I know that you may laugh , but I heard this song as a young boy and dreamed to sing it to some special woman in my life. Never happened ....just a hopeless romantic. This song will always remain my most favourite in life.Thank you for posting.
I am the lead singer Brian O Shea's cousin. His mother (Ellen) was my mother (Jean's) sister. His brother Micheal still lives in Port Glasgow. I was in primary school when this song came out and used to brag about having a famous cousin but none of the kids in school believed me.
Only want to say great lyrics and such a lovely tune, could almost move one to tears especially to day 14th Feb. am on my own but I am thankful 4 all the past valentines days.!!
The lead singers stage name was Brian Keith, was also with The Congregation, he now teaches young singers in America
His name is Brian O Shea his family home was 16 Woodhall Terrace, Port Glasgow, now demolished, i lived in 3 Woodhall Terrace, Port Glasgow, now gone as well, anybody from the port remember Geordie Clerk from Number 19 Woodhall Terrace, what a great guy geordie was, what about wee gundy heh heh heh, a gay day right enough
My name is David Sharpe, memories are made of this!!
thank you, jeanette - LVEMEDO - for this great share!! It's an AWESOME song which i've never ever heard. and yes, i will share it with toni!! thank you, classyladyuk, for posting!! five stars!!
Thanks for posting this as I've wanted to hear it for ages but could not find it anywhere. It's a purely commercial thing but the lead singer - which one was he? - has quite a strong voice which would have suited grittier R&B material.
I was looking for another song of this band: I don't know it's the title of the song, but it contains the words "speak to me so tenderly".
I used to send a postcard for an radio-request to radio 'Veronica' (Holland)but due to incomplete adress the card arrived many years later and the song played..... many yaers later.
and we all know that Nigel Olsson went on to international stardom as the original drummer with the Elton John band, and since 2000 has been back with E.J playing and sounding better than ever.
Great song. the keyboardist Paul Raymond went on to greater success with UK hard rock band UFO after a spell with Savoy Brown, selling out US staduims and a string of chart albums under his belt. Still plays with them now and again
For a while, Brian played with Screaming Lord Sutch in his band and also with the bands Big Balls (really!) and Great White Idiot. He sang on the original studio recording of 'Jesus Christ Superstar'. As far as I know, though, he never had any more actual hits.
Brian was lead singer with the Congregation and in 1971 they had a big hit with 'Softly Whispering I Love You'. He now lives in Las Vegas with his partner and they run a music store. He has reverted to his real name and still does session work
Wow. Back in 69 I used to listen to PP's album. Then they disappeared without leaving a trace. But I still remember their songs: Genevieve, Never My Love, and the stunning Mrs. Grundy. Thanks for this memory.
Plastic Penny comprised vocalist Brian Keith, bassist Tony Murray and keyboardist Paul Raymond, along with guitarist Mick Grabham and drummer Nigel Olsson. Their debut single, a cover of The Box Tops' Everything I Am, reached No.6 the U.K. in 1968.
After their 1969 album, Currency, the group went their seperate ways. Paul Raymond (Chicken Shack), Tony Murray would join The Troggs and Mick Grabham would later join Procol Harum).
Paul Raymond on the far right in pic, ended up in UFO and Michael Schenker Group. Great musician

A tremendous tune! It was played a short while ago on Brian Matthews' 'Sounds of the Sixties' show on BBC Radio 2.
I haven't heard it for ages and always thought it was Long John Baldry singing.

Mick Grabham later became the guitarist for Procol Harum replacing Robin Trower.
MrBertstown 3 years ago
@MrBertstown Mick Grabham was a good choice as this track sounds very much like Procol Harum in fact i'd love to hear Procol do this.
waverley66 1 year ago
@waverley66 I absolutely agree.I also wondered , if Procol Harum did not "borrow" some style from this masterpiece.
