I will always remember hearing this song while driving on I-10 near Indio, CA, my wife and I on our way to our honeymoon, and it came on the radio.
15 years later, it came on the radio again as I was driving home after our divorce hearing in court. It hurt, but over the years I've learned how lucky I was to be away from her. I miss who she was, and remember when I hear it, but who she is is nobody that I would want to know.
I don't care what anyone says, John Denver was one of the most talented MUSICIANS ever! Listen to Placido and then listen close when John starts singing. I almost think John sings better! People who dislike John Denver JUST because "eeewww it's John Denver" are sad, sad people. I don't care if you like his music. But you should respect his talent.

I used this rendition as an example of simile for my English classes. I feel now that I have desecrated its power by lowering it to a level of being dissected . Many students shed a tear on its introduction. I should have used something else.

Always loved this song, but only just read that John wrote it for his wife when they were getting divorced. So sad. A (now long ex-) girlfriend included it on a cassette she sent me (which gives you an idea of how long ago it was!) 24 years later, it still makes me cry.

She told him "no, that she still felt very blessed by it, but it was "Perhaps Love" a song he recorded w/ Placido Domingo that was her favorite.

My brother was killed in a car accident along with two others in Manchester, England in 1995. This song was our family choice for the funeral for a loving brother, father and friend. I was introduced to this song, in, of all places, a biker bar in Daytona, back in the '80s, by, of all people, a grizzled, fortyish, truck driver. When the song ended, he pulled out a revolver and fired it into a display over the bar. Nothing ever came of it, but I sure remembered the song! Really happened! };-]

When this song came out in 1982, I was in Madrid studying, and also teaching Design in a female high school "Cardenal Spinola". I still remember my sweet Spanish students gave me the lyric of this song, and we sang together. It has been a long time, I wish them well. My darling father passed away on Monday. He loved this song very much and we will play it at his funeral. I hope in heaven he is reunited with the sons he lost, his beloved brothers, sisters, mother and father... And I hope John Denver might sing it to him. As a child we all used to love J D's TV show. I was introduced to this song, in, of all places, a biker bar in Daytona, back in the '80s, by, of all people, a grizzled, fortyish, truck driver. When the song ended, he pulled out a revolver and fired it into a display over the bar. Nothing ever came of it, but I sure remembered the song! Really happened! };-]
