Hello, and to my fellow students.i do agree with you Some what yes but i can understand their usage of them typically. A few have been interesting for me but i'm easily amused.
@AnalyticsVideo I hate Wayne State, its the worst school in the country (legitimately). I am transferring to the University of Michigan. A real university.
Thank you Meta, this clarifies a lot! With the increasing narrowcasting rate of the (new) media, this path in analytics will certainly be vital for the survival of many companies.
It's certainly true that recommendations based on analytics - known as recommendation engines - have been around for some time. Netflix did not originate the concept. Yet they have obtained patents, so at least in the eyes of the US Patent and Trademark Office, some elements of their process are novel.
I have worked with many retailers who improved sales with analytics techniques - not limited to the method described in this video. Their data is not mine to share in public, though.
shoulda went with the whatYouOughtToknow netflix video...At least he's funny, and cute...;)

Anyone else find it ridiculous how we have to watch random YouTube videos as part of our WSU learning?
Fail.

Vadim,

A very interesting explanation, and probably a revelation for many people.
But is it really new? I first saw this kind of recommendations in Amazon.com years ago. I believe imdb.com uses the same method.
Also, Meta, if the point of your video is to make companies invest in analytics, can you demonstrate their sales "before" and "after"?
