@CallumJ230 I live in Canada and I feel that the rights of a citizen should also extend to the LGBT community (I was rather proud when we legalized gay marriage). However, I don't think that the immigration is a part of why we should be accepting it. There are a lot better reasons for accepting them as part of our identity.

Isn't marriage an institution crafted by the church. I guess church should patent the word or at least trademark it. I guess the ingredients of a marriage are a man and woman thrown together bounded by chains of love, anything else besides this should be termed as a civil union. @G41MCombo even so many religions and religious sects have differing opinions on this. The United Church, some Anglican churches, a number of liberal synagogues, various first nations faiths, forms of buddhism, wicca and pagan beliefs, all support same-sex marriage.

Similarly we don't want to believe in same sex marriages and do not want to encourage them in our place. If you so want to be married move over to these places and get married no one is stopping you.

The thing is, marriage is not just a legal issue, it's a religious issue as well. The U.S. has a separation between church and state. Maybe if that tradition was followed with marriage, it wouldn't be a big deal. If there were two different unions, one religious and one legal, maybe this wouldn't be a big issue. Just a thought.

I guess people have to use the "honor system" because there is no way to detect a gay from a straight by looking at them. Unlike the Blacks who REALLY suffered discrimination.
