Those are some big shoes to fill. Oklahoma and Texas both lost quite a few great players so I don't see either one of them winning it all. Bama has a shot I guess. I haven't looked to see who they're losing but Oregon has been very solid for awhile and they seem to be doing some great recruiting so maybe this is their year?
I think Oregon will win the Pac-10, but I hope they don't beat Boise State in their opener! Besides that, it would be nice to see some team other than USC win that conference. I think Florida's the favorite to win the title, because they're returning all their starters on defense. You're right about Harvin, though. Ole Miss will be a contender next season. Jevan Snead is a better passer than Tebow, although Tebow is a better playmaker. The game I'm looking forward to (besides BSU/Oregon and the Red River Rivalry) is Tennessee vs. Florida.
I will agree that Miss will be a contender, Snead is nowhere near Tebow in any statistic...he may have passed more often last season, but tebow was more accurate with both short and long passes. Tennessee/UF is going to be another blowout, Lane kiffin is going to be a nobody in the SEC. I have a feeling that he is going to be the biggest whiner in CFB throughout the season.
Anyway, I don't see any teams right now that stand out as clear favorites. I think the upcoming season could be one of the most dramatic we've seen in quite awhile. Even in the Big 12. There's a lot of talk about Bradford and McCoy coming back but both squads lost several linemen and as far as I'm concerned you can have the greatest QB in the league and if you aren't dominant i the trenches on both sides it's not gonna matter.
Right now all the "experts" I have seen have OU and either KU or Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game. I'll bet that is, at the very least, half wrong. KU is losing three starting offensive linemen and all three linebackers that were the only strong spot on a very weak defense. Nebraska is in a similar boat. Maybe even worse than KU. I'd lay money on Missouri winning the north again. They lost a ton of players too but the talent level of the kids replacing them is superior to KU or NU.

I think Oklahoma deserved to be in the championship game. Utah fans talk about how they beat an Alabama team (that lacked Andre Smith) by 3 more points than a Florida team (that lacked Percy Harvin). Well, the Sooners throttled a TCU team that Utah barely beat. If the Utes want to use an argument like that, then they better look at it from Oklahoma's side as well. Plus, the Sooners had the best offense in the history of college football; more touchdowns than USC, Florida, Texas, and Utah.
OU had the same conference record as Texas. They lost to Texas in the head to head battle. In any other conference in the country that would have sent the Longhorns to the conference championship. Texas got screwed and OU shouldn't have been there. Oklahoma had their chance to prove they were better than Texas on the field and they couldn't get it done. Case closed.
Texas did beat the Sooners, who clobbered Texas Tech, who beat Texas. All of them finished in a three-way tie. There is an argument for the head to head, but where does that put Texas Tech? I look at it from what those teams did against other conference opponents. It isn't even close. 5 straight games with 60 plus points scored. I like Texas, and it would have been fun to see them play Florida. However, I saw that Fiesta Bowl game against Ohio State. It didn't quite convince me.
It did me. I'm a Big 12 fan so I've seen them all season long. OU was a one trick pony. All offense. Texas was tough on both sides of the ball. Defensively they were a far better team than OU. They would have been a much tougher match up for Florida.
Ohio State got a bit of a bad rap because of that first game against USC but that was a bit unfair. The best running back in the country was siting on the bench and the Pryor kid was a freshman playing in his first college game ever.

Florida held them to 14 points, but they also held Florida to 24 points, which is one touchdown less than what Alabama's defense did. Sorry but you have got to be an OU fan because that statement is absolutely not true. Oklahoma State scored 41 points on them during their last game of the regular season. Nebraska and Kansas both scored 30+ points on them too.

I think OU had too much of the "New England Patriots" mentality. But, they did have one of the most balanced offenses I've ever seen. I will say this: Colt McCoy should have won the Heisman Trophy. If I could have cast a vote, it would have been for him. No one carried the weight of their team more than Colt.
Well, I think if you watch the game again it was. OSU was down by 10 late in the fourth quarter of the game and had the ball down inside the 5 yard line if I remember correctly. They were moving the ball at will on OU's defense so there's no doubt they would have punched it in. However, they turned the ball over and that pretty much sucked the wind out of their sails. To me that would qualify as the game being in question because OSU still had every opportunity to win at that point.
OSU was and still is talented. I just think that OU was too much for them overall. Turnovers are a hell of thing. They can take away a team's confidence immediately. I actually thought the final score would have been closer. I guess OSU has to wait another season to try and win bragging rights in the state. Who knows? Maybe they'll finally do it. Absolutely! I'm at a loss as far as who I want to win the Big 12. My stepdad went to Texas Tech, my cousin was born and raised in Austin, and one of my close friends is a diehard Nebraska fan. I've always liked Florida, because I watched their games when I was growing up, and I'm glad they're good again! And of course, I graduated from Boise State, so the Broncos are my number 1, even if they aren't from a BCS conference. I look forward to future debates! 2009 will be memorable.

Judging by this past bowl season, I think Choklahoma needs to find a way to play in the Rose Bowl or have the national championship played there. In my expert opinion Tebow truly could run any offense, wishbone, veer, spread, pro I, no huddle, you name it. If he comes back he may go down as the best college QB ever.

Florida has an O and D in the top 20 in the nation. Oklahoma has an O that is ranked 3rd and a D that is like 60 something. I think our D is ranked 8. Hmmm. I don't know man. A lot of people think the Gators will but I'm not so sure. It really depends on if someone else can step up and pick up where Harvin left off. Those are some big shoes to fill. Oklahoma and Texas both lost quite a few great players so I don't see either one of them winning it all. Bama has a shot I guess. I haven't looked to see who they're losing but Oregon has been very solid for awhile and they seem to be doing some great recruiting so maybe this is their year?

I think Oregon will win the Pac-10, but I hope they don't beat Boise State in their opener! Besides that, it would be nice to see some team other than USC win that conference. I think Florida's the favorite to win the title, because they're returning all their starters on defense. You're right about Harvin, though. It'll be tough to replace him, so that's why I don't think they're leaps and bounds ahead of everyone else. Ole Miss might be a surprise in the SEC. They're underrated for sure!

Ole Miss had a great defense last season. Their offense is gonna have to turn it up a notch though if they're to be considered championship contenders. That whipping they gave Tech was impressive but also somewhat misrepresentative.

Well, it's more of a blue astro-turf. I will say, after being in the drumline and having to practice every day on that field, I would not want to be tackled in that stadium. That turf is rough! Ugly or not, it is unique, because everyone knows the "Smurf-turf."
Ole Miss will be a contender next season. Jevan Snead is a better passer than Tebow, although Tebow is a better playmaker. The game I'm looking forward to (besides BSU/Oregon and the Red River Rivalry) is Tennessee vs. Florida.

I will agree that Miss will be a contender, Snead is nowhere near Tebow in any statistic...he may have passed more often last season, but tebow was more accurate with both short and long passes. Tennessee/UF is going to be another blowout, Lane kiffin is going to be a nobody in the SEC. I have a feeling that he is going to be the biggest whiner in CFB throughout the season.

Anyway, I don't see any teams right now that stand out as clear favorites. I think the upcoming season could be one of the most dramatic we've seen in quite awhile. Even in the Big 12. There's a lot of talk about Bradford and McCoy coming back but both squads lost several linemen and as far as I'm concerned you can have the greatest QB in the league and if you aren't dominant i the trenches on both sides it's not gonna matter.

Right now all the "experts" I have seen have OU and either KU or Nebraska in the Big 12 Championship game. I'll bet that is, at the very least, half wrong. KU is losing three starting offensive linemen and all three linebackers that were the only strong spot on a very weak defense. Nebraska is in a similar boat. Maybe even worse than KU. I'd lay money on Missouri winning the north again. They lost a ton of players too but the talent level of the kids replacing them is superior to KU or NU.

McCoy is returning for the Longhorns, as well as Shipley, and I think they're going to have a better running game next season. As far as the Big 12 North, I have absolutely no idea. I think that field is wide open. It's a weaker division.

I think Oklahoma deserved to be in the championship game. Utah fans talk about how they beat an Alabama team (that lacked Andre Smith) by 3 more points than a Florida team (that lacked Percy Harvin). Well, the Sooners throttled a TCU team that Utah barely beat. If the Utes want to use an argument like that, then they better look at it from Oklahoma's side as well. Plus, the Sooners had the best offense in the history of college football; more touchdowns than USC, Florida, Texas, and Utah.

OU had the same conference record as Texas. They lost to Texas in the head to head battle. In any other conference in the country that would have sent the Longhorns to the conference championship. Texas got screwed and OU shouldn't have been there. Oklahoma had their chance to prove they were better than Texas on the field and they couldn't get it done. Case closed.

Texas did beat the Sooners, who clobbered Texas Tech, who beat Texas. All of them finished in a three-way tie. There is an argument for the head to head, but where does that put Texas Tech? I look at it from what those teams did against other conference opponents. It isn't even close. 5 straight games with 60 plus points scored. I like Texas, and it would have been fun to see them play Florida. However, I saw that Fiesta Bowl game against Ohio State. It didn't quite convince me.

It did me. I'm a Big 12 fan so I've seen them all season long. OU was a one trick pony. All offense. Texas was tough on both sides of the ball. Defensively they were a far better team than OU. They would have been a much tougher match up for Florida.
Ohio State got a bit of a bad rap because of that first game against USC but that was a bit unfair. The best running back in the country was siting on the bench and the Pryor kid was a freshman playing in his first college game ever.

I think OU's defense was getting better as the season progressed. By the time the championship game arrived, they showed up to play. Florida held them to 14 points, but they also held Florida to 24 points, which is one touchdown less than what Alabama's defense did. I agree with you that Texas also would have given Florida some trouble, and Ohio State did play harder in that Fiesta Bowl than they had all season.
Oklahoma put up better numbers in 2008, though. The 3-way tie is really to blame.

Texas needed a miracle to beat Oklahoma State 28-24. And no, I'm not an OU fan. When my Boise State Broncos beat the Sooners in the Fiesta Bowl, I was rioting in the streets along with the rest of Boise. I like the Longhorns and the Red Raiders more than the Sooners, but facts are facts. OU was incredible last season.

What I meant to say was that Oklahoma State gave Texas a hard time in Austin, whereas the Sooners had no problem with them in Norman. Texas' defense is better than OU's, and OU's offense is better than the Longhorns. In the championship game, though, Florida was held to 24 points, the lowest they scored all season. Oklahoma showed up to that game. The Gators were just a better team.

I wouldn't say that the game was in question until the end. OU was too much for Okie State. Texas did play it smarter as far as keeping their starters on the bench. I think OU had too much of the "New England Patriots" mentality. But, they did have one of the most balanced offenses I've ever seen. I will say this: Colt McCoy should have won the Heisman Trophy. If I could have cast a vote, it would have been for him. No one carried the weight of their team more than Colt.

Well, I think if you watch the game again it was. OSU was down by 10 late in the fourth quarter of the game and had the ball down inside the 5 yard line if I remember correctly. They were moving the ball at will on OU's defense so there's no doubt they would have punched it in. However, they turned the ball over and that pretty much sucked the wind out of their sails. To me that would qualify as the game being in question because OSU still had every opportunity to win at that point.

Absolutely! I'm at a loss as far as who I want to win the Big 12. My stepdad went to Texas Tech, my cousin was born and raised in Austin, and one of my close friends is a diehard Nebraska fan. I've always liked Florida, because I watched their games when I was growing up, and I'm glad they're good again! And of course, I graduated from Boise State, so the Broncos are my number 1, even if they aren't from a BCS conference. I look forward to future debates! 2009 will be memorable.

then apparently you dont know your college football history. The Ivy League started it ALL!! The Ivy League began play in the 1860s. Princeton has 24 National Championships in college football, Yale has 19 and Dartmouth has 17. Those numbers are significantly higher then any other college football team in ANY division.

Judging by this past bowl season, I think Choklahoma needs to find a way to play in the Rose Bowl or have the national championship played there. With the way they're getting clobbered in the other three BCS bowls/venues and the continuing bowl drought, they might as well play in the Dust Bowl. At least they'll have a home game to brag about.
Like in The Grapes of Wrath, they need to take the Sooner Schooner and head west, where they might find some greener pastures in California.

I love all the college teams and I don't have a favorite ( BYU ) so I happy for Florida but their not Champs. You have to win a Playoff to be a Champ,Florida won a game and a made up game to boot. Playoffs is what we need, not someone telling us who is the best. I have no idea who has the best team they won't let them play.

damn, florida won. i thought we had a chance in the first half, but florida's D was too good. 3rd and inches and you run to the side??? QB sneak was the right choice. That interception at the end of the 1st half hurt. It was boggled like 20 times. In the second half, we just got outplayed.

Tebow could run any offense in the country, he definitely could run the OU offense very well. I love the "system QB" comment. I'm an offensive coordinator, every offense is a "system". In my expert opinion Tebow truly could run any offense, wishbone, veer, spread, pro I, no huddle, you name it. If he comes back he may go down as the best college QB ever.

Florida has an O and D in the top 20 in the nation. Oklahoma has an O that is ranked 3rd and a D that is like 60 something. I think our D is ranked 8. I could see us hanging 60 on Oklahoma and them hanging 30 or so on us. But it will really surprise me if the game is closer.
