@nameofthepen I think this brings us back to the issue we were discussing earlier. The Old Testament was written a long time ago. In The Bible, a lot of commandments were given for the safety and well being of the people living in that time period. Obviously it's ok to eat shellfish now, but back then(not having urgent care), eating a shellfish could quickly get you killed if you were allergic. Same goes for alcohol. Palestinian wine was made for health reasons. Also for Anesthesia

Almost every member that was involved in that was excommunicated. Mormons weren't the only ones involved in that horrendous act. Take the rules our missionaries have to follow when in the field, for example. Some of them may seem extreme, but they work.

@TadaHanJan Actually, having been a Buddhist monk myself, Buddhism is not regarded as a religion. It's more of a way of life. Pure Theravada Buddhism, which is what I follow, has no such concept of god. As Buddhism moved Eastward away from India, leaders began giving Buddha god-status out of nowhere. Why? Because as you clearly stated: to govern society. So as a former-monk, I can say that Theravada Buddhism in no way promotes violence. We view Buddha as a social reformer, not a religious man.

There is much history of monks being involved in politics and wars in those countries.
