Food is food, and I feel bad that I enjoy pigs and cows. Monitors need protien, and no matter what people say, rodents are apart of the balance, as with every other prey animal. So what its on a plate, it teaches memory and manners, and keeps them from consuming the substrate. :)

There is no excuse for a responsible keeper to submit ANY animal to more pain than absolutely necessary. Those ackies would be just as keen to chow down some defrosted pinkies as they are to take live, with substantially less suffering caused in the mouses short life.

Hello, I'm planning on getting another reptile and I would like something bigger than just the geckos i've had so far. I've decided on either a bearded dragon or an ackie. I've always wanted a monitor and i've done tons of research on them but I don't want a big one. I also think beardies are pretty cool and would love to have either of them. Also, whichever one I get i'm going to be building at least a four foot cage. Anyones thoughts please.

This is how carnivorous reptiles work. You feed them meat. Some individuals will not eat frozen food, so you must feed them live food. Even if you are feeding them frozen food, that frozen food had to die somehow. At most, they experience a second or two of pain. They exist to be eaten; it's as simple as that.
