All of the 'community' types who were die-hard Obamaphiles will have a VERY rude lesson in the role of campaign finance, when the Obama FCC overturnes the previous FCC's decision, with respect to white space. Why do you think the Beyoncés & Chris Matthewses were so gushy about Obama? Their masters in the NAB and other media lobbies threw more money at Obama's campaign than Google, Microsoft, &c.--they'll get their money's worth.
Fantastic.I applaud what Google is doing. I am a filmmaker. I don't seek to make money from my films. I just want to get the out there. Freeing up white space and giving more people access to the internet means more viewers for films. I like that idea. And it doesn't just mean an advantage for film makers but gives people access to the internet who otherwise may not have been able to have it. The internet is information, communication and education. Enable this, enable world communication.
I don't think you understand the concept of a boycott. If you stop using a free service, you're not boycotting the company that provides it.
In response to your claim, according to the FCC, white-space network devices will be *required* by design to sense microphone signals and work around them, taking care of that problem. Google is not ignoring the problem, and your claim is baseless.
First off, that technology is not going to work properly. You call my complaint baseless - well I have 30 years experience in the production industry and I am pretty damn sure in all of those years I have a good handle on how wireless works.
I know for a fact that a handheld device that is supposed to sense a wireless mic will be ok - when it is only having to sense a few wireless items....
What happens when there are 200 plus wireless devices in the area....
we typically have anywhere from 75 - 150 wireless mics, ear monitors and rigging systems in a production.
No way is a portable handheld going to be able to track that much wireless signal and also compete with all of the other handheld units in the area as well. It will not work.
The proposed database with a list of wireless in use in an area will not work. The phone is suppose to use it geolocation sensors to relay to an online database... then it will be given a frequency to operate on.
The issue is going to come when there are several units and not enough wireless space.
There will be a day - mark my words - where a handheld user gets on a freq that they are suppose to stay off of and cause interference.
The problem will come when they get on a wireless rigging system and send it crashing to the ground killing everyone that is beneath it.
Maybe once people die - the FCC can figure out that Google is full of it and has lied their asses off to get the white spaces cleared for their take-over.
Google basically lost the FCC airwave auction and wants other airwaves for free. The free the airwaves movement basically wants to control of the airwaves that are presently used for radio microphones. Most people may not realize the importance of this spectrum, but enjoy the benefits of it every day. Motion pictures, TV, concerts, broadway type shows & church services use radio microphones. Without the benefit of these microphones the sound quality of these could go down the tubes.
For years the music industry has used this band for wireless microphones, and has co-existed with the television industry. now big money wants to cripple the music industry taking up all of this freq. spectrum for the use of wifi, with absolutely no mention to us it will render all the equip in our industry useless, funny how they forgot to mention that, think about that the next time you see a concert, broadway show, symphony performance, or even a newscaster that is wearing a wirless lapel mic.
Yeah - pretty interesting that they totally forget the wireless mics and ear monitors in use around the world.
Googles goal is to charge more money to use wireless devices to make even bigger pockets for themselves. Not to make the internet more assessable for the poor and downtrodden.
Is it just me or is this one of the best speakers that I've ever for any tech company. She's not creepy like the I Phone and I Touch guys and she doesn't stutter 5-10 times like most software or video game developers that you hear speaking at shows. no even for an unscripted video blog this isnt good, too many "UH's and UM's" which shows the lack in how she wasn't really prepared to give the speech.
If it is unliscenced this is the begining of cyberization...Originally thought to occur around the year 2700 or so by the japanese. This will create a physical "net". If this is free it will be the greatest thing to happen to the human race so far. Everything will change if we gain a physical net. This is possibly the most exciting thing ever to happen in my life. Dont take this lightly this will unite the country like you have never seen before. This will be AMAZING if it happens.
The term "monopolization" refers to an offense under Section 2 of the American Sherman Antitrust Act, passed in 1890. Section 2 states that any person "who shall monopolize . . . any part of the trade or commerce among the several states, or with foreign nations shall be deemed guilty of a felony." Section 2 also forbids "attempts to monopolize" and "conspiracies to monopolize.
it doesnt matter what your version of monopoly means, in the US there are laws preventing it, your prejudging and fearful of what COULD happen based upon a what IF scenario, again no company would be so stupid to monopolize, your living in a world in which you only see Fortune 500 companies, take a look around, for every fortune 500 company there are at least 1000 competing companies.
and lets not forget how your a paranoid skitzo who thinks google books was meant to monopolize amazon (oh wait there still around) oh and how could i be so blunt in forgetting google MAPS ah yes they monopolized the GPS industry now didnt they?
youtubers believe me over you because I use analytic evaluation, your just pumping rhetoric unequivocal arguments into a convo, and oh by all means lets not forget: NEW YORK DAIRY COMPANY, SWIFT & CO, SOCONY-VACUUM OIL CO. indicted under the sherman act
dont ever mention freedom again because you have a severe lack of the understanding and meaning of the word, If you can go outside, kill someone, steal, or take anything without repercussions, let alone receive anything without payment or are no longer governed by man THEN will you have freeDOM.
Also, can you make sure everyone gets good or fair bandwidth access? Wouldn't even white spaces have bandwidth limitations in densely populated areas?
Would it be fair to implement bandwidth metering such as a dynamic price per GB at any location based on Adsense-like auctionning of available bandwidth depending on demand.
Also, could law enforcement people be worried about users accessing the Internet anonymously to do illegal things, do you provide a solution for identification?
I strongly believe the spectrum should not be sold to an individual company. This spectrum will allow expansion of wireless broadband internet access to allow more consumers the opportunity to get online. Supporting this campaign makes sense to me!
Seems to good to be ever available in rural as well as urban areas, free no charges? Anyone can access?

Boycott Google and all companies supporting this stupidity.
This will effect every church, concert, and theater or production event.

"License" for spectrum is a kind, rhetorical way of avoiding truth -- Charter Grant of Monopoly to a Corporate Entity.
Why should you care? All spectrum could be free for use and all devices could run on Spread Spectrum Technology, which would block any interference.
Government licences spectrum to control what gets said to the American People.
The time is now for this 20th Century Big Governmentalist control to end.

We can first attest the word "monopoly" in 1534 "exclusive control of a commodity or trade".
The word comes from from Latin monopolium, from Gk. monopolion "right of exclusive sale" from mono- (q.v.) + polein "to sell".
So you ought to get your etymology straight before you appeal to some lame law.
Next, check facts. Local phone service, cable franchises, electric utilities -- all have enjoyed govt licensed monopolies for decades.
Also, check out radioactive waste industry.

Are there any country in the world that uses their TV spectrum for WiFi 2.0 type usage?
Why are some countries delaying transition to digital TV and closing of Analog TV spectrum?
