@wholderby This season will be an interesting one for the Hurricanes as they have a new head coach and they have a pretty interesting schedule this year. The Ohio State game is a huge barometer, but I did not like how they finished the season against Notre Lame (yeah that's right)...With a road opener against Maryland on Labor Day and an off week before OSU, they have some time to see what their strengths are...
I will see them when they play USF in December. Hopefully that will be good.
For all the ignorant comments being made about bands now compared to back in the 80's and 90's and such: You can't compare bands today to bands back then because musical preference and entertainment preference has changed tremendously over the years. Musical preference is even changing now as I type. Because most college bands are sources of entertainment they have to keep up with what the people like. People aren't listening to Patti Labelle, Diana Ross, and The Temptations anymore.

Hey do any of you all know if FAMU Band Members suffer the hazing rituals that members of the other BIG BAND schools suffer? I saw the story on Real Sports and it is terrible what they showed those school's poor people go through. I would hate to think that these marvelous players had to go through that initiation. Just curious.....
@wholderby Yes, if not worse. And practice doesn't end until the wee hours of the night. My roommate was a member and we lived within earshot of the field.

Everybody wants to be a rapper and video model, so if you're lucky enough to find someone who can read sheet music, you take what you got and throw them on the field in hopes that they have some span of memory and rhythm....it will only go down hill from here.
@bmoreed Yeah, they are not up to the same par as a REAL band but I would rather have 95% of the talent on the field be the players and 5% be the band rather then a different combination :) - would be great to have the Marching 100 and a good (refreshed) Miami Hurricanes....we shall see....the Band of the Hour learns 1 or 2 new songs a year and milks them far too long.....in my opinion of course.....the mics on the field did help them out a lot though.
@bmoreed I believe so. But they blow. Pecking order in Florida: (1) FAMU (2) FSU (3) UF (4) UM .... there actually may be some schools better than UF and UM, but it's really about the 100 for flair and the Marching Chiefs for traditional pageantry and good music.
@notenoughcereal I will definitely check out FSU and UF. But I think maybe FAMU and BCC alternate between which band is the best in Florida. I've recently seen a performance from the Bethune Cookman marching band in Va and I think that they are the best in Florida this year. If you get a chance, check them out. They are so freaking clean!!!
These guys are SHOWMEN. That's what a band should aim for: putting on a great show. FAMU is the best I've seen at doing this. Great music. Great sound. Great band.
You get a real feel for FAMU's power when they start playing to the home side and it sounds loud enough... then they turn to the camera and it gets LOUD!
Gotta respect the FAMU band, they know how to put up a great show. Not a fan of HBCU's marching bands, but FAMU is by far the best at what they do, can't compare them to drum corps cuz its a complete different style, but I enjoy their showmanship. It's always fun talking to them after games too, since Im part of the BOTH....anyways, GO CANES!

@kdk1970 Sony HDR-SR11 - I love it....I filmed last night as well and will be uploading it shortly - the only issue last night was the people walking up and down the aisle - last night did not seem as good as last years performance...they didn't "funk out" as much or something...and it seemed like they played towards the away side most of the time....I will watch my own video again to verify this....was hard to hear them this year (not so last year when I filmed this)....

its called the marching 100 because when it was originally created they had 99 member so they just called it the marching 100...and it was in 08 when they were 500+ strong!
@THEREEKSTER ....sorry but that is wrong information....When Dr. William P Foster started the band ("100") in 1946, the had 98 band members 1 drummajor and 1 majorette..and that= THE INCOMPARABLE MARCHING "100"....and in 2008 the weren't 500+, the were more like a good 425-440.....fall 2k9 HUBBA "100"

I'm in the Band of the Hour now, but I marched showstyle in high school (I've got six friends in the 100). No comparison. I enjoy what I do now, but I so wish we could switch styles.
@xXPerryHotterXx With all due respect to FAMU, I don't have the urge to kill myself because I know a top-50 college education is worth more in the long run than four more years of showstyle. That and the scholarship that I get for band that doesn't happen at FAM.
As I said, I have total respect for FAMU, but when it comes to academics, UM easily comes out ahead in most aspects. And UM gives a scholarship to every single person who marches in BOTH. I know everyone in the 100 doesn't get one.
This is one of the reasons why I want to go to FAMU ( The Band and A Good Education).....I had so much fun at this game although they lost, It felt Like FAMU still won da game because of the BAND keep it up!!!

FAMU, you're good at what you do...but do you HAVE to dance first, when you're pressed for time??? Srsly, you put us back like 40 years when you choose dancing over drilling. And what's crazy is that you're THE most creative HBCU when it comes to drilling.
If you're pressed for time, you should make sure the performance is as exciting and entertaining as possible. Dancing is exactly what you should do in that situation. Those UM fans didnt come to see us drill. They came to be entertained. The band only gets 7 mins when they play the White Schools. Drilling doesn't keep the butts in the seats during half time... Trust me, concessions took a hit that day. I was there and nobody left their seats...
Sir...If you really took the time out to really investigate you would realize that we had two performance. This was only our halftime show. Our post game show was actually a drill....smh

Thanks for posting this -- I live on the other side of the country now and it's nice to see the band again. The team got their butts kicked by Miami that night but the band represented us in fine style. Go Rattlers!

calling yourself the marching 100 often times is used for bands that have over 100 members. It sounds nice thats why.

@ehscymbals011 Don't hate.....respect "the show" - if it were all marching and playing away on the wood-winds, I would NOT have recorded it and the stands would be full of empty seats out buying beer.... Compared to the Band of the Hour, uhhh - I was thrilled with FAMU....

You obviously know nothing about the 100. They are ALWAYS together, they dance but they also ALLL about the MUSIC. you will NEVER and i mean NEVER found a band who actually sounds better then FAMU, try watching something besides this 1 vid before judging.I dont go there but i plan to. They are the best sounding band ive ever heard and by far the most exciting.

I'm in the Band of the Hour now, but I marched showstyle in high school (I've got six friends in the 100). No comparison. I enjoy what I do now, but I so wish we could switch styles.

@xXPerryHotterXx With all due respect to FAMU, I don't have the urge to kill myself because I know a top-50 college education is worth more in the long run than four more years of showstyle. That and the scholarship that I get for band that doesn't happen at FAM.

As I said, I have total respect for FAMU, but when it comes to academics, UM easily comes out ahead in most aspects. And UM gives a scholarship to every single person who marches in BOTH. I know everyone in the 100 doesn't get one.

This is one of the reasons why I want to go to FAMU ( The Band and A Good Education).....I had so much fun at this game although they lost, It felt Like FAMU still won da game because of the BAND keep it up!!!

FAMU, you're good at what you do...but do you HAVE to dance first, when you're pressed for time??? Srsly, you put us back like 40 years when you choose dancing over drilling. And what's crazy is that you're THE most creative HBCU when it comes to drilling.

If you're pressed for time, you should make sure the performance is as exciting and entertaining as possible. Dancing is exactly what you should do in that situation. Those UM fans didnt come to see us drill. They came to be entertained. The band only gets 7 mins when they play the White Schools. Drilling doesn't keep the butts in the seats during half time... Trust me, concessions took a hit that day. I was there and nobody left their seats...

Sir...If you really took the time out to really investigate you would realize that we had two performance. This was only our halftime show. Our post game show was actually a drill....smh
