OK around 5:30 where you see a green and white condo building, that was his building, he lived on the top floor. His place had huge windows, a loft, and even a really nice balcony. Do not ask how I know. The neighborhood is U-District in Seattle, I used to drive past his place every day on my way to work, I'd roll down the window and hold up a peace sign as I drive by, more times than not I already had AIC on the radio. Every now and then you'll see some rockers outside his place, praying.
@MikeBenedict1986 Since I asked you I came across a video of Matt Pinfield announcing Layne's death on MTV news and there's a shot of the condo with the camera panning up to the top of white ones so I'm guessing that's it
@twelthfadora17 yea it gave me chills too. I get that same vibe of depression where i live, and me being a teenage future grunger, I could see where his mind and music came from. Just life around him.
I understand how Layne was one of the best singers and stuff of all time man, but don't wish you were him. You don't want to fall in the footsteps of a drugy
This was a pretty interesting video. It gave me chills thinking of Layne walking the streets like this singing this song to himself almost twenty years ago. Thank you for this. I have a love/hate with this area. It's a very VERY emotional place. I wish I was Layne.
@FiveLiveKru he bought that condo straight out. After he died it was sold for $350k. He withdrew $5,000 a week for his heroin and food expenses, per his accountant. I don't think that's broke. 52 weeks a year x $5,000 per week.....you do the math. Def not broke.
I have been there. Its wierd to know that Layne once stood in the same place you are. I met his cousin once, guy came into my work and had the last same staley that looked and sounded like him. i asked if he was related and said yeah, he lives right down the street from me. I said he was an awesome musician and wished he was still around.
this is really nice. i lived in seattle for 6 years & used to walk around where he lived while he was still alive. i never spotted him but my ex saw him downtown walking down the alley between 5th & 6th. he was so in awe & shock that he just watched him walk by & couldn't speak!
@ETMadScientist hey! yea, it was my ex-husband & it was 1997. layne was wearing a black trenchcoat & was hunched over & looking down, with his hands in his pockets. My ex said he looked worse than ever, just so thin even with all the clothes but mostly he said that his face was really sunken in. My ex took the Mad Season cd to work everyday after that hoping to see layne again & get the nerve to talk to him & see if he'd sign the cd. but he only saw him that one time.
@divinereference soooo awesome would have given anything to see him on time not in concert just on the street just like a normal person soo lucky sweet memory
It's sorta a pilgrimage I guess. Layne was special. I can't blame you for making the journey. It would be nice to lay a rose at his former residence since I don't think he has a grave (as he was cremated).
if i lived there id probebly make a point to drive by the place he lived everyday in memory of him... i just love him so much. RIP Layne. thanks 4 posting.
with those grey streets anyone could get depressed there
