The lorry driver may not have yet noticed the Police rider.
The lorry may have needed to alter his road position to pass slow traffic just as the rider commits to the overtake.
Let me reiterate there can be no criticism of the Police rider but as this is educational footage, he might have explained why no movement to obtain a view up the inside was required.
The rider's position and commentary of why and what he is doing is first rate.
Although I was not riding the road and cannot therefore speak critically of the Police rider, I would have personally obtained a view up the inside/nearside to check for slow moving vehicles (e.g. mopeds or cyclists or indeed pedestrians) prior to the overtake on the white lorry which features towards the end of film.
The two main points to bring from this observation are:
Beautiful, hard to believe he was only doing NSL because it was so fluid. Commentry so nicely paced too. I'd a been jabbering like a fool. I've just saved that to my favorites-along with one of a dolphin that can blow 'smoke' rings under water. LOL
Been out to wales last weekend met a couple of police bikers on the way back who were good fun. they were having a good old play with us. They were on 2 new pan euros. I followed them on my new gsxr 750. Ive done alot of advanced riding myself and instruct a fair bit but im telling you what they cant half hustle when they want to!!!
It is called advanced positioning and you have to be very confident in your riding to do it. It must be 100% safe before you attempt it. Sometimes it does give you a better view of the road.
This is why we are still called Great Britain, because we do things or at least we did do things properly before these left-wing do gooders (A.K.A safety police) put their two penneths in. Sorry guys I just believe having more skilled police (like this one) on the road is better than Gatsos. Yes I am a biker
I dont like the fact that sometimes he was close to crossing into the other carriage way, and sometimes crossing right into it, i dont understand what he gained from it, the corner was quite tight, but he had plenty of time to slow down a fraction and still stop within what he can see.
Also being out on the crown of the road when that van passed, wont the rider get a blown a bit by the van passing in the opposite direction?
not being a fuss pot just wonder what the rationale is
Although this is a great video and shows you how a Police Motorcyclist makes progress, it does not show what he, or she is actually observing on the ground. High hedgerows, limited views etc....
There is no problem in crossing onto the other side of the road, if it is safe to get a better view and make the bend line smoother. It must all be relative to safety, speed and is it wirth doing.
In this clip, I do not know what speed was involved, but at 60 mph, which is the speed limit, I myself would question the actions of crossing the centre line for some of the sweeping bends. I myself can see no point in this clip....
very informative.that's how i like to ride.smooth, unhurried (yet making as much progress as possible & using as much of the bikes manoeuvrability, acceleration, flexibility in the engine & response in the correct gear) & planned ahead as far as is possible with safety the over-riding deciding factor.
i agree with some of the comments re: crossing the carriageway:at that speed there was no need -although i do this myself (usually when overtaking and/or linking checked/cleared bends though).A+ video
The Slow on the road is only advisory and from reviewing the footage, the rider had already made his riding plan, having seen what was ahead. For me the Slow on the road, helps me assess the severity of the next bend. Hope that helps. I will e-mail with a link to POLICE ROADCRAFT a manual we ride and drive to.
I thought I'd seen all of your uploaded videos, then i stumbled across this one.
I was disappointed though to see that "disfiguration" four months ago had written that he was a professional biker and found the video clip to be "stupid and useless" Professional biker or advanced wanker! uhhmmm.
Mr. Bowers
Keep uploading... your message is getting across! Keep it safe guys.....m/f
Fantastic video though commentary was a bit overly focused upon making progress, with only certain hazards being identified. If only we could ride this coolly and consistently all of the time...
Anorther fine example of the perfect lines that should be followed when riding your motorcycle,As others have said Nigel your work on these is invaluable to others my Friend so keep them coming, im amazed at how much my ride outs have been so much more enjoyable since following your lines, great videos KEEP EM COMING.
Magnificent. Thank you Nigel -another excellent example of 'the system' applied in real-time. Some (not me) may raise an eyebrow at the use of the opposite side of the road - they should listen to the riders considerations before he takes up that position. This is a 'class' ride viewed from a unique vantage point.
This is a superb clip! I wonder if the commentary would have sounded so relaxed at the time of riding? Expert class riding is inspirational and great to watch. Keep em coming Nigel.

Big thumbs up from the other side of the pond. A lot of riders would benefit from this type of instruction! Great video, sir.

Excellent video.
There is one thing I would have done differently.
at 1:46... he moves to the overtake position early on the car in front but I would have held that off until the oncoming vehicle passed...

the motorcycle is most stable in the upright position... really?????? idiot

I Have been told Manny times, keep left of the road were possible when not overtaking or turning.
This biker seem to keep to the right of the road, why is this?

Because this is England. The road is reverse.
Cloudofistanbul 2 years ago
Over here we are thought to drive like this, because of the better view over trafic, and being visible to drivers 2 cars behind you.

I ddid wonder about postings this video on Youtube for that reason - Using the opposite side of the road.
I MUST emphasis the following, only attempt it if you gain any advantage and ONLY if it is 110% SAFE to do so.
