i put down masking tape where I wanted the edges of the road. i then poured plaster onto the styrofoam. just after the plaster had set i peeled the masking tape off. this removed the ecxess plaster leaving a smooth edge.
i think woodland scenics "fine" ballast would work. woodland scenics makes scenery for HO scale and N, and i'm pretty sure the grass, dirt, ballast, etc... will work in both scales.
its amazing how great these old trains can look if you give them the right surroundings...or it may just be cuz the image quality on my camera is shit O_o lolol...no seriously...they do look nice. glad to hear i'm giving u inspiration.

Thanx. its lookin better now that i've finished most of the scenery. i may post a video in the next couple months.
i'm using DC. converting all those Tyco and Athearn engines to DCC would be too much work :D
