Nobody realizes how fast RX8's are. If you make it past 100, the 8 will absolutely take off and leave you. Rotaries keep climbing where the conventional engine starts slowing down

If you think that a civic Si or a dodge caravan which by the way run quarter miles only 0.7 seconds apart can beat a HR 350z with forced induction and that makes it better than you need help. The gas saver civic SI it does 21/29 (city/highway MPG) in a 2.0 L compared to a 3.5 L 350z 17/24 MPH wow what a difference huh!? It costs 22 gs and now the 370z even costs 29 gs starting and I got my HR 350z used with 10k miles for 17 grand. It weighs 2900 lbs vs Z 3200 lbs wow so much lighter!? stfu

He also worked with honda to make a crz that held all of its hybrid perks and fuel efficiency, but also made over 500 hp when you got on it hard.

the 8 waste as much gas as the 350Z, both 8 and Z gets around 18/19 to the gallon in the city. and the reason it cost more than a civic because its more luxury and more sporty. we have a 1.3 and we still have more HP than any civic. whats the max HP on stock's like 197hp and thats the SI. correct me if im wrong i dont know anything about hondas.
yeah if you get it with HFP sport muffler it brings it up to 200 but thats not that the wheel. 1.3 isn't big sure but it's rotary which is diff. class. I just don't see an 8 or a Z being worth it's money.

Civic vs a turbocharged RX8... you said Civic isn't a performance car but your RX8 got smoked. I've seen countless FWD cars putting down over 600hp or 400hp. Again it's not the drive train only, get over it.

It's a turbocharged RX-8 I'm looking at the RX-8 specs and it doesn't come stock with it. Race race race it's all you think about, fucking A dude it's a drag down a street. Drive train doesn't matter so much specially if it's from a roll dumb ass, shut up already about front wheel drive or rear and admit your over priced gas guzzling RX-8 got raped by some little Civic. 8 sec. Civics out there.
Mazda isn't to bad, don't get me wrong I like the car, but it just would be something I would BUY. If someone gave it to me, hell yeah I would be pumped about it. Plus rotary engines can be made into some of the fastest ass cars ever, but as an everyday car RX-8=gas guzzler.
On a track maybe, I know in a drag 350z isn't putting down enough power for it's big ass and only 2 seats honestly 350z is a failure. RX-8 is good with corners but sucks in drags as well. I look at mainly drag numbers as I live in Ohio, no tracks in like 50mile+ near me. Slap a turbo on Si or RSX and you'll be leaving 350z and RX-8 behind when it comes to drag.
Okay if the 350z is such a failure I want you to tell me why the HR 350z STOCK that is not without a turbo makes 13.1-13.3 second quarter miles with trap speeds of upto 107-109 MPH Does that seem like a failure to you? A civic SI would only touch a HR 350z or 370z with ass load of boost. A civic Si stock makes 15.2 that sounds like a success story to you right? Get the fuck outta here idiot.
Gearing, lay of the land, and driving style are the 3 most important factors in mpg. Changing gears earlier, accel slower, driving slower, and keeping car tuned, ie, tire pressure, filter, and plugs tuned will help a fair amt too. The problem with the 8 is only 20mph/1k rpms when most cars are 24+ in top gear. its good for accel at speed but not for mpg. Gearing is very important.
Just think about a 1.5L 3 rotor turbo producing 400 hp and about the same with torque from adding a rotor to a 10a. You would have the power needed, torque people want, and gear it so that it pulls about 2k at 80 and you have a car that will get around 30mpg and will run with just about any car. You could also do the rotor cut off at low demand just as some cars do piston cut off at cruise. Its a matter of R&D when it comes down to it.
easy for 6th gear use a .7 instead of a .8. I have had several neons, one with a .72 fifth and one with a .81 fifth. the .72 gave 6 more mpg at hwy speed than the .81 due to pulling much less rpms at 60. my current neon gives 27 ave. My old neon with a .72 gave 33 ave. my current 8 gives about 21 ave with 24 or so on the hwy. 60mph @ 3k rpms. with a taller 6th, could give much more. Gearing has a lot to do with mpg.
are you sure that rx-8 was even T/C'd? i couldn't see an I/C. the front license plate was still in the stock location. if he was T/C'd, do you know how many lbs./boost he was running?
should rename. turbo civic vs N/A rx8. That is what it was. turbo the 8 and see how the outcome is after that, and use more than 6psi of boost as well.
Should rename: VTAC + turbocharger + stroker kit + full exhaust - back seats - windshield + shopping cart spoiler + chrome tail lights VS RX8 off the show room floor.
i raced a TA a couple of weeks ago at highway speeds and he didnt not pull on me at all over 110 mph. I thought he gave up and I hit the brakes and he went sailing by in another lane still had it floored. The 8 in this vid is not turboed or it is an auto running like 3#s of boost.
No way that was a Trans Am man. I know the RX8 is under-rated, but my cousin in Houston has an LS1 Trans Am and he took me for a highway run in it. There is zero comparison between an LS1 TA and an RX8 in a straight line. You must have raced a Firebird or maybe some dumb TA clone? I know your rex is pretty modded (not even to its fullest in bolt ons) but if you did indeed race an LS1 TA, I need to start shopping =)
it was a TA. Had the hood scoop and V8 on the side with dual exhaust with the big oval shapes. Regular firebirds have either one exhaust or 2 small pipe exhausts. I was topping the hill with my daughter and he was hehind me and wanted to pass but I floored it and he got on the right lane but was in my blind spot after we got going past the hill. It was between exit 24 and 26 on I-20. I will say that I raced a TA from a standstill and everytime I had to shift, lost about a length.
On top end, I was right with him from 100 to 130. It was funny cause when I let off, he came out of my blind spot and we pulled in the middle lane between a vette and a cobra, go figure. My daughter was laughing so hard about that. If your plugs are fairly new and your coils are working well, at highway speed, the 8 is not bad. did outrun an RT charger going 145 on I85. Was pulling away from him slowly at 130. had 2 other guys in the car with me to verify too.
I know the LS1 creates crazy torque, but I also know it falls quickly on top end. You must have raced a bone stock TA. The LS1 responds insanely well to mods. My cousin has an SLP loudmouth cat-back on his. I suspected he had something else since he killed a cammed LT1 Camaro on the highway and was door to door with an LS2 GTO with only known mod being a NASTY sounding exhaust. I love me a rotary, but I was bred a Chevy guy =)

Ford also experimented with a rolling valve. supposed to be more efficient but has yet to be used in a production car. Rotaries have inherent VTEC but without the valves. It has primary ports then secondaries and that was in the 60s. Now, the 8 has more ports for timing advantage. It has 2 main, 2 secondaries, and 2 dedicated to high rpms above 7200. Just think, it only took 14 years to implement variable timing in a rotary compared to decades for a piston. VTEC idea came from the rotary.

Rotary speaks for itself too :) means Unique. add another rotor and any v8 will look smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror. right amt of money, 4 rotor will put anything to shame with a decent tune. with a turbo and good tune, a 2 rotor will do well. Only one problem with a v8, never can say you have almost 200hp/liter :)
True, and a lot of Honduh guys brought that up when I had my V8 T-bird. But I always came back. 100 horsepower per liter is cool and all, but if you're only packing 2 liters of engine does it really matter? Horsepower/liter is bragging rights and nothing more. At the end of the day, 200 is still less than 300 no matter what way you cut it.
true but the potential of a rotary is yet to be had. Go to the rx8club page and you can find many rotaries that have 300+ at the wheels with a turbo and some tuning. Something to be said with such a little engine producing so much power the way it does. When someone really develops the rotary, it can be capable of so much more. Just gearing for sixth can change mpg. If it were .7 instead of .84, would get over 25 mpg closer to 30. top end is almost limitless.
Yeah but the problem isn't the power, its producing that power reliably. A rotary may be able to produce well over 300 horsepower to the wheels, but an LS1 will make the same amount of power more reliably. I love my rotary, but V8's are still on top when it comes to balls to the wall performance. But you're right, the rotary has only been out for maybe 50 years. Not enough research.
there is a guy that works with me and has a turbo 2 with 180k miles and it is all original. I have heard of 1st and 2nd gen having over 300k and still original motor and no rebuild. Its all in how you take care of it and drive it. With r&d and modifying the cooling system if you use FI that most dont do with the FDs.

Mazda has never been owned by ford. The rotary is way more advanced than a piston engine. and VTEC is not anything new. Honda didnt invent it just like the rotary was not invented by the japanese. VTEC has been used in motorcycles and generaters for decades but was perfected by honda for use in cars just as mazda is trying to perfect the rotary. Just as computers are getting better, the rotary is getting better with age as well. HEMI was invented by Ford of all people. Not sure if anyone knew.

Funny thing too about Honda is that people say how reliable they are. I have owned 3 of them and they have faired no better than any other car I have owned. I have had to replace cv joint, water pumps, and engines/transmissions just as in any other car. I believe that unless you get a lemon, a car will last as long as you keep good care of it. People can say what they want but I have owned just about every major make except nissan/infinity. I cannot rightly say anything about them yet.
Yep. My 1st car before my rex was a 1995 Ford T-bird LX. Had a 4.6L SOHC V8 (Mustang GT engine, which according to everyone should be the most unreliable POS on 4 wheels). The odometer stopped working ~4 years ago at 168K miles. The average person drives ~15K miles a year. Seems pretty reliable to me. Sold it to my cousin but he doesn't know a connecting rod from a MAF sensor so its fallen into disrepair =(

wow i say honda takes toyota any day with one exeption the supra. and they had the VVT-I or w/e and boost. and a good tranny (on the TTE only) ive only seen a couple hondas take supras to school and those were the nasty ass k20s that were bored boosted and over a 150 shot on nitrous.. and the supras only on like a t68 turbo with minor work..

RX8 isnt a drag car to begin with.. Throw some turns in there like a real race, and watch the lil vtec bitch choke. Secondly, if that rx8 "turbo" as it says it is...(haha), then it isnt tuned right. A correctly tuned SFR Turbo, even GREDDY turbo can produce well over 320hp at the crank and even put out 300Whp. BTW, can anyone hear a BOV on that RX8...? haha, fuckin ebay kit. That RX8 needs a better driver.
vtec is high end and not for drag racing. CI and low torque are for drag. That civic is FI as you can hear the BOV. The 8 was just NA and still did well considering. Tell you what, find you a 4 rotor rx7 or 8 and go pick on it and it will leave you in the dust without thinking twice. They are rare but out there. 4 rotor = 720 hp.

If you think that a civic Si or a dodge caravan which by the way run quarter miles only 0.7 seconds apart can beat a HR 350z with forced induction and that makes it better than you need help. The gas saver civic SI it does 21/29 (city/highway MPG) in a 2.0 L compared to a 3.5 L 350z 17/24 MPH wow what a difference huh!? It costs 22 gs and now the 370z even costs 29 gs starting and I got my HR 350z used with 10k miles for 17 grand. It weighs 2900 lbs vs Z 3200 lbs wow so much lighter!? stfu

He also worked with honda to make a crz that held all of its hybrid perks and fuel efficiency, but also made over 500 hp when you got on it hard.

the 8 waste as much gas as the 350Z, both 8 and Z gets around 18/19 to the gallon in the city. and the reason it cost more than a civic because its more luxury and more sporty. we have a 1.3 and we still have more HP than any civic. whats the max HP on stock's like 197hp and thats the SI. correct me if im wrong i dont know anything about hondas.

yeah if you get it with HFP sport muffler it brings it up to 200 but thats not that the wheel. 1.3 isn't big sure but it's rotary which is diff. class. I just don't see an 8 or a Z being worth it's money.

On a track maybe, I know in a drag 350z isn't putting down enough power for it's big ass and only 2 seats honestly 350z is a failure. RX-8 is good with corners but sucks in drags as well. I look at mainly drag numbers as I live in Ohio, no tracks in like 50mile+ near me. Slap a turbo on Si or RSX and you'll be leaving 350z and RX-8 behind when it comes to drag.

Gearing, lay of the land, and driving style are the 3 most important factors in mpg. Changing gears earlier, accel slower, driving slower, and keeping car tuned, ie, tire pressure, filter, and plugs tuned will help a fair amt too. The problem with the 8 is only 20mph/1k rpms when most cars are 24+ in top gear. its good for accel at speed but not for mpg. Gearing is very important.

Just think about a 1.5L 3 rotor turbo producing 400 hp and about the same with torque from adding a rotor to a 10a. You would have the power needed, torque people want, and gear it so that it pulls about 2k at 80 and you have a car that will get around 30mpg and will run with just about any car. You could also do the rotor cut off at low demand just as some cars do piston cut off at cruise. Its a matter of R&D when it comes down to it.

easy for 6th gear use a .7 instead of a .8. I have had several neons, one with a .72 fifth and one with a .81 fifth. the .72 gave 6 more mpg at hwy speed than the .81 due to pulling much less rpms at 60. my current neon gives 27 ave. My old neon with a .72 gave 33 ave. my current 8 gives about 21 ave with 24 or so on the hwy. 60mph @ 3k rpms. with a taller 6th, could give much more. Gearing has a lot to do with mpg.

i raced a TA a couple of weeks ago at highway speeds and he didnt not pull on me at all over 110 mph. I thought he gave up and I hit the brakes and he went sailing by in another lane still had it floored. The 8 in this vid is not turboed or it is an auto running like 3#s of boost.

No way that was a Trans Am man. I know the RX8 is under-rated, but my cousin in Houston has an LS1 Trans Am and he took me for a highway run in it. There is zero comparison between an LS1 TA and an RX8 in a straight line. You must have raced a Firebird or maybe some dumb TA clone? I know your rex is pretty modded (not even to its fullest in bolt ons) but if you did indeed race an LS1 TA, I need to start shopping =)

it was a TA. Had the hood scoop and V8 on the side with dual exhaust with the big oval shapes. Regular firebirds have either one exhaust or 2 small pipe exhausts. I was topping the hill with my daughter and he was hehind me and wanted to pass but I floored it and he got on the right lane but was in my blind spot after we got going past the hill. It was between exit 24 and 26 on I-20. I will say that I raced a TA from a standstill and everytime I had to shift, lost about a length.

On top end, I was right with him from 100 to 130. It was funny cause when I let off, he came out of my blind spot and we pulled in the middle lane between a vette and a cobra, go figure. My daughter was laughing so hard about that. If your plugs are fairly new and your coils are working well, at highway speed, the 8 is not bad. did outrun an RT charger going 145 on I85. Was pulling away from him slowly at 130. had 2 other guys in the car with me to verify too.

I know the LS1 creates crazy torque, but I also know it falls quickly on top end. You must have raced a bone stock TA. The LS1 responds insanely well to mods. My cousin has an SLP loudmouth cat-back on his. I suspected he had something else since he killed a cammed LT1 Camaro on the highway and was door to door with an LS2 GTO with only known mod being a NASTY sounding exhaust. I love me a rotary, but I was bred a Chevy guy =)

Ford also experimented with a rolling valve. supposed to be more efficient but has yet to be used in a production car. Rotaries have inherent VTEC but without the valves. It has primary ports then secondaries and that was in the 60s. Now, the 8 has more ports for timing advantage. It has 2 main, 2 secondaries, and 2 dedicated to high rpms above 7200. Just think, it only took 14 years to implement variable timing in a rotary compared to decades for a piston. VTEC idea came from the rotary.

Rotary speaks for itself too :) means Unique. add another rotor and any v8 will look smaller and smaller in the rear view mirror. right amt of money, 4 rotor will put anything to shame with a decent tune. with a turbo and good tune, a 2 rotor will do well. Only one problem with a v8, never can say you have almost 200hp/liter :)

But I always came back. 100 horsepower per liter is cool and all, but if you're only packing 2 liters of engine does it really matter? Horsepower/liter is bragging rights and nothing more. At the end of the day, 200 is still less than 300 no matter what way you cut it.

true but the potential of a rotary is yet to be had. Go to the rx8club page and you can find many rotaries that have 300+ at the wheels with a turbo and some tuning. Something to be said with such a little engine producing so much power the way it does. When someone really develops the rotary, it can be capable of so much more. Just gearing for sixth can change mpg. If it were .7 instead of .84, would get over 25 mpg closer to 30. top end is almost limitless.

Yeah but the problem isn't the power, its producing that power reliably. A rotary may be able to produce well over 300 horsepower to the wheels, but an LS1 will make the same amount of power more reliably. I love my rotary, but V8's are still on top when it comes to balls to the wall performance. But you're right, the rotary has only been out for maybe 50 years. Not enough research.

there is a guy that works with me and has a turbo 2 with 180k miles and it is all original. I have heard of 1st and 2nd gen having over 300k and still original motor and no rebuild. Its all in how you take care of it and drive it. With r&d and modifying the cooling system if you use FI that most dont do with the FDs.

Mazda has never been owned by ford. The rotary is way more advanced than a piston engine. and VTEC is not anything new. Honda didnt invent it just like the rotary was not invented by the japanese. VTEC has been used in motorcycles and generaters for decades but was perfected by honda for use in cars just as mazda is trying to perfect the rotary. Just as computers are getting better, the rotary is getting better with age as well. HEMI was invented by Ford of all people. Not sure if anyone knew.

Funny thing too about Honda is that people say how reliable they are. I have owned 3 of them and they have faired no better than any other car I have owned. I have had to replace cv joint, water pumps, and engines/transmissions just as in any other car. I believe that unless you get a lemon, a car will last as long as you keep good care of it. People can say what they want but I have owned just about every major make except nissan/infinity. I cannot rightly say anything about them yet.

Yep. My 1st car before my rex was a 1995 Ford T-bird LX. Had a 4.6L SOHC V8 (Mustang GT engine, which according to everyone should be the most unreliable POS on 4 wheels). The odometer stopped working ~4 years ago at 168K miles. The average person drives ~15K miles a year. Seems pretty reliable to me. Sold it to my cousin but he doesn't know a connecting rod from a MAF sensor so its fallen into disrepair =(

wow i say honda takes toyota any day with one exeption the supra. and they had the VVT-I or w/e and boost. and a good tranny (on the TTE only) ive only seen a couple hondas take supras to school and those were the nasty ass k20s that were bored boosted and over a 150 shot on nitrous.. and the supras only on like a t68 turbo with minor work..
but if the same amount of work goes into each car the supra will win hands down. dont get me wrong thso i still love my hondas lol

ok do u think an rx7 is fast? well if u take a stock rx7 WITHOUT the turbo andd compare it to a stock rx8. rx8 has more horse. So just think what the rx8 can do with a turbo. That is so not a turbo rx8 and if it is its an auto which are like 60 less in horse to being with compared to a 6 speed. rx8 is heavily slept on

put a turbo on the rex and see what happens. and what is everyone's obsession with this VTEC bullshit?? VTEC= variable valve timing and electronic lift control, not omg same this as a 50 shot!!! so at like 6K rmps your intake and maybe exhaust valves open a little bit longer.... OMG!!!!! fuck VTEC. that was all turbo+ whatever else hes got. the latest and greatest civics are still struggling with reaching 200hp. RX-8 > Honduh

RX8 isnt a drag car to begin with.. Throw some turns in there like a real race, and watch the lil vtec bitch choke. Secondly, if that rx8 "turbo" as it says it is...(haha), then it isnt tuned right. A correctly tuned SFR Turbo, even GREDDY turbo can produce well over 320hp at the crank and even put out 300Whp. BTW, can anyone hear a BOV on that RX8...? haha, fuckin ebay kit. That RX8 needs a better driver.
Rotary owns a Vtec. Its common fuckin sense.

vtec is high end and not for drag racing. CI and low torque are for drag. That civic is FI as you can hear the BOV. The 8 was just NA and still did well considering. Tell you what, find you a 4 rotor rx7 or 8 and go pick on it and it will leave you in the dust without thinking twice. They are rare but out there. 4 rotor = 720 hp.
