Okay, but now you have four "flaps" sticking out/up that can get caught on things and re-ripped. Can another patch be put on top to make it seamless?

Save yourself a lot of money. But this and you will not need to send off you rug to a professional repairer. (They will use the same stuff!) But you can do a really good job yourself. And use the rest of the glue to fix your gumboots, trainers and waterproof clothing. Extremely useful and good value!
