This duet between Kaibavanska and Quivar is so miraculous. I remember seeing it live on PAVAROTTI PLUS. It's one of the best interpertations of this grand Act 2 duet from ADRIANA LECOUVREUR. LOVE TO BOTH!
Amazing Power. I reduce the screen and listen so I did not realize the power in their faces or their stances. Just amazing sound I had to watch for a few minutes.
this was absolutely positively on of the most emotionally charged duets i've ever seen.... and this was the concert version. phenominal! wow my heart is still beating
This is electrifying. What the opera should sound like! Raina - God bless her - can just barely still hit those notes while Florence's voice is completely uninpaired. How sad the Florence has not received her due. She is one of the greatest mezzos of the last generation!
And Raina is one of the greatest Adriana, ever! God bless her, indeed! As far as the high register is concerned, she hits the notes, not "barely", but just the way she likes to, being always true to her character and the dramatism of the moment. Back in 90-ties, she is still incomparable, when expressing the complete gamma of delicate lights & shadings in each word and phrase. This last, desperate cry of hers /sung in full voice!/: "Fuggita! Vile!" gives oneself goose-bumps... My best regards.
In all fairness. Florence is a full ten years younger than Raina. Raina sounds older because she is. That being said, I agree that the great Florence Quivar has never received her due. And yes, she is one of the greatest of the last generation.
What kind of theft are you talking about? There's no such thing in the Grand Art. I can feel here a perfect consonance. The audiance goes crazy. They both give, don't steal.

That's what Opera is, not this Hollywood Thing going on everywhere... especially in the USA!
Opera has it's own language! If you try to change it, it will die and become something else which is not exactely good!!!

io apprezzo moltissimo anche: Tebaldi-Simionato e Olivero-Simionato.

What opera is this from?

"Adriana Lecouvreur" by Francesco Cilea. It is the famous duet between Adriana & Principessa di Bouillon from 2-nd act.

I like Raina very much. She sings very much in the Olivero tradition. To me Olivero is the ultimate great in this repertoire.
