I have the i5 2500k and was wondering if I would be able to overclock without raising temps very much...but I'm only on stock fan at 41 c idle, would it be better to wait until I get a better fan or what? Don't know much about OC.
@reichstag10 There's no actual set limit, it depends on a multitude of variables including, the case you have, the number of fans you have, amount of space surrounding the case, ventilation and temperature of the room etc. You can use liquid cooling if those variables are rather limited, it all depends on the temps you're getting from the internal parts, go liquid cooling if it's running a bit too high
I personally would turn off turbo boost. Are you really going to need it if you are running in excess of 4.0 ghz, i don't think so. I also recommend getting a aftermarket cpu cooler if you are doing overclocking. A cool and stable cpu will go along happly.
someone help please. If i overclock my i5 2500k to say 4.5ghz will it ALWAYS run at that or do i have to activate it when i NEED it? sorry i am a noob. thanks
Another question when i go to the website "Can you run it" to check weather my pc are capable of playing a game. Everything is fine but it says CPU speed is a problem.. Should i5 2500k at 3.3 ghz play Alllll games without a cpu speed problem??
@aznxleon I honestly can't think of any games that would require anything more. Of course, your video card will matter too, but nevertheless. Also, CanYouRunIt isn't the most accurate website to check. Just know you specs, and look up the requirements for whatever game it is you need. :3
@aznxleon It's probably your CPU. Not all 2500k's can go up to the same freq. If it keeps crashing, try increasing the voltage till it stops crashing. Of course, keep Vcore below 1.35V if possible.
I've got this exact setup (i5 2500k, msi p67a gd85) but the "Intel Turbo Boost" option doesn't show up in my BIOS. Totally just isn't there. Any suggestions?
@MrLeogoransson you can however it is more limited. if you do decide to oc then make sure that you do many tests on your tempetures and speed. if you get a new cooler then do many tests on your tempetures and speed
@MrLeogoransson cpuz is a pretty good one. and anything above 90 you should shut off right away, 80 is iffy and 70 is pretty good. and obviosly the lower the better. but befor you do overclock search on youtube and google to be sure of everything befor you start. good luck
@MrLeogoransson That's pretty good... My go beyond 75 degrees with the stock cooler, and I leave my case open for better ventilation... Thus I am getting a Hyper 212 plus before overclocking, you should do the same!
Hi. I'm going to be trying overclocking for the first time when my new gaming rig gets delivered. I'm using the same CPU and a ASUS P8Z68-V LX motherboard and 850watt 80+ certified power source, and am getting a liquid cooling system with a 120mm fan and Tuniq TX-2 thermal compound .The voltage stuff confuses me, I am a little unsure of the danger of screwing it up and what's a safe range. Am I 100% safe going with your settings since I have gone out of my way for cooling and power upgrades?
Sorry, I know quite a bit about computers, but next to nothing about overclocking, and am terrified my computer is just going to up and die a horrible death because I played with something I shouldn't have (but the huge increase in performance here has made it too enticing not to overclock.)
I have some questions like could I take my i5 2500k to 4.5ghz with asrock p67 extreme4 gen3 and arctic cooler freezer 13pro? How many Vs should I put?
does running 3DMark11 basic (cuz it's free lol) give you ARTIFICIALLY high results?
Like the FULL edition would have higher amounts of work for your CPU and GPU to work so you'll get lower FPS right? I'm wondering cuz i'm ran basic and got about P5563 with 3.3GHz i5 2500K and GPU overclocked to 900Mhz core and 1350Mhz mem and GPU voltage 1.165V
Sapphire Radeon 6950 2GB.
I'm still running IBT to see what my core i5 can handle THEN i'll overclock cpu/gpu and run 3DMark11 again.
@Smoblikatt You got the cream of the crop. I have one that does 4.8 at 1.425, and one that does 5.0 at 1.435. those are the lowest I could get them stable and the 4.8 one would just freeze at 4.9+. Good pull mate.
@darkmist255 i would say the 2600k or 2700k depends on how much u want to spend :D. 2500k is best for gaming, but if ur gaming and 3d modeling get either the two above. But google to make sure. Also get a good gpu :D
My cores are 40-47C and I haven't even overclocked it, havent either bought an aftermarket fan though, is this normal? Cause u got that little C even with overclock

@don2xify No, people usually only overclock the turbo. Then when the processor is idle it drops to 1.6GHz, and under load it goes up to the turbo of whatever you OC'd it to. My 2500k never goes to the stock 3.3GHz.
@don2xify That's generally how it's done, yes. I'm not sure about the pros or cons on clocking the stock speed vs the turbo, but I and everyone I know just OC the turbo frequency.

@Gtargui Yeah, third core is usually 1-2* warmer than the rest, and core 0 is like 5-10* cooler than all the others. Seen it on almost every SB setup.
are u using stock cooler? because stock cooler speed max alowed by intel is 4.3GHz...For reach to 5.2 stable u have to have a new cooler...but its safe etc
THANK YOU I have the same rig as you this is a big help thanks. keep up the good work you should do on an OC'ing GFX cards. BY the way we ahve a comunity called =[T*F*A]= come by TFA-HQ.com
@PSCreativeGaming So question, how important is hyperthreading? I might build a new computer for both gaming AND video editing, along with 3D modelling as well, and is it worth like another 100$ for hyperthreading?
@darkmist255 Games do not currently take advantage of hyperthreading, so the 2500k is as good as, if not better, than the i7 2600k for games. Plus, it is cheaper.
By the way, on CPU-Z on "CPU" tab the core speed is usually on 1600MHz (whereas I was OCing to 4.3GHz), is it because I didn't disable the TurboBoost?
im buying this msi motherboard ( p67a gd65) , i7 2600k , and corsair h50 liquid cooling. i trust all your videos could u please do a video on how to step by step overclock it being safe like u did with the 2500k? i would greatly thank u :) good videos!
Hey really good videos man keep up the good work! I got a question, between the 2500k and 2600k, i heard theres pretty much no difference in gaming, is that true?
@iiiAmBryan If you are runnig most games there should little diffrence between i5 2500k and 17 2600k. However in some new games like battlefield 3, having the i7 does make a suprising difference due to it's Hyper-Threading Technology
im planning on oc'ing it to 4.7ghz with a cooler master hyper 212 evo @ 1.3-1.4v ...wat i wanna know is...how long can it run stably without blowing up ...even if sometimes i use it even for 24hr+ purposes...i want my setup to last for about 2-3 more years :(...please guys suggest
What are the few things you are disabling? Is it important that we have to disable them? How do i know when i have to increase the voltage? Should i just clock to 4.0 / 4.5'ish the first time without increasing the voltage and then see if it runs, and if it wont start up i should increase the voltage? Is increasing voltage and cpu frequency all i need to overclock? ive never overclocked in my life and i have no clue about it, i would appreciate it very much if someone could help me :)
I need help, info, a direction of guru's that can advise on *underclocking*. We wish to build a server that will be powered by an M4-ATX (250Watt) 12VDC power supply and run from Solar / Wind / battery. Currently we are looking at the Intel i5 - 2500K CPU. But if there is a better option let us know! We wish to be able to drop the Wattage consumption down as low as possible during low reserve power situations. Contact us at shazam.zapto.org click *Contact* for info.
i tried H50 and it sucks for OC, now im using prolimatech super mega with two 140mm fan, more than 10 degrees lower temp while full load on i5 2500k, 4,5GHz@1,315V and 55 celsius - during prime95 torture
I'd say you have the right idea about overclocking. Burnt CPUs are useless and have a high likelihood of ruining a good motherboard too as they can cause a direct short in the CPUs power distribution system.
@deutscher678 that depends, just because one i5 2500k can clock stable at 4.7ghz, doesnt mean the next cpu will. wether its the same cpu, or same entire rig, no two cpu's or gpu's overclock the same as eachother. some cant go as far, some can go further. just the way it is
@StickmanStig i dont belive you'll get any more fps becouse i belive that this cpu at turbo boost speed can manege to work any graphic card at full performence. You may only get more fps if you maybe have multiple graphic card and than you would be low on cpu power.
@robinZBG of course the 2500K is better. it has an unlocked multiplier. you bought a 2300 so that tells me you dont overclock which is fine, but if you do, the 2500K is a beast. and it doesnt only benefit gaming.
Hi guys i can't find this on the net but if i get tighter timed ram (8-8-8-24) then will that affect my cpu overclock? i've heard that more dimms = less overclock, so I was wondering if this will affect it?
Recently my computer stopped working, and one of their troubleshooting methods was to load an overclock profile in the BIOS. My computer is at 4.5ghz now, but I want to get it back down to 3.3ghz.
When I do an optimized settings reset the computer wont launch past BIOS. Any help is valued greatly!
@PcWizKid i'm gonna buy a 2500k and a msi p67 gd65 ... can u send me a pm, where u show me which voltages i have to set on which level ?! tyvm :) greetz raawr31
@KivVer08 LOLOL i5 2500k is way better for gaming then the i7 2600k. 2600k is used for rendering 3d graphics and video uploading. You plan on being a graphics designer or uploading mass amounts of videos... Get the 2600k, wanna OC for max CPU gaming i would get the 2500k
@zachyboy13528 LOLOL that's not true! the i7 2600k is actually better than the i5 2500k, because it has hp (hyper threading). This doesn't make a lot of difference, but still you assumed the i5 2500k was better and that's not true!
@MrRonypony Lol hyper threading is for rendering and uploading, there are almost no games that require hyper threading >.< and if you look on the side of the box of the i5 2500k and the i7 2600k you'll see that the I7 has a lower graphics setting then the i5, i believe the i7 is 2000 the i5 is 3000. I5s are better for gaming, all benchmarks prove it.
@MrRonypony I5 2500k intel hd graphics 300 I7 2600k intel hd graphics 2000
also the i7 2600 is limited to 3.8Ghz with Turbo Boost where the i5 2500K can be overclocked past its turbo mode frequency, if ur not planning on overclocking CPU then its not a big deal.
@BladeStrikes I have an i5 2500k and a gtx 460. and it destroys games. Theres only 3 games I cant max out. Witcher 2, Metro 2033, and Crysis. But I can max Crysis 2 and get 35-45 fps. I have mine oc'd to 4.5ghz.. The gtx 460 is best for its price. cant go wrong.
@MsGamingking are you having lower frames?? or more? because i had it at 4.2GHZ with OC Genie and had good frames but when i OC to 4.5GHZ i had lower frames on some games, and i almost put all specs on of vid, my mobo is a MSI P67A-G45.
x43,loadline calibration ,high(50%) but i recomend low for msi Motherboard user,i disable all turbo and those eist c6 c4report and anything that will afect my clock speed for yours 1.3-1.325 normaly will be enough but if it fail crank it up to 1.34-1.35v hope it works
guys do u think 2500k@4ghz is siutable for overclocking ? like will there be any problem with it ?

are u using stock cooler? because stock cooler speed max alowed by intel is 4.3GHz...For reach to 5.2 stable u have to have a new cooler...but its safe etc
BGamerPCReviews 3 months ago
How high can you go on stock voltage and how long can you keep it on 4.7 GHz without damaging it (if you even can damage it on that frequency)?

@FlameSnipe hey dummy hyper threading doesnt do shit in games.2500k is best gaming cpu.2600k is for vid editing. Okkk
PSCreativeGaming 3 months ago 22
@PSCreativeGaming So question, how important is hyperthreading? I might build a new computer for both gaming AND video editing, along with 3D modelling as well, and is it worth like another 100$ for hyperthreading?
darkmist255 2 months ago
@darkmist255 Games do not currently take advantage of hyperthreading, so the 2500k is as good as, if not better, than the i7 2600k for games. Plus, it is cheaper.
bennemann 1 month ago
By the way, on CPU-Z on "CPU" tab the core speed is usually on 1600MHz (whereas I was OCing to 4.3GHz), is it because I didn't disable the TurboBoost?

@ImAKillZoneFan chances are an overclocking software will be included, but it might not be the same as the one shown in this video.

Hey really good videos man keep up the good work! I got a question, between the 2500k and 2600k, i heard theres pretty much no difference in gaming, is that true?
iiiAmBryan 4 months ago
@iiiAmBryan If you are runnig most games there should little diffrence between i5 2500k and 17 2600k. However in some new games like battlefield 3, having the i7 does make a suprising difference due to it's Hyper-Threading Technology

i need opinion from a few ppl please on this....
im planning on oc'ing it to 4.7ghz with a cooler master hyper 212 evo @ 1.3-1.4v ...wat i wanna know is...how long can it run stably without blowing up ...even if sometimes i use it even for 24hr+ purposes...i want my setup to last for about 2-3 more years :(...please guys suggest
durjoymukherji 4 months ago

Would one of Corsairs H series water coolers be good for OCing?
god2many 5 months ago
@god2many yes
killersaad 5 months ago
@god2many
Yes water cooling is normaly more effective at dispersing heat than a normal fan.
LAWSON189 4 months ago
@god2many
i tried H50 and it sucks for OC, now im using prolimatech super mega with two 140mm fan, more than 10 degrees lower temp while full load on i5 2500k, 4,5GHz@1,315V and 55 celsius - during prime95 torture
radoskasan 4 months ago
I'd say you have the right idea about overclocking. Burnt CPUs are useless and have a high likelihood of ruining a good motherboard too as they can cause a direct short in the CPUs power distribution system.

can you make an overclock on i5 2500 without "K"? cuz i am getting a load of 29-44% and a temperature of 40-56 Degree Celsius.

in the next 4 months im getting a new rig
with intel core i5-2500k with an Asrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 @ Noctua NH-C14
do you think im able to run 4,7ghz stable to?
deutscher678 5 months ago
@deutscher678 that depends, just because one i5 2500k can clock stable at 4.7ghz, doesnt mean the next cpu will. wether its the same cpu, or same entire rig, no two cpu's or gpu's overclock the same as eachother. some cant go as far, some can go further. just the way it is

MCWalkthroughs247 5 months ago
@StickmanStig i dont belive you'll get any more fps becouse i belive that this cpu at turbo boost speed can manege to work any graphic card at full performence. You may only get more fps if you maybe have multiple graphic card and than you would be low on cpu power.
McBeast22 5 months ago
@McBeast22 not true. some games benefit from higher (4GHz+) clocks. even at HD res and 4xAA.

is the 2500k alot better than the 2300? Cause I think my 2300 is pretty good :)
robinZBG 5 months ago
@robinZBG of course the 2500K is better. it has an unlocked multiplier. you bought a 2300 so that tells me you dont overclock which is fine, but if you do, the 2500K is a beast. and it doesnt only benefit gaming.
jurassic512 5 months ago
Hi guys i can't find this on the net but if i get tighter timed ram (8-8-8-24) then will that affect my cpu overclock? i've heard that more dimms = less overclock, so I was wondering if this will affect it?
TheWoWRevelation 5 months ago
Recently my computer stopped working, and one of their troubleshooting methods was to load an overclock profile in the BIOS. My computer is at 4.5ghz now, but I want to get it back down to 3.3ghz.
When I do an optimized settings reset the computer wont launch past BIOS. Any help is valued greatly!

Sould I get i5 2500k 4.7ghz OR i7 2600k?
i7 is £77 more than i5, its for gaming?
HU55UN1 6 months ago
@HU55UN1 No!
The i5 is only 1% slower in gaming only in video rendering the intel core i7 i a lil bit faster!
KivVer08 6 months ago
@KivVer08 LOLOL i5 2500k is way better for gaming then the i7 2600k. 2600k is used for rendering 3d graphics and video uploading. You plan on being a graphics designer or uploading mass amounts of videos... Get the 2600k, wanna OC for max CPU gaming i would get the 2500k
zachyboy13528 5 months ago
@zachyboy13528 LOLOL that's not true! the i7 2600k is actually better than the i5 2500k, because it has hp (hyper threading). This doesn't make a lot of difference, but still you assumed the i5 2500k was better and that's not true!
MrRonypony 5 months ago
@MrRonypony Lol hyper threading is for rendering and uploading, there are almost no games that require hyper threading >.< and if you look on the side of the box of the i5 2500k and the i7 2600k you'll see that the I7 has a lower graphics setting then the i5, i believe the i7 is 2000 the i5 is 3000. I5s are better for gaming, all benchmarks prove it.
zachyboy13528 5 months ago
@zachyboy13528 hp does makes sence in games like BF BC 2...

@MrRonypony I5 2500k intel hd graphics 300 I7 2600k intel hd graphics 2000
also the i7 2600 is limited to 3.8Ghz with Turbo Boost where the i5 2500K can be overclocked past its turbo mode frequency, if ur not planning on overclocking CPU then its not a big deal.
