  • nice work mate, best tutorials around imo.... i could listen to you talk shop all day!

  • Thanks a ton man, great video and very informational! I forgot the voltage regulator on the first one being stupid and blew transistor regulators Q2, Q3. I found the part number as #SD637 but can't figure out what the cross reference to it is. If ya have an idea let me know! They are ridiculously expensive online for the exact one. But thanks again! The second table turned out great!

  • Huge fan of your 1200s videos, your videos have helped me a lot. I was wondering if you knew how take apart a 1200 tone arm, I recently had the aluminum cabinets of my 1200s powder coated white and I would love to know how to take apart my tonearm so I can send those pieces to get powder coated white to match the cabinet. THANKS!

  • @BPMgear Thank you for your feed back and kind words.

Sure, I did a video on how to service the height adjustment, that will show you how to safely take the tone arm apart, the bits you can take apart anyway.

I wouldn't take the Gimble apart, there are lots of tiny bearings inside there and you need specialised tools to do the screws up to a specific torque, or the tone arm will never work properly again.

That video will help you take it apart safely.

    Thanks again for your comment

    Nice One ; )

  • @viperfrank watch?v=_xJs7J1RViU

  • part#'s for the v.reg.....but no resistor #s..........what bands does the resistor you installed carry please?

thanks viperfrank!! ------BIGUP on jungle vinyl choice in the vids too by the way!

  • @TornRuggedAudio35 It depends on the current of the LED that your using, you have to use that little utility that I showed you to calculate the resistor value for your LED. but a 100 ohm (brown Black brown) normally does for most LED's running at between 25 - 30mA.

Hope this helped and thank you for your comment.

    Nice One ; )

  • @viperfrank, hi james my pitch green led is dead, can you help me to fix it (where to buy a new, ... ), i'm sure it will be usefull for many guys, sorry for the writing i'm french, thanks a lot for all the vids. big up from Paris.

  • @vladnyrki Thank you! I will be doing a video on this, I will cover where to get the LED and the type of LED to get.

Also your writing was fine, I understood all of it.

Thanks for your comment and your kind words.

    Nice One ; )

  • Hi there, just for the record, Maplin have now discountiuned those LEDs. I have got a couple of alternatives, so I'll post up results :) Dunk

  • @DunksterP Oh have they, ah maplin are a pain in the arse sometimes.

you should have no trouble getting LEDs form eBay.

Thanks for your comment and your feed back.

    Nice One ; )

  • good job man....congrats...

  • @LeoVallenDj Thank you, I'm glad you like the video. I will hopefully be doing some more videos soon.

    Nice One ; )

  • The target light is stuck and won't go down, i managed to get it down with some pressure but then the turntable power went off and wont turn back on again. Is it possible the broken target light is interfering with the power of the turntable?

  • Absolutely amazing video/tutorial. I will give this a go!

  • great and useful videos. I am Italian and my turntable running at 220v these components also work on my own? there are changes to be done. thanks very kind

  • Great video, good tutorial, many thanks.

  • Excellent tutorial! I did this mod and it worked great. I find you need at least a 5000 mcd led. Lots brighter than the stock bulb.

  • how do you change the outlet of a Technic 1200 mk2

  • I took a used mk2 for about 300euros and thanks to you i made it like brand new.

I regulated the loosy fader, changed the cables, the power switch, the burned pop up light and cleand the plater!!! you are the best of the best!!!

the best tutorials ever made on youtube!!! thanks!

  • Can i use the same type of led for the 33-45 rpm buttons and on of switch?

    I got a pack of 10

  • can i use the same led for the 33-45 rpm buttons?

  • Sick one mate I'm doing my mod tomorrow .

what does one need to get as far as parts in order to do the light where the on off switch is located in to a bright as hell LED !??

  • BADASS HOMIE!! thanks my light just went out a few weeks ago and now i know how to change that!! THANKS!!!

  • Hi James, thanks you so much for all your tuts. They are so helpful for my friend and now his technics turntables has blue LED lights too. Without your knowledge he had couldn´t do this. Have save your channel here.

    Thanks a lot!

  • Hey James, I've enjoyed your videos and I see you're very knowledgeable with Technics. Maybe you can help me out. I just purchased a set of technics and one light is out. It's a 20VDC. Will you tell me what voltage LED, what size resistor and what size transistor i need to install the need LED in the place of the old light. I'm not a electrician and everybody I ask has no idea.

    Thanks, Shane

  • I made it!!! Thanks a lot for this tutorial!!! Now I enjoy my tunned 1200MKII

  • excellent vid. very helpful & thorough.

One suggestion: at the final step, instead of soldering the wires from the voltage reg. to the wires to the lamp, add some quick connects so that next time the LED needs to be replaced there will be no need to cut wires & solder them back together.

  • him8 great vids u are the man but do u actually need the voltage regulator ive just bought a led kit and ive been told its not needed !!!????

  • Nice one!!

  • Viperfrank you are truly one of a kind and brilliant at giving tutorials! Your tutorials are the best and are better than any other tutorials I've seen anywhere. All of your vids have everything, from being full of all the information you could possibly need and even humor, you are the man viperfrank, thank you again! I'm going through the process of fixing numerous things on 2 of my turntables and you are the person guiding me through the way.

  • can you just use any LED or dose it have to be like a technices one sort of thing coz am re painting my decks an just wonderin if i can use the LED i have bought thanks keep uploadin learning grate stuff of thes vids :D

  • HI viperfrank!

I can only replace the bulb with another, removing it from the stylus?

    thanks

  • i did the steps correct but now my table wont turn on

  • Hey James. I dont want my target light to be really bright. Do i just need to chose a LED with a lower MCD value??

  • Hello, can you give me the value of the resistor you used?

    Or at least the colors

    Thanks

  • Great video, thanks

  • @section23promotions no problem thank you for your comment and your feed back.

    nice one!!!

  • The small screw (the one that holds the spring assembly in place) of the target light in my turntable won't budge. It seems to be placed in very tightly and applying a lot of torque with a small screwdriver in such a small area is very difficult. Got any ideas on how to remove it?

  • Nice one, great video again! £3.50 from Maplins did both decks for me today.

One related tip - while you've got your lamp out you could take the plunger out and regrease it with Tamiya Friction Damper (Hard) grease. Gets it back to that factory slow pop-up.

  • im looking for a video for the other LED as well, is there one? ive been looking around and have not seen one. Also, unbelievable tutorials, im looking to do just about all of these in one shot with a pair of 1210's and i have the utmost confidence in all these tutorials. Im also trying to hatch an idea of internal rca outputs that then connect flush on the side of the table with female outs, so all you have to do is plug a generic set of rca's in at any time and have virtually no wear. ???

  • Will your tutorial work on a "Technics SL-1200M3D"?!

  • Great vids mate!

Just finished putting in the LEDs and changed the audio cables, and ive never held a soldiering iron in my life before today. Cheers

  • hi mate, my leds say the forward current is 20-30m so what should i put on the led calculator the forward voltage is 3.0-3.2 also, thanks for your help and great quality videos!!!

  • Truly awesome video, I learned so much from it you have no idea, you covered all the bases and then some. I can't wait to run into Radio Shack tomorrow and grab everything I need. I have a little twist on the LED's though, I'll see about making a video response to illustrate when I get it done.

    Thanks again

  • Hey man thank you, thank you, thank you, this is exactly what i needed to give this ago. this is by far on of the best set of videos of seen on youtube and you a great person for doing it. are you by chance thinking of doing any other videos for the strobe, 33/45 and pitch controles?

  • Great set of videos, i just finished modding my two 1210s they work perfectly thx alot for such a great step by step explanation, u re just brilliant.

  • Srsly... AWESOME VIDS!

  • easy mate,

so i've got this target light assembly off... tried the small screw but its carving just got messed.. have i wrong phillips 00x50 screwdriver: or what

  • @160610705 alright got a bit frustrated, but now i've got one deck done and the other with messed screw is working with original light anyway so its damn wicked tutorial thnx mate you're of rare kind!!!

  • nice can i use radioshack needle-tip precision lubricator to oiling the center spindle for my technics sl-1210m5g the operating instructions apply 2 or 3 drops every 2000 hours of operation . radioshack part number 64-2301a in the usa . needle-tip precision lubricator oil can i use this oil?

  • what is the maplin order code for the resistor ?

  • @nathancrumb1 it depends on the value but here is what you do the order code is M- and the value of the resister, so for example if you had a 68 ohm resister the code would be M68R if it was a 200 ohm resister than thats M200R if you have a 47 killo-ohm resister thats M47K. the resister i used, if your using the same led as me was a 68 ohm resister M68R.

hope this helped and thank you for your comment.

    nice one!!!

  • My pitch fader LED has burned. It don't lit anymore. What is the correct LED to replace the old one? Thanks

  • awesome guide --thanks for putting out such a detailed video --the last time I tried replacing that pop up light on my own shorted the circuit board--cant remember what stupid thing I did wrong. This video will definitely help me to do it correctly.

  • Changed both on my Mk 3's and it worked perfectly! Thanks for the great tutorial!

  • I don't have a Technics and do not intend changing the target light, BUT !!....I enjoyed every bit of your informative video's, and learned a few things along the way, even a brain damaged baboon would be able to accomplish this task thanks to your excellent tuition. well done mate !!

  • Nice one!.. One of my target lights hasn't worked for years, going to change both of them soon for LED's thanks to your guide... Just 1 thing, I would of thought it would be better to use a flex rather than a single core wire for the connection to the target light assembly as it's frequently being moved... so just wondering why you recommended single core?.. Anyway thanks again for the guide.

  • Once again brilliant. One question.... where did you get the LED, Resister, and Voltage regulator? What are the specifics of each part? Is there a kit with all three parts available? Again thanks for the great vid.

  • Thanks for posting this great Video. You said you were going to fix the popup speed of the target light. Have you done a vid for that ? I need to do the same.

  • I was going to do this but there's a much simpler way of doing it. Just get the non soldering kit and you can replace all led's w/o even soldering anything.

  • very nicely done! thank you! you just save me lot of money. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

  • Gonna give this a go!

  • @mikeg123 wicked, you should be fine, good luck.

    thanks for your comment.

  • @gtorres44 now thats what i like to hear, im glad it worked and thanks for your feed back. im loving mine since i did this, its so much brighter, if only technics decided to do this in the first place and just charge an extra £5 on top, id happily pay that extra £5.

    thanks again for your comment.

    nice one!!!

  • Great job mate, thank you very much indeed for sharing your knowledge with everybody.

    cheers.

  • hey i just wanna know if u heard about panasonic B3AEA0000008... its the technics blue led.... do you know if that led is the same voltage or almost as the led you are using?? cuz i cant find any stats on these.... thx and good job by the way!!

  • my turntable (M3D) is 110V: does it make any difference? Thanks.
