  • They are great vocally, and they can act (I've seen them both live), so it's annoying to see this almost emotionless rendition.

  • Skylar <3

  • I keep seeing Georg rfom Spring Awakening and I keep thinking he'll start singing about his piano teacher.... damn you Skylar Astin

  • @kybsings ... I hate to sound mean but did you pay attention to the play (if youve seen it (and if you haven't you should)) the play ends exactly a year from when it started christmas eve 89 to christmas eve 90

  • aaron is good but the guy playing mark is sooooo bad, he can never be compared to anthony. also adam kantor is way better than him

  • wow...the mark sucks

  • @kybsings The millenium goes from 1000-1999; even 1989 would be considered the end of the millenium. "Rent" is set in the late '80s. You can tell because it is set in Alphabet City, which underwent widespread gentrification in the 90s, and the bohemian residents such as we see in "Rent" were displaced.

(Additionally, AZT, which is mentioned in this play as the only real treatment for AIDS, was generally replaced by a cocktail of antiretrovirals called HAART by the late 90s.)

  • @cmgeorge12 --The millenium is basically 1,000 years and even if this were truly set in 1989, that can still be considered the end of the millenium as it is in the final 1% of the time left before the start of the next millenium. Who cares if gentrification had not started yet when the musical was set or if AZT was no longer in use. It's called poetic license and suspension of disbelief for a reason. Stop being such a douche bag.

  • Aaron's voice just gives me goosebumps in this song!

  • nobody can compare to adam and anthony

  • Skylar Astin is trying to hard to sound like Anthony Rapp. I seriously don't know what his actual voice sounds like. In Spring Awakening it's like he was trying to mimic Jonathon Groff and now this travesty!

  • @csteenblok Out of genuine curiosity, what makes you think he was trying to mimic Jonathan Groff, especially considering he joined the cast as Georg a year before Jonathan joined the cast as Melchior? They have two completely different voices and vocal styles, and I've never seen or heard a performance where Skylar tried to imitate Jonathan. One reason I absolutely love Skylar is the fact that the way he uses his voice is so unique.

  • @csteenblok um i'm sorry, but you don't know what you're talking about.

  • I'm sorry but anyone but anthony or neil will just go downhill with this role

  • is it me or are they like next to each other and then like on opposite sides of the stage?

  • Couldn't NPH just have cast himself as Mark? That would've been a million times better.

  • Where hell is the anger? What a wussy performance for both....ugh.

  • I love Aaron Tviet as Roger. He looks so good in that jacket. ;)

  • To close to Anthony Rapp. Good though.

  • Their voices blend really well together. Good pair!

  • thank you for posting!!!

  • he was really lucky to have had a director that has actually portrayed this role.

  • wasn't skylar in the OBC of spring awakening?? and aaron is amazing!!!!!!!

  • @vivalavieboheme14 yess skylar was the original georg in spring awakening. =]

  • Marks camara's too nice. (im a huge Rent head) he's suppost to have a crap crank camara cause they're so poor. it takes place in 1989 anyways

  • @SaYrUdEe It's actually 1999.

  • @ShadowsMacabre no it's 1989 'cuz thats how jonathan larson (creator of rent) set the story

  • @ShadowsMacabre jonathan larson wasnt even alive in 1999

  • @SaYrUdEe I know I was like "what?" But c'mon it's not 1989 so let's just enjoy the amazing show of Rent

  • i was there and i thought it was great!

  • 0:47 ... is it just me or was he thinking of what the next lyrics are? Look at his face. I have nothing against him, but that's pretty funny.

  • @Sinistra76 I think he was trying for comedy

  • @Sinistra76 haha and that's such a no no when it comes to acting. Even if you forget something you never want the audience to know.

  • @bga600 Well, I bet if the camera wasn't zoomed in (like if we were seeing it as if we were actually in the audience) I doubt I would've noticed. But if he actually did mess up the lyrics, well, a bunch of people would've noticed. Myself included.

  • @Sinistra76 haha i noticed that too. he may have had a slight moment of "oh shit whats my next lyric?" but he obviously knew it. or it could have been a characterization he threw in there... it was kinda funny tho :)

  • they seem to have no energy and this song needs energy

  • @byronmc2 I have seen Adam Pascal and Anthony Rapp sing it with less energy during a regular performance, this isn't bad.

  • @byronmc2 agreed... what should we except.. professionalism? yea right...

  • Do you have the whole show or just these few sceens. Ill buy it from you if you have the whole show
