  • Update - "PICKit 3 Stand Alone Programmer Application v1.0 Released - Wednesday, February 02, 2011 2:11"

for something that Mike had "almost done" 2+ years ago... ugh, punch to the stomach for my misplaced respect. Quick to a response video, but obviously implementing the changes isn't a priority

  • Kudos to Microchip for this video response. They went further than any company to address a bad review of their product. Although giving their reasons for the design seemed a little unnecessary, its understandable. They wanted to defend their reasons, seemingly not for redemption of their ego, but to stress their design was not profit margin based. "fixing" the led's is over and above what I have come to expect from any company. Though, I just bought a pickit 2, for the logic analyser.

  • The tie on Mr. D. Head. LMFAO

  • I love the Dilbert tie at 3:31

  • microchip, ok im still not warmed up to the pickit3 yet....but i love you.

and because of this video, i'm going to make sure to keep pushing your chips in to my company's hardware.

PS. i dont know what the guy was complaining about the "kinda dim leds" with the pickit2. they are fine and can be scene across a well lit room at a 45deg angle.

  • So David Jones of EEVblog pretty much wrote the script for this video?

  • I only just realised what D. Head stands for, haha great response

  • lol, awesome. Kudos to the Marketing team. Or whoever came up with this response.

  • Hahaha, oh wow..... A totally unexpected response in this form is awesome. Props, Microchip! Never thought I'd say that...!

  • they blow it out the first second Atmel was born

  • I want to buy a pic programmer. Is the logic analyser tool is now supported by pickit3?

  • Probably the best corporate video of all time.

  • Love the parity! Only Microchip could pull this off!

  • 10 people are Atmel fan boys.

  • i just got my new Pic Kit 3 yippy!!

i think il make the transition from Atmel to Microchip!

  • That guy with the huge arm is HOT!

  • Microchip Cares...Plain and Simple.....i switched from the 8052 core to the Pic18 after i saw this video....

  • Good one! ;)

  • this is gold

  • great video guys =)

  • I've got to get one of those Microchip T-shirts......

  • I think the girl is so cute! :)

  • Love it. Not many companies would probly think of just rolling with the punches and being a bit honest about a fuckup, so that is very respectable.

Have always loved my PICS over any other controller and i am sure this will remain!

  • Hilarious. Now, please fix your HORRIFIC web site, and work on your documentation too!!!

And give me my damn money back for making me buy some stupid adapter I didn't need.

  • cool like this

  • that's reeally funny guys...

  • XP Pro to Vista to Windows 7 followed this Business Plan

PICkit 3 upgrade to PICkit 4 Now!!! $127.00, in their pocket

  • so,all the bad decisions for the PICKit3 was a result of one bad manager? Is that what we are to walk away with? so you got a scapegoat.. hum.. way to wash your hands of a company sharing the blame.. is Microchip's motto:

"When we succeed, we succeed as a team, when we fail, its because of one person, which we will fire in short order once she/he screws up, its easier this way than to have protocols in place to aviod having bad decision built into products before they hit the market."

  • @averagemale2000 I agree with you, something is not right here. Let not be naive. First the fact that CEO has appointed that 'DickHead' to be head of team. I think that CEO's first motive was to reduce costs. Secondly, he had put 'DickHead' to squeeze the team, so that they accept working longer hours for same or reduced payments and benefits. And when plan has failed, CEO has fired 'DickHead' as scapegoat so that all public rage could be directed to 'middle man' and not him :)

  • lol, nice :)

  • Never expect something like this from a company like Microchip...

They just prove they have soul...

  • i think chinese designed the pickit3, the functions and results like made in china product.

  • Gooooo Micro

    greetz Chip !

  • Anyone noticed that the manager's name is D HEAD....Mr Dick Head...ho ho ho ho....Microchip Rocks....They are awesome....

  • This is a riot

  • MICROCHIP IS MUCH BETTER compared atmel

  • Top response, good on you people :)

  • perfect answear tks to internet and EEVblog for his incredible knowlegd and help to understand things

  • Thanks Microchip. And the tongue and cheek wasn't lost here. LOL

  • I wasn't sure whether I should start with AVR, or PIC. This video sealed it. The fact that you guys have enough of a sense of humor to laugh at yourselves, makes you a company I want to deal with.

  • I assume that no Microchip Engineers were harmed during the filming.

    ;-)

  • Great!

  • Well done Microchip. Got to always leave a little salt on the bread.

  • Awesome. Just ordered a pickit! Won't tell you which though.

  • LOL.. great response.. hands down to Microchip!

  • If Microchip shows serious commitment to supporting Free Source tools (Linux), I may cancel my move to AVR. I do not run and will not run Windows at home. Great response, Microchip. Now, hold the promises.

  • I've used Microchip products for a few years now and their effort to customer service is unmatched. they really do listen and try to get what customers want whether they are hobbyists or commercial engineers.

I haven't much experience with other products, but I honestly can't see anything else out there that provides the same level of support, low cost and concise documentation and the abundance of application notes that help speed up development.

  • hahahahaha this is great!

  • I don't think I've ever seen a better response video. I never would've expected it from a corporate brand, but this is just hilarious.

  • "Engineers work in the dark anyway"

    Classic!

  • 3:31 What's up with Mr. Head's tie? Looks like he took some tie-agra.

  • @ShingleCreek

watch the video they are replying too, you will get it.

  • @ShingleCreek I think that's a reference to Dilbert.

  • Awesome!!! I suppose there is some truth in this response ... but I appreciate the sense of humor. Microchip makes great products -- keep it up!

  • That's nothing. You should see the jackass suits they hire at the Post Office (US).

  • very good

  • Wow, youve just earned my respect and my purchase of a pickit 3. Atmel could stand to learn a lot from you.

  • Guys, I just wanted to say that I admire Microchip for doing this video response. The CEO himself have called Dave and thanked him for the product review he did. Now that's first class customer service! :) Two thumbs up, Microchip. Making mistakes isn't important, learning from them is! Way to go, indeed.

    Arye Segal.

  • You guys are fantastic, enough said.

  • Wow. I'm starting to love this company now.

  • Awesome. Now that's customer service!

Also, congratulations on aquiring the hiTech people. I hope there will be money thrown around, so they get the budget to expand and optimise their compilers, and possibly get a more ergonomic deskchair.

    Cheers people!

  • Hehehehehe........Best vlog response ever!!!!!!

You guys truly have a sense of humor.

Peace and Respect, and may your profits skyrocket.

  • This is absolutely amazing you guys have earned my respect, this is true commitment.

  • Thank you guys for your good attitude!

    Respect.

  • Golf clap! Well done guys, this is how business should be done!

  • Great response! I'm going to get one of those PICKIT 3's

  • Way to go guys! I've never heard of you, but I like you already!

    Great Video

  • Well done Microchip folk!

Way too many business don't give a damn and leave things to monkey lawyers to sort things out rather than produce an excellent and super fun video like yourselves.

Amazing company (and CEO) I think!

  • biscuits and gravy!!!

  • WOW. Genius PR move. I now have lots of respect for Microchip because of this.

  • I will keep my PICkit2

  • Excellent response. This is a great video. YOu are obviously serous about getting your message out.

    D. Head.... Hilarious.. your killing me...words cannot describe how hard i laughed...i like the personal touch with the name placard. YOu guys are a class act......don't stop...

  • You guys rock

  • wow thats the best response they could ever make!

Its funny but at the same time says that they admit the screw up and are really trying to fix it.

    Professional looking video too!

  • What a funny and professionnal video! I really enjoy this video. To fix all those problems, I use a ICD3!

  • Microchip is obviously a special company, given this reply :)

  • Nice to see a company engaging the customer base and not sending a C&D. Also A+ for not taking yourselves to seriously.

  • now i can get more use of my pickit3 rather than relying on my old pickit2 clone...

the boss has Real ICE i see... boss gets high class stuff huh?

  • F**K !

Looks like Mr D. Head become my project manager.

  • Great A+.

  • Quite simply, you guys rule. What can I say, you have earned insane respect from me for this response!!!

  • amazed by the quality of your response. top marks. instead of just the standard corporate route of writing a text statement disputing facts or apologising and promising to do better, you do *this* - along the way saying Yes, we admit we got it wrong; Look

what we're doing to fix it; There are a couple of things you didn't understand; we care and we're listening. and we get it. this is like a textbook wet dream case study for that new breed who advise businesses on how to adapt to social media.

  • D. Head

Hmm I wonder what there trying to say here :)

  • Awesome video response guys, hilarious!

My hats off to you all.

    Dave.

  • @EEVblog & @MicrochipTechnology

Thanks for the classic review & epic response.

Glad to see the pickit3 being changed and having added functionality, and what a great way to promote it.

Great to see a company listening to it's customers and actually make a revision.

    Thanks

  • @EEVblog and Hats off to you....

  • @MyPintado: thnks EEVblog.... u just provided us a great help.... this is a crap video...

  • pretty sad/bad, but I understand you are trying to make a point! Still funny tho. Add features/function and make profit by increasing unit volume sales.
