Update - "PICKit 3 Stand Alone Programmer Application v1.0 Released - Wednesday, February 02, 2011 2:11"
for something that Mike had "almost done" 2+ years ago... ugh, punch to the stomach for my misplaced respect. Quick to a response video, but obviously implementing the changes isn't a priority
Kudos to Microchip for this video response. They went further than any company to address a bad review of their product. Although giving their reasons for the design seemed a little unnecessary, its understandable. They wanted to defend their reasons, seemingly not for redemption of their ego, but to stress their design was not profit margin based. "fixing" the led's is over and above what I have come to expect from any company. Though, I just bought a pickit 2, for the logic analyser.
microchip, ok im still not warmed up to the pickit3 yet....but i love you.
and because of this video, i'm going to make sure to keep pushing your chips in to my company's hardware.
PS. i dont know what the guy was complaining about the "kinda dim leds" with the pickit2. they are fine and can be scene across a well lit room at a 45deg angle.
So why in the world did Microchip hit the market with such a poor tool to begin with. The fact it needed a long time (looks like 12 months +) to fix something that was originally not broken really does not speak for them. If I were a customer who bought a PICkit 3 before the "improvements" got implemented that made PICkit 3 just as good as the lower cost predecessor I would really be pissed about this video, making fun of my miserable experience

As if you don't waste enough time of your customers with your crap product you rather make comedies instead of doing your job. You a bunch of wankers!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a fucking joke. So Microchip hires business monkeys and put top quality, and marketing aware engineers that actually know their stuff underneath them? Are you guys actually conscious of what this video actually means? Refurbished leds? And, look, there is another manager, god knows what laws drive him, who fires the bad manager. And the employees are all happy that their boss is getting fired. That's just ridiculous.
so,all the bad decisions for the PICKit3 was a result of one bad manager? Is that what we are to walk away with? so you got a scapegoat.. hum.. way to wash your hands of a company sharing the blame.. is Microchip's motto:
"When we succeed, we succeed as a team, when we fail, its because of one person, which we will fire in short order once she/he screws up, its easier this way than to have protocols in place to aviod having bad decision built into products before they hit the market."
@averagemale2000 I agree with you, something is not right here. Let not be naive. First the fact that CEO has appointed that 'DickHead' to be head of team. I think that CEO's first motive was to reduce costs. Secondly, he had put 'DickHead' to squeeze the team, so that they accept working longer hours for same or reduced payments and benefits. And when plan has failed, CEO has fired 'DickHead' as scapegoat so that all public rage could be directed to 'middle man' and not him :)
I wasn't sure whether I should start with AVR, or PIC. This video sealed it. The fact that you guys have enough of a sense of humor to laugh at yourselves, makes you a company I want to deal with.
If Microchip shows serious commitment to supporting Free Source tools (Linux), I may cancel my move to AVR. I do not run and will not run Windows at home. Great response, Microchip. Now, hold the promises.
I've used Microchip products for a few years now and their effort to customer service is unmatched. they really do listen and try to get what customers want whether they are hobbyists or commercial engineers.
I haven't much experience with other products, but I honestly can't see anything else out there that provides the same level of support, low cost and concise documentation and the abundance of application notes that help speed up development.
Guys, I just wanted to say that I admire Microchip for doing this video response. The CEO himself have called Dave and thanked him for the product review he did. Now that's first class customer service! :) Two thumbs up, Microchip. Making mistakes isn't important, learning from them is! Way to go, indeed.
Also, congratulations on aquiring the hiTech people. I hope there will be money thrown around, so they get the budget to expand and optimise their compilers, and possibly get a more ergonomic deskchair.
Way too many business don't give a damn and leave things to monkey lawyers to sort things out rather than produce an excellent and super fun video like yourselves.
Excellent response. This is a great video. YOu are obviously serous about getting your message out.
D. Head.... Hilarious.. your killing me...words cannot describe how hard i laughed...i like the personal touch with the name placard. YOu guys are a class act......don't stop...
amazed by the quality of your response. top marks. instead of just the standard corporate route of writing a text statement disputing facts or apologising and promising to do better, you do *this* - along the way saying Yes, we admit we got it wrong; Look
what we're doing to fix it; There are a couple of things you didn't understand; we care and we're listening. and we get it. this is like a textbook wet dream case study for that new breed who advise businesses on how to adapt to social media.
pretty sad/bad, but I understand you are trying to make a point! Still funny tho. Add features/function and make profit by increasing unit volume sales.

Love it. Not many companies would probly think of just rolling with the punches and being a bit honest about a fuckup, so that is very respectable.
Have always loved my PICS over any other controller and i am sure this will remain!
