My absolute favourite song ever. Looking for videos I've found this version. I love and respect Zeppelin as the pioneers of metal along with Sabbath, but in my humble opinion Jimmy Page's playing is not suited for a song like this. For classic Whitesnake with Sykes u need raw power and technique. I wonder how Dough Aldrich plays this. I've seen them with Reb Beach and it was fantastic. But of course a different style and technique from Reb. But Page is the original master
Come on guys, you really like this solo. I like Page, but geez... I could play that, but that Vandenberg solo is just out of my league. And don't tell me the phrasing of Page's solo is remarkable in this performance. Just because your a household name, doesn't make you turn everything you touch in gold. Listen to it again for those who liked this solo and tell me again straight in the eyes you liked it... I respect him for what he did with Zep, definately paved the way for others.
Wish I would have seen them perform live... What a team of legendary talent! They seemed to work really well together and looks like they had a lot of fun.
Wtf, has Page waited so long for? All these years he could have gotten back with Coverdale but with a complete band this time round. Jones on bass. Drums: Bill Ward? The Great Paul Thompson?
@jamesmaro Look, we all have an opinion okay? I'm not even saying this because Page is a bigger name. I truly think he's the best overall player and composer. And just because a player shreds doesn't mean they're awesome. Buckethead? Please...That is just noise. I can actually do that. Its nothing but loud noise and a bunch of random notes. Besides, Page is older here, in his prime he would've annihilated the performance. Vandenberg is obviously much younger than Page here. Think about that...
@jamesmaro A silly analogy, but: Whose walk would be better-- the girl who can take 30 steps a second, in a complicated pattern; or the chick who swings and sways along making all the blood rush out of ur head to... well, other parts of ur body, while making your heart skip a beat and you start drooling?
I don't know why people are giving Jimmy or David a hard time, two legends of music decided to work together for awhile and have fun. Jimmy did a fine job, its interesting to hear him play something different for once.
Any one who still doesn't understand that Page had lost the plot back then just needs to watch the '88 live rendition of Blues anthem. John Miles is quality. Page's guitar solo should have started an Amy Winehouse style exodus from the place!
This is a mish mash of two different styles. Pages guitar style is completely different. Page is improv genious. Brown sound. Whitesnake metal is polished and technical. Page is not a technical guitarist. Coverdale is an amazing studio musician. His vocals aren't cut out for the rigors of live performance. Check out Coverdales unplugged sessions. There you will see the man shine.
I know Vanderberg guitar solo, and I'll just say it's not better than Page here. It's just kind of different styles. Page is more blues-based. Vanderberg, kind of pyrotechnist. Who is better... it doesn't really matter.... in fact it's only a matter of taste.
Page must have been Damn uncomfortable playing this material.

on second thoughts page's solo was pretty good, way better than what coverdale deserved !!

you apparently haven't heard the original version with Adrian Vandenberg, he kinda puts Page to shame on this one.
