  • I viewed all of your JV-1080 demo vids, great work, you're a good player! =)

  • @Methanol2000 Thank you very much!

  • greatful demos, very plenty of skills kybd techniques, I WANNA A ROLAND JV 1080 or 2080

  • but all the gm sounds are ok and well controlled by my midi keyboard unlike in performance play, the pitch bend and modulation whell doesnt affect the sounds in perfomance play yet sounds come out when i hi the keys... sir please help me...

  • @ramirkhan Sorry - don't know - would suggest you try the keys, synths, and samplers forum at the Harmony Central website, or the electronic music forum at the Gearslutz site. Many knowledgeable people on those forums.

  • @keybdwizrd sir i get it now... it was because of the battery inside of it..the battery power is important for the memory of the gear. whenever the jv1080 is turned off when you turn it on the edited presets and saved edited sounds disappear instead it shows on screen some unknown characters and no preview sounds ,but when setting it back to factory settings in utility mode.. then all the sounds in patch and user comes back but only back to its default sounds or factory settings...

  • sir i have a little problem ..all the sounds in performance comes out ok its just that some sounds have different names but have the same sound... another problem ( i think a bigger one) all the sounds in PATCH PLAY doesn't come out but whenever i hit the preview( volume knob) the sounds come out..also everytime i turn on the module the screen will say " internal battery low" ....

  • Also whats ur take on the kronos... at $3000 dollars..im thinking im better off buying a vintage synth or something like a micro computing idock.... for my mac vst's. Whats ur take, and do u have any recomendations

  • @soldierbnice I have not played Kronos yet, but have read a lot about it. If you watch the demos on YouTube it seems to have a lot of great sounds. But it is a complex workstation that has several types of synthesis under the hood. These types of choices are always highly dependent upon what kind of sounds you're looking for, what kind of music you compose/play, if you're gigging or not, etc. There is a great keyboard forum at the Harmony Central site for these kinds of discussions.

  • keyboard wizard-- I was given a jv 90. I come to find that it is also a vintage sythn. The problem is it seems so difficult to get basic sounds. Do u have any experience with it. Should i just replace with a jv 80 ( sell tha jv 90 on ebay). What are your thoughts on the jv 90.. its really hard to use...for basics like piano, or electric keys, and layering sounds is a hassle.

  • @soldierbnice Sorry but I have no experience with the JV 90.

  • hi sir ... i bought myself a roland jv1080 hahah!.. im so excited..to post my video on this wonderful machine..its great!... thnx sir for your advice..

  • @ramirkhan Have fun with it!

  • i like the xv 2020 because it is small ..but of course i will still go for sound quality

    ...

  • hi sir i check the vintage synth website but they dont have the reference about the xv 2020 yet they have the reference for xv 5050...does it mean that roland xv 2020 module is latest?... i have a lot of keyboardist friends ( im from Philippines by the way) and all of them uses modules and when i ask them( of course they will say that what they uses are the latest) which is the best modules... in your experience sir what module do you think is the best in terms of its sound quality? and price.

  • thank you so much...for your responses godbless you sir

  • did you just directly connect the contoller to the module?

  • @ramirkhan No, any keyboards/modules/synths I am using are all connected to my Mac, so that I can route anything to anything else. You can do that, however, assuming the keyboard has regular MIDI jacks (since the JV1080 has no USB).

  • @ramirkhan one last question sir... are you familiar with the m-audio axiom 61 keys?..im planning on buying it and use it in live performances..it has regular midi in and out ..do you think any roland sound module will be compatible?..does the rotary knobs and faders of axiom 61 will have an effect on the modules sound?.....which came out first between jv1080,xv2020?... hope you can help me..great video sir and i learn alot..keep posting valuable videos like that..

    ...

  • @ramirkhan Sound modules generally have to have MIDI connections in order to play them, so yes, any Roland module will be compatible with the Axiom. In terms of controlling the sound with the knobs and faders, this can get tricky. Sound parameters for each module typically have their own MIDI continuous controller (CC) number. These numbers are usually listed in the manual or separate MIDI implementation booklet. The Axiom's knobs can be programmed to transmit a particular CC number.

  • @ramirkhan In terms of the Roland modules, the lower the number the sooner it came out. As far as I recall, the modules were generally released in numerical order (1080, 2080, 3080, 5080), except that the 1010 came out on its own later, and not after the 1080. You can read about these things and when they were released at the vintage synth website.

  • can u record those sounds on the fl studio?

  • wonder if its practical to put this on a keyboard stand 2nd tier

  • what was that first tune you played?

  • @0rth0doX A tune I wrote a few years ago.

  • @keybdwizrd WOW it is like its from some great movie like Forrest Gump, so inspiring

  • This Roland JV 1080 is very good!!!

Do you know if it works on the keyboard Roland E-86?

    Thank you!

  • beautifull

  • You are a great player! Why are you playing on a cheap 49 note controller??

  • @tmg1968 Thanks, this is not my only keyboard. :)

  • I am ordering one of those now. :D I just thought I'd check your videos to see if it was anything worthwhile for an aspiring power metal keyboardist, which it very much seems to be. Soooo thanks. :D

  • @FireRagnarok No problem; glad you enjoyed the vids.

  • Very nice playing. I actually am quite jealous of your abilities. By the way, is that a Korg EMX I see in the background on the shelf?

  • @MeuronDB Thanks. I did own a Korg EMX for a while, but sold it as the sounds in it and work flow didn't really fit in with my composing process.

  • Hugo Bass lol

  • I'm sure it's Dave Grusin!

  • @drumsdrumdrumdrum LOL. Thanks (I think). ;)

  • quanti ricordi...

  • @owen320 You need a USB/MIDI interface.

  • @owen320 It is sitting on a metal music stand that is tilted horizontally.

  • wow you are a great piano player, am I the only one that notices? haha

  • Thank you very much!

  • The JV 1080 has nice piano sounds but personally I prefer Yamaha piano samples, the organs are fantastic and the pipe organs sound very realistic.

  • i dont get what souund modules are? do you just plug in a midi keyboard in with a midi to midi lead??

  • Sounds modules are basically synthesizers without keyboards. You can play them with a MIDI keyboard simply by connecting a MIDI cable from one to the other.

  • @keybdwizrd ahh thanks a lot i thought you did that nice vid as well....... safe

  • I have one and an Ederol 49 keys and I love it! There sure is a lot you can do with it...things I haven't even gotten close to yet. But it's fun learning.

  • The first piano preset you play is from an internal card or it is an original patch included in the JV1080?

  • All of the sounds in these videos are original JV1080 sounds - they are NOT from expansion cards.

  • The best pianos of roland,

  • professional

  • great demo you've sold me on this unit sounds great even compared to today's stuff, one question though how are the brass sounds?

  • They are decent, but perhaps dated sounding. Brass sounds are tough to replicate, and I personally think that modern instruments like the Motif and Fantom do a better job.

  • If I had a JV 1080 I would use it's brass sounds, I don't need to hear them to know how good they are but vst instruments do a fantastic job at solo brass instruments, still saving up to buy a JV 1080 off ebay, id even pay over £200 for one if I could afford to.

  • I got the JV 1080 at the end of February for £200 and won a bid for and SC-88pro at nearly £300, well worth the money

  • Technology hasn't changed much over the last 15 years, the JV 1080 is probably better than anything you can get today, one of the best sound module\keyboard I have ever heard out of all modern hardware and my opinion is the JV's brass sounds are to die for and I can't wait to hear them when I can afford to get one off ebay, I'll wait forever if I have to.

  • I think you would make any module sound good

  • Can anyone in this world tell is the 2080 that warm like the 1080?

Or do thay have the same sound engine?, I don`t care about the effects

    Are 2080 and 1080 sound same ?

  • It is said that the DA converters make the 1080 sound warmer. I personally have never played the 2080 and only own the 1080 though sorry.

  • Sorry, I keep coming back to this video to listen to the MIDIed grand patch. I wish I had your playing skills.....then Id record an entire album using that sound alone!

Keep up the great work keyboardwizard - you come across as a genuinely nice person with great skills.

    I always enjoy your vids.

    Thanks

    Jago

  • Thank you SO much for your kind words and encouragement!

  • Hey keyboard wiz, can you post a tutorial about building custom patches and performances on the jv 1080?

  • Sure, I'll add that to the list. :)

  • ill be watching that tutorial too

really nice video btw, thanks for sharing!

  • I love the sound of the MIDIed Grand. It's got that late 80's early 90's vibe to it. Perfect with a DX7 bass sound...

    Thanks

  • Yeah, I like that patch a lot too.

  • Hello!

I'm very disapointed with the keyboards that are been made nowadays. They're too weak...If you're a heavy metal keyboard player, it's almost impossible to be heard when you have electric guitars and insane drumming in the same room!!

Do you still think that a sound module like this could be a good answer against noisy guitar players? My Juno-D LE is really upseting me.

    Thanks!

(BTW, sorry for my terrible english!)

  • Several Bands (Including myself) Keyboards players use this module, namely Children of Bodom & Stratovarius

  • Do you know if R-jv90 keyboard data can be loaded into R-jv1080 internal memory ? I saw some of your other videos, very impressive Keep up the good work !!

  • Thanks, sorry, but I don't know about that.

  • Can you play and demo some trumpets and saxophones please.

  • What is that song you play on the 64voice piano?

Is that your own creation or is it a song?

  • Any chance of a similar demo featuring BRASS sounds ??

  • I'd like to hear 'Jimmee Dee' too! Also the preset called 'Cathedral' and it's harpsichord. Please do a video with those if you get the time :-)

  • There are audio demos, including Cathedral, at Synthmania

  • Yeah I've already found it haha. But there is nothing about Jimmee Dee, or some harpsichord sound?

  • I don't have it hooked up right now so I can't comment exactly on the Jimmee Dee sound. I think it's a bit like the D-50's "Staccato Heaven" patch.

The JV-1080 and 2080 don't really have a harpsichord patch besides the General MIDI one, which sounds just like the Sound Canvas harpsichord. The XV series have a harpsichord but it's nothing spectacular.

  • Now why did Youtube not attach this as a reply to the below post...

  • what is available in the piano mixed with strings voices?

  • Midi grande reminds me of the water level in super mario 64 hahah

    anyone else?

  • YES!

  • @KevWillow7 yeah

  • Can you do splits on this module?

  • Is there anyway you could incorporate the jimmee dee patch into one of your demos? it is my all time favorite patch from the jv series, since seeing your demos on the 1080, I am regreting selling mine

  • How about jv´s pads, strings, bell, choirs and all those "ambient" "ethereal" sounds? Are they really good? Would you post one with those? It may be too much to ask... pleaaseeeee lol

    THANKS!

  • My question has been answered from a prior post Thanks a bunch you play great!!

  • Do you know he has the Piano expansion card for these Piano sounds or are these the stock sounds? Thanks in advance!

  • excellent music. forgotten how musical the old jv/xp piano could sound.

  • clearly this is where you shine on this synth... In the Piano banks! Love your work!

  • I've seen this video for at least 10 times, but it always impress me once more. The first minute is one of the best things i've ever heard :) Such music can be only made by a man with exceptional talent.

  • FYI, I have also released another version of this video with stereo sound.

  • what midi controller are you using. i like the action your getting but i cant get the same. i have the radium 49 its an older m audio model. also if nothing else could you recommend a good controller? thanks. im yet to get the piano's to sound that natural my radium velocity jumps to much.

  • M-Audio Oxygen 49.

  • And an amaizing Hammond sound complete with Leslie simulation and mod wheel adjusting the Leslie rotation! And an amaizing solo!

Sorry to write two consecutive comments - my bad I didn't watch the whole vid first.

  • Is cool, glad you liked it.

  • That Classique sound is really sweet!

  • Hi KeyboardWizard, I've just baught a JV-1080 and I wonder how can I activate Sustain/Reverb effect with patches such Pianos & Guitars like in your demos, I noticed that you play with, and by default there's no Sustain effect.

Thank your for advicing me, I'm new to expanders.

  • Sustain is accomplished using a sustain pedal, like the M-Audio SP-2. These are plugged into the keyboard you're using, not the JV1080. Reverb can be adjusted on a patch in the JV1080 by editing the patch itself. Hit the parameter button and then the effects button and you'll find everything you need in that menu.

  • Ah ok, so I must look for a pedal for that.

    Thank you a lot.

  • Hello KeyboardWizard. I was just wondering what you think about your M-Audio Oxygen. ( am thinking about getting the Oxygen 61 and would like the opinion of someone I can trust). I realize that it is only a controller and does not have very many features, but do you like the response/weight. Pro's and con's...any tips? etc.

Thank you very much. Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I love your work. Keep it up.

  • Frankly, I find it difficult to get excited about any of these cheap MIDI controllers. I had an Emu X-Board 49 and thought it was miserable - I didn't like the action and couldn't find a velocity curve setting I liked. I've had the 25-key Oxygen for a while, and found it tolerable, so I replaced the Emu with the Oxygen 49. Definitely better, IMHO, but again, nothing to get excited about.

  • Would you recommend another Midi controller (about the same price range)? I have a DGX-620, and use it for the sake of hammer action/recording, but I need more of a synth action feel controller to use with Reason for more or less the same type of music as you. (more for a lead keyboard that is)

How do you like the action and pitch/modulation wheels on the Oxygen 49? Sorry to bother you, but once again, I would like the opinion of an expert.

Thank you once again KeyboardWizard. You're great.

  • Thanks, I am hardly an expert. I have nothing to recommend beyond the M-Audio, on which the pitch and mod wheels are fine.

  • Just to clarify... All sounds in this video (as well as my JV-1080 videos #1 - 3 are "stock" in the JV-1080... these are NOT from expansion boards.

  • The JVC has really some really nice presets. The first 64 voice piano demo is instantly recognizable as a Walthius tune--thinking I'm getting (some of) your harmonic style down. Just lovely!

  • totally cool!

  • you play awesome...nice songs....and this JV Pianos sounds very good
