The density of cherry is lower indeed. I asked Fumitaka Saito to make the recorder in cherry wood, because it has a more soft sweet sound (thats typical for wood from fruit trees). There is still another little difference with other copys of Ganassi recorders. A lot of builders today follow the measurements who are based on these from Fred Morgan (who added some small differences). Saito tried to return again to the original measurements.
Thank you very much. The recorder I played is a Ganassi alto in G (A=466 Hz). It's made by Fumitaka Saito (he lives in Amsterdam). It's made from cherry wood.
Now I see hear the difference between 440 and 466....adds a certain rich, lush sweetness in the upper register not found in a G tuned to A=440. Is the density of the cherry relatively low say in comparison to boxwood? And who did you study with? Any recordings on the market?
