Shota was a brave albanian woman who fought together with men. She cut her hair and dressed in mens traditional clothing. She was admired and respected by all albanians as she was the first woman to become a legend. And we are all proud of her. Her story was past down from generations. She inspired albanian artists to write and sing songs about her. She will always be seen as an icon of bravery, leadership and beauty.

@BlizzardRoach The Shota is a traditional wedding dance from Kosovo &Albania.Usualy the village elder dances with sword to show his leadership and village unity. In Albanian culture the village elders are well respected for theirs wisdom and leadership which is shown in this dance. Unfortunately I dont speak any Albanian so could not translate for you any lyrics but I had pleasure to learn these dances and Albanian culture. :))))))))))))

You are right, we use accordion (is that what firzamonika is?) often now because the dancing is so modernized, but traditionally it was done on curle, gajde, or pipez with tambura (sharki) and kaval (fyll) and tupan. It's great how our Albanian brothers are preserving their folklore so authentically, but it makes me sad how ours is succumbing to modernization :(

And there are subtle differences in the style, too. With the valle, the movements tend to be more complex and rigid, and include the upper body, with twists and arm waving. The oro tends to be very simple, and the upper body usually isn't incorporated. I have to say, because of this, the valle is definitely more interesting :D Paqe, vella.
