  • If there was one person in the history of existence that I could bring back to life, it would be her

  • You ever wish you could go back in time and tell her and her Dad not to get on Bar Harbor Airlines Flight 1808?

  • The U.S Government killed samantha!

  • Such a beautiful girl!!!

  • Да, в России её помнят.

  • SAMANTHA YOU WAS A HERO HERE AND ELSO ON THE SKY

  • she's the kind of role model kids should turn to.

not the ones we have now.

  • I was a baby when Samantha died in the plane crash.

  • Samantha (1972-1985) sould've been 37 going on to 38 years old

  • I think she just did what suppose to do at our Earth.. like all other talant people who early leave us. RIP

  • I toze pomny Samanthu , ona navsegda ostanitsy v moey pameti....

  • So sad that she has gone

I remembered her during 80s. I was a teenager at that time. i was wondering and keen to know whether todays American kids and teenagers knows about her.

  • i have never heard about her what happend?

  • @jenniferp68 she died with her father and 6 others in a plane crash on August 25th, 1985

  • Did she actually write a book??? I didn't know that... What is it's name?

  • Samantha, I read about you today, I born the same year you did, 1972. you really touched my heart. and you will be always in my mind as a hero of peace. So sad you left too soon, so sad.

  • So sad that she has gone

I remembered her during 80s. I was a teenager at that time. i was wondering and keen to know whether todays American kids and teenagers knows about her.

  • i would have given her the tube steak.

  • Samantha, all post-Soviet republics remember you with love.

You touched the hearts of every Soviet citizen! It is very sad that you died very young.

    We will always remember you.

  • OMG that is so sad she was only 13. This is my first time i heard of her, i read her biography on Wikipedia site wanted to bring peace in the cold war era with United States and the Soviet Union and earned the America's Youngest Ambassador, she was a American Hero!! that is just a tragic that she died in a plane crush at 13. Why the good have to die. I make tribute videos for child actress Heather O'Rourke little girl from the Poltergeist films she died from a illness at the age of 12 years old.

  • Such a rare thing to see a dedication to one of my most favorite little heros... Thank you for making this tribute to her... I can still remember seeing the article in the newspaper, about her death and that was the first time I had even known who she was... Every single August 25th since then, I still say a prayer for her and her father and for her family.

  • I miss you Samantha . . .

  • Thank you very much for this tribute for Samantha Smith. I remember this story very vaguely yrs ago but I am so glad to learn the details now. This story will always be relevant & important & proves how one person, a young courageous girl, can affect great changes in this world. It is so sad she died at age 13.

  • Samanta,Russia Love and Remember you!!!

  • 'For it might end you know, in my going out altogether, like a candle'. - Lewis Carroll - Alice in Wonderland.

  • So beautifully done. Thank you.

  • sad...

what's the name of the music underground?

  • US and probably most powerful nations in the world need and will always need to "fabricate" an enemy. A 11-year-old girl goes to URSS and writes a book about it. And Russians, guess what, were nice people!!! Probably both US and URSS were for the war. I don't know to which extent Samantha knew what everything was just about. She was a child. And all the sudden fame. But her interest in not having a war was genuine. As many others who preached against the war, she was silenced.

  • the govt have more important things to deal with than silencing a teenager. She died in a plane crash - being famous doesn't mean that she was anymore immune to death than those who die in planes every year

  • she has the same name as me my name is samantha smith also

  • VIDEOTIMEMACHINE > "You guys are idiots."

No, you're the idiot for thinking anything else. If Samantha Smith's death was an accident, it was the greatest coincidence I've ever seen. She was speaking out effectively against the cold war at exactly a time when Ronald Reagan was trying his hardest to stir it up. Thus, Ronald Reagan and his war-mongering ilk benefited from her death, hence had a strong motive to see her dead.

  • the CIA killed her

  • shadedmuse > "the CIA killed her"

I agree. Someone in our government killed this young lady and I think Ronald Reagan, or someone on his staff, was behind it, at least at some level. And it really saddens me that I can so very easily think my government capable of that.

  • You guys are idiots.

  • but like why would they kill a her? She was just a little girl? Don't get offensive please I am curious to learn why.

  • Aleksei5055 > "why would they kill a her?"

In addition to that said in my previous message, Samantha went to the USSR to prove Ronald Reagan wrong (not as evil as he said), gaining positive attention world-wide for both her cause and the USSR. At same time, polls indicated many world-wide were starting to fear the USA more than USSR, an impression enhanced by her efforts. Ultimately, I believe Samantha went directly against Reagan's hard-line cold war policies and paid the price for that.

  • thats really scary to think our government would kill a little girl especially reagan, i thought he was suppose to have been a super nice guy.

  • Aleksei5055 > "thats really scary to think our government"

At the time, our government's military posture was based on a premise of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD), with two superpowers ready to lob thousands of nuclear weapons at each other. Anyone, including Reagan, "saber rattling" in that environment, risking all our lives, was not a nice guy. That was Samantha's message to Andropov, and by extension Reagan - lost on the latter who stepped up, not reduced, the dangerous rhetoric.

  • so she didn't like reagan? She just didn't want a war right and thought it was Russia that might start it??

  • Aleksei5055 > "so she didn't like reagan?"

Don't have room here to explain all. Samantha wasn't against either man, but instead afraid of the growing cold war rhetoric - most she heard in USA focused on how evil Andropov was. She wrote a letter to him, but the contents were applicable to either man. After her evidently satisfying visit to Russia, she toured around the USA speaking out against the cold war and growing militarism. That placed her at odds with Reagan.

  • so she was killed by Reagan or someone that worked for the government because Reagan wanted the war and she didn't? Sorry to keep asking questions but Im still confused about why they killed her.

  • Aleksei5055 > "why they killed her"

Again, just don't have room to explain. An answer to your question could require pages. The basics are here in my previous messages. To that, must add an understanding of the mentality and fanaticism of the cold war, growing fear around world of nuclear war, how and why Reagan fed that, how Samantha's actions empowered growing opposition world-wide, how various world leaders responded, and why Reagan was likely threatened by that.

  • so then would it be safe to say that Reagan was for the war and Samantha wasn't so he killed her? i'll stop bothering u with questions now lol thanks for responding tho!!

  • Aleksei5055 > "Reagan was for the war"

Not what I'm saying. Reagan wasn't "for war," but for a more aggressive, hard-line, stance against Soviets, including saber rattling, aggressive military enounters, buildup of missles in Europe & Asia, new weapons technologies, and more. He thought it the right thing, but it was a highly dangerous, unstablizing, game at wrong time (USSR moving away from hard-line militarism). Don't know if HE killed Samantha, only that his position greatly benefited.

  • ok that made things way easier to understand. So no one really knows then if the crash was an accident or not. I think if the government did have something to do with her death than thats totally messed up because she was just a kid. Thanks so much for explaining all this to me and having so much patience with all my questions. =)

  • RIP Samantha

    We all love you!

  • Some people come into our lives and quickly go. They awaken us to new understanding with the passing whisper of their wisdom.

Some people make the sky more beautiful to gaze upon. They stay in our lives for awhile, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are never ever the same.

If I know what love is Samantha, It is because of you.

  • I thank you for making this video, not because that she showed the world the Soviet Union was not as evil as the US Government has profisized but because it takes courage to someone who your government discourages as evil.

    On behalf of all Communists.

  • I was in grade 7 and 13 years old when the sad news reached us in sunny South Africa, that time in our lives we did not actually grasp the full meaning of what you did but we mourned your loss. Today I believe in " children must be seen and HEARD!" Will always have a place in my heart for you. RIP little one!

  • Thank you, Samantha. For all, what you did. Rest in Peace.

  • I remember reading somewhere that after Samantha's trip to Russia, she said that "The kids in Russia are no different to us." She had learnt at a young age what so many adults can not.

  • I remember Samantha and the letter she wrote. Her spirit and what she accomplished will go on forever. I am glad that there are memorials to this wonderful person. It is heartbreaking, however, at the same time.

  • I was a young man in college when she rose to fame. I was so saddened when I heard of her death. RIP Samantha...I remember your impact on the nation well.

  • Bravo, well done. I have posted this on my myspace page. I will never forget her, Michael

  • Thank you for sharing with all of us this beautiful photo essay of Samantha Reed Smith. She was truly a remarkable young person. She was inspirational, and a true hero for peace, friendship and understanding, someone that young people today can emulate. Samantha showed that even been young, you can still make a difference, and she did just that. Sadly we will never known what she could have achieved, if she was still alive to today.

  • it's a sad thing to see the good die young. but it goes to show that no matter you age, race, or gender you can still make a difference.

  • Very nice of you to show to the world this brave girl. I`m from Bulgaria and I was made a BG version of one of the sites for her
