to find it in your video's.

    /cheers Morten from denmark

    SOLAR SERDAR

    Best wishes from Zagreb, CROATIA

  • Why not just cut two of the length grooves with the table saw and then use a figure saw to cut away the middle section in between? wouldn't that also minimize the "jaggedness" that you get with your technique? btw sorry if I use the wrong words for the tools, English is not my native language.

  • Dan I enjoy all your stuff! You may already be on this but if you have a source of Co2 that you can add to your water you can really bump up your algae production. Ethanol production is a great source. Just a thought for you. Source is David Blume's "Ethanol Can Be a Gas"

  • Dan i wonder if those tuff spots can be delt with using a dremel?

  • Hey Dan. I like your vids alot, and I've seen them all. I've had a lot of success using a router table with a fence for alot of the cuts I see you do with the table saw. The perfect circles, wide cuts, etc are accomplished faster, easier and safer in my opinion. Have you considered this? I'd like to know your reasoning if so. Keep em comin, Dan. I like the cut of your jib.

  • @bowakowa Hi, in regards to the circle cut on the table saw, I can get a 46" diameter circle from a 4x8 on 3/4" plywood in about 2 minutes. The setup is easier IMHO. I cut about 40 circles a week for business and it is easier 4 me. Routers are good but not as fast. I like the table saw, it is a personal preference I guess. What router blade do you use for heavy fast wood cuts. Also if you get a chance, shoot a video of a thick wood circle router cut, I could approve for a video response.

  • 6:58 use a jigsaw

  • Dado Blades are not good for this type of cut because they tend to

make small chip like fragments off the PVC pipe, these can hurt and even

cut your hands if you are hit hard enough by them. Plus with a single blade

you have more control over the depth and the width of the cut. Dadoes tend

to bind up and melt the pipe.

  • they make blades for cuts like this they go up to a inch wide, wish i could remember what they are called there spacers that go inbetween blades

  • @satan31337 dado blade

  • @satan31337 It is called a DADO blade.

  • Is that a bruise you have on the right side of your face.. Woah, that must have hurt!

  • oooh a kitty!!!!!!

  • I think on these videos that are how to build a piece of a project, it would be helpful to show the finished piece first, then show how to build it.

  • a higher tooth count blade is always better, if that is what you referred to as a specialty blade. You should also always run your blade backwards when cutting plastics to avoid kick back and splintering.

  • WHY ARE ALL YOUR TAGS IN CAPS?

  • Art and science. Exactly what my dentist told me.

  • @localbroadcast If you don't like the video, do not watch, YouTube isn't a television.

  • Just clamp it to a guide and use a router. ( I know, all these arm chair "Norm Abram"s... lol)

  • @localbroadcast says the guy with 17 subscribers ,lol .

  • y really detailed, but I think he lives in Finland

  • @ispixxxxx Definitely Florida, he's said it many times in his other videos.

  • Wiuldent a plywood blade do a nicer job?

  • hmm harbor freight... u dont happen to live in south florida do you?

  • @p52ntwrk he lives in california

  • @fireworkgalore: Nope Florida

  • Instead of doing a poor man's dado, I would just cut each side of the 5/8" hole starting and stopping around 1 inch from each end. Then use a small hand saw, jigsaw, dremel, or whatever you have to finish the cuts and do the ends; that will result in a lot cleaner hole and be a lot faster than doing multiple passes with a table saw.

  • Dan, youve got my drill - even missing the cheap black plastic thingy with the drill guage on it! Howd you get my drill .... oh, mine is still here... hmmmmmm

  • 12:28

    Priceless :D

  • Thanks Dan.

  • I still dont get it.What is the algae for???

  • @craftchest You stick it in a centrifuge for a bit, then you take the pure algae and basically mash it down and get bio diesel. There are other steps and other products you get out of it but thats the gist. Plus pound for pound it produces more energy than solar panels. You can take that bio diesel and pour it into a generator to run you entire house for a lot less than to install PV solar panels.

  • @ShipMonster Now I understand :D Thanks, make perfect since now.

  • Just an idea Dan, you could stop short about an inch or a little more with the table saw. And finish both edges with a circular saw attachment on a dremel type tool. This way you can make the edges much more precise. Looking forward to the next video...

  • More details on what this is please !!

  • Maybe you should conceder doing some voice over narration for things like this. This video should not be 13min long to explain how to cut a hole in PVC

Also show finished product first and then show how to do it. This way we know what we are working as you go. Finally wouldn't it be easier to just make 2 cuts on the out side edges of your strip and then use something like a dremel to cut the ends

  • Thanks for the videos guys, I loved the Achimedes death ray, I hope your Honda is still in one piece tho! Keep it coming, we need more renewable energy sources, especially ones you can build at home. =]

I know what its like trying to hold two things and film them at the same time, I do some of my own videos where I'm building stuff and it would be so handy having a helmet camera or something similar.

Keep up the good work! Thanks again!

  • Can't you set up a router to do this stuff? Or a Dremel in a jig?

  • Harbor Freight, good place for stuff.

  • those 2 seconds that u showed the cat walk by was the most entertaining part of the vid

  • Another idea is you could have just used a drill and made square ends on both sides, it would have come out cleaner.

  • Hi Dan, enjoy your videos.

I would cut my slot with a router table, you can get a wide slot in one pass.

make a stop for not going past your mark, happy to see you use a mask, i regret not using one in the past. Pvc is pretty inert but at my age can think of nothing but fresh air I want in my lungs, also many wood dust is toxic due to chemical preservatives added to wood.

  • what is the algae panel for anyways? someone explain pls.

  • @30GB Algae is harvested for biofuel and a food source. The oils can be extracted.

Dan, I LOVE your diy videos. They are so complete and informative. Captivating!

  • @30GB To produce algae through recirculation using sunlight. Algae is good for biodiesel.

  • That is a very good video. Thanks!

  • Another great video

Love these just because you hear alot about green science but this is actual examples and hobbiest.

I respect a hobbiest more than a scientist just because you do it for love of the craft not in order to get your next paycheck

peace love and all that shinanigans

  • Ha I was the fist View

  • @zoomerwit1980 NO U!
