  • Seems to good to be ever available in rural as well as urban areas, free no charges? Anyone can access?

  • Many service providers will lose revenue from the competition?

  • Maybe the government does not want people to be to informed.

  • its almost as if she believes some of what she says - though I know better. surely, someone put these words in her mouth. adam says hi.

  • Fantastic.I applaud what Google is doing. I am a filmmaker. I don't seek to make money from my films. I just want to get the out there. Freeing up white space and giving more people access to the internet means more viewers for films. I like that idea. And it doesn't just mean an advantage for film makers but gives people access to the internet who otherwise may not have been able to have it. The internet is information, communication and education. Enable this, enable world communication.

  • I don't think you understand the concept of a boycott. If you stop using a free service, you're not boycotting the company that provides it.

In response to your claim, according to the FCC, white-space network devices will be *required* by design to sense microphone signals and work around them, taking care of that problem. Google is not ignoring the problem, and your claim is baseless.

  • First off, that technology is not going to work properly. You call my complaint baseless - well I have 30 years experience in the production industry and I am pretty damn sure in all of those years I have a good handle on how wireless works.

I know for a fact that a handheld device that is supposed to sense a wireless mic will be ok - when it is only having to sense a few wireless items....

What happens when there are 200 plus wireless devices in the area....

  • we typically have anywhere from 75 - 150 wireless mics, ear monitors and rigging systems in a production.

No way is a portable handheld going to be able to track that much wireless signal and also compete with all of the other handheld units in the area as well. It will not work.

  • The proposed database with a list of wireless in use in an area will not work. The phone is suppose to use it geolocation sensors to relay to an online database... then it will be given a frequency to operate on.

The issue is going to come when there are several units and not enough wireless space.

  • There will be a day - mark my words - where a handheld user gets on a freq that they are suppose to stay off of and cause interference.

The problem will come when they get on a wireless rigging system and send it crashing to the ground killing everyone that is beneath it.

Maybe once people die - the FCC can figure out that Google is full of it and has lied their asses off to get the white spaces cleared for their take-over.

  • this has just a snippet of the views of any garbagy fluff that's out on youtube right now, we the concerned need to promote it. :)

  • For years the music industry has used this band for wireless microphones, and has co-existed with the television industry. now big money wants to cripple the music industry taking up all of this freq. spectrum for the use of wifi, with absolutely no mention to us it will render all the equip in our industry useless, funny how they forgot to mention that, think about that the next time you see a concert, broadway show, symphony performance, or even a newscaster that is wearing a wirless lapel mic.

  • Yeah - pretty interesting that they totally forget the wireless mics and ear monitors in use around the world.

Googles goal is to charge more money to use wireless devices to make even bigger pockets for themselves. Not to make the internet more assessable for the poor and downtrodden.

  • Thank you Google

  • If it is unliscenced this is the begining of cyberization...Originally thought to occur around the year 2700 or so by the japanese. This will create a physical "net". If this is free it will be the greatest thing to happen to the human race so far. Everything will change if we gain a physical net. This is possibly the most exciting thing ever to happen in my life. Dont take this lightly this will unite the country like you have never seen before. This will be AMAZING if it happens.

  • "License" for spectrum is a kind, rhetorical way of avoiding truth -- Charter Grant of Monopoly to a Corporate Entity.

Why should you care? All spectrum could be free for use and all devices could run on Spread Spectrum Technology, which would block any interference.

Government licences spectrum to control what gets said to the American People.

The time is now for this 20th Century Big Governmentalist control to end.

  • can you share more info on the pros and cons of the white space and white space "coalition"

  • So we should sign the petition?

  • Its up to you, look at both the pros and cons before choosing.

  • You are awesome!

Can Google please come and help us lobby for freeing the airwaves in Denmark as well?

Are there any country in the world that uses their TV spectrum for WiFi 2.0 type usage?

Why are some countries delaying transition to digital TV and closing of Analog TV spectrum?

  • Also, can you make sure everyone gets good or fair bandwidth access? Wouldn't even white spaces have bandwidth limitations in densely populated areas?

Would it be fair to implement bandwidth metering such as a dynamic price per GB at any location based on Adsense-like auctionning of available bandwidth depending on demand.

Also, could law enforcement people be worried about users accessing the Internet anonymously to do illegal things, do you provide a solution for identification?

  • so.. google wants to use it for free wimax?

  • sounds like that yes
