  • Absolutely inspiring, uplifting, and passionately performed. You can see the anointing escalating as the song progresses...powerful.

  • i prefer andrew hobson's version better, but my, that's not to say that this is not a masterful rendition. what a voice! why haven't i heard of this man before? it is surely a sin to keep him hidden from me all these years.

  • Wonderful

  • "The holy city" was my fathers favorite song. This version is so amazing, brilliant and lovely. It made me cry. I miss my dad and I feel close to him when I hear this spirited singer.

  • wow amazing

  • Well done certainly a different interpretation & I absolutely love it. Brilliant voice.

  • Thank you God ...... His voice is a true gift....keep up the good work!!!!!

  • que voz mais linda Deus te abençoe !!!!!

  • Although I'm an aetheist I much love this song and this beautiful interpretation. Our long parties would often conclude (in the wee small hours of the morning) with friends gathered around the harmonium singing their lungs out as I peddled and played with gusto. It brings back so many memories. Mind you, none of us sang anywhere near as perfectly as Steve. What a stunning voice from a truly beautifully spirited young man. Warmest best.

  • What an excellent, beautiful praise to God. Absolutely incredible!

  • SALUDOS- AGRADEZCO SIN ALGUIEN ESCRIBE LA LETRA DE ESTA CANCIÓN - EN INGLÉS - GRACIAS - mariaeugenia-

  • Love it!!!!

  • What a beautiful Glory to Our GOD!! God Bless. Sharing this on my site.

  • Awesome!. Keep praising the Lord with your beautiful God given talent.

  • Enjoyed hearing your performance of this classic. My dad paid me $20 when I was learning to play the piano many years ago, to learn the accompaniment for this song. It was his favorite and my brother and brother in law have both sung it for him and it was sung at his funeral with a recorded midi that I had done. You did an awesome job. Keep singing it.

  • Finally! Let's praise God with all the glory and honor we can give Him! True worship! Praise God for this marvelous talent...The best instrument God has ever created on earth is the human voice.

  • oh my... thank you.

  • God

  • Really enjoyed your singing, great voice and great interpretation of this classic song. Thanks for sharing, all the best in your future.

  • Why on earth to people have to confuse the excellent achievement of humans with 'god'? This has nothing to do with 'god' but it exudes an awe-inspiring realisation of human accomplishment. The sooner we understand that this is the show and NOT the rehearsal the better our world will be for it.

  • @vernonpage His voice is a natural and Godgiven gift that he uses for the glory of God!

  • @Hans021220 What utter drivel. Why are the beautiful things always attributed to 'god'? I love HUMAN achievement but detest 'god' wallowers such as yourself. In any other context religious belief would be considered a mental illness, that's a fact!

  • @vernonpage Please don't taint this page. Of course you are entitled to your opinion, just as everyone else is. Did you for some reason think that you sharing your feelings, as irrelevant as they are in the context of this video, would somehow achieve something good or worthwhile? No. This is youtube, no views on complex issues of any value are expressed here. Watch the video, if you did not like it, then leave.

  • @TheYodes272 What drivel! "Please don't taint this page"? I am entitled to state my opinion as much as you are. What you don't like is the fact that someone dares to come here and speaks their mind. Then you said "No. This is youtube, no views on complex issues of any value are expressed here". You clearly haven't explored You Tube very much if you can arrive at that conclusion. Wallow in 'god' if you choose, but don't tell me what to do with my liberated mind.

  • @vernonpage Actually, after having checked your channel, you comment as much as you like. There probably arn't that many other things to do with your remaining years besides youtube for an overweight, 50+ self professed oracle. It wasn't your views that were just too much for my Religious, and therefore limited intellect and sense of self. It was the fact that you obviously just scroll through all youtube videos searching for something religious in the title, and then proceed to pick a fight.

  • @TheYodes272 Again, but typical of many blinkered religious people, you show an appalling lack of insight into the lives of non-believers. At 57 I gained a postgraduate qualification in teaching with digital media. I am no 'self-professed oracle', preferring only to believe in accepted research criteria for my beliefs. You however are stuck in a pre-medieval mindset along with your religion. I don't just scroll through the web picking fights actually but I am entitled to air my point of view ...

  • @vernonpage Congratulations on the postgrad, that's at least 5 years of fun before you die. Which part exactly of my last comment was typical of many 'blinkered' religious people? I believe everyone is entitled to believe what they choose (including you!) The vast majority of my friends are non-believers as you put it, however this does not mean I value their opinion or insight any less than anyone else. Read my initial post again without your defensive, non-believer blinkers on...

  • @TheYodes272 There you go again: "There probably arn't that many other things to do with your remaining years besides youtube for an overweight, 50+ self professed oracle" and "Congratulations on the postgrad, that's at least 5 years of fun before you die" must mark you out as quite a man. I am also a single-parent to two young children, so my life is quite fulfilling thank you. Blinkered you are as you cannot see further than your own sphere and when you try it is limited to insults. Well done.

  • @vernonpage Your replies all seem to follow the same framework. If you see past the insults , you will see both answers to your statements, and questions to your answers. Both of which you seem to overlook for some reason. I can't help but feel perhaps you are the one limited to your own sphere, as you are the one disregarding other peoples views, steadfast in the knowledge you are right and everyone else is wrong. Perhaps there is more to existance than what you see?

  • @TheYodes272 ... but it was you that wrote: "There probably arn't that many other things to do with your remaining years besides youtube for an overweight, 50+ self professed oracle" and "Congratulations on the postgrad, that's at least 5 years of fun before you die." That to me seems like conclusive proof that you are rude and arrogant and handed out the insults. I called you blinkered and you are. You may have age on your side, but your social skills from the above appear to be sadly lacking

  • @vernonpage It sort of seems as if your'e replying to a different comment than the one I posted. However, I'll summarize the issue. Ignore the insults, they were more for my own amusement than anything else. I'm sure you're a wonderful and respectable person. But I do resent peoples personal beliefs being completely disregarded and compared to mental illness in any context... Especially in response to an entirely harmless rendition of Holy City, and the compliments people were giving it.

  • @TheYodes272 I am replying to your comments. If you read my post carefully I said: "In any other context religious belief would be considered a mental illness". Let me explain for you. If I said that I believed in aliens who made us as humanoids, and that we should treat them as gods, and that we should send messages to them by just thinking our adulations to them; and that I knew they existed because they made miracles happen, what would you think? Are you going to tell me you'd think me sane?

  • @TheYodes272 Furthermore, I have read our entire dialogue and it is you that has made pointlessly rude comments about my age and physique. You are blinkered because you seem to think that I should not air my views here: "Watch the video, if you did not like it, then leave". It is you who is trying to tell me what to do and not the other way around. If I want to post here I will and if you don't like it, sorry but I will still post if I wish. You re-read our dialogue and read your own rudeness.

  • @TheYodes272 This is the comment you made that simply was not logical:

"Of course you are entitled to your opinion, just as everyone else is. [...] Watch the video, if you did not like it, then leave."

Which means that I am entitled to my opinion but I should not express it. As I said re-read your own posts. I could just as easily have said "if you don't like my opinion then just ignore it - browse on" but then I believe that people should say what they want to say.

  • @TheYodes272 something you deny me, ergo comments such as "that sharing your feelings, as irrelevant as they are in the context of this video, would somehow achieve something good or worthwhile? No. " and "Watch the video, if you did not like it, then leave.". I like the video but the point that I made is that this is a human achievement and has nothing to do the 'god' you clearly imagine is real. By the way, you insult yourself by insulting me as it shows your immaturity and lack of manners.

  • @vernonpage Before we move on, if it would help, I apologise for the insults. However what you are failing to grasp is the actual reason I responded at all. There is a time and a place for certain views, without just intentionally antagonizing the people the material is aimed at. For example if I were to go onto a video concerning the Muslim faith and say "All Muslims are unintelligent suicide bombers" as an extreme example, regardless of your view, you have nothing to gain aside from...

  • @TheYodes272 ...offending people. Your personal beliefs are just that. I have no intention of trying to sway you otherwise. People's beliefs regardless of your own opinion should be respected. If not out of pure politeness, then as a celebration of the uniquely human ability to look further into life and the universe than any other lifeform can.

  • @TheYodes272 Point taken, but I do argue with Muslims (including my own in-laws who are Muslim) and I do post freely wherever I wish, You can challenge ANY atheist on Facebook or You Tube about his/her beliefs, so why not the other way round? It may sound boringly contentious, but dialogue concerning something as important as who may or may not have made us is, I believe, crucial to our way of life. If you knew Muslims and their lives you would know how impossible such freedom is for them.

  • @vernonpage I'm glad you take my point, and I take yours too. Perahps similarly, I also take issue with more conservative Christians on subjects such as the Earth being 6,000 years old, Creationism and so forth (Paleontology and Zoology being my main passions in life). The major difference is I don't go looking for a confrontation. I think, I consider, and I learn in order to advance and refine my own understanding of my beliefs and the world as a whole. The point where you impose your own...

  • @TheYodes272 ...beliefs to the detriment of others beliefs, you become just as bad as the people you've taken issue with in the first place. The mistake people make in general on this subject when treating various groups as one rather than as an individual is that not all religious people are carbon copies of the people you see in channel 4 documentaries. Far better and brighter people than either of us dedicate their lives to their religion, and it is a mistake to generalize...

  • @TheYodes272 ...based on the people that ruin things for everyone.

  • @TheYodes272 (aka, what you would describe as god wallowers wearing religious blinkers)

  • I had the tremendous pleasure of hearing Stephen sing at my church during our New Years Eve service. Amazing doesnt begin to describe the gift he has been blessed with. Stephen sings with clear, smooth tone, remarkable control and a range that had me on my feet, applauding before he reached the chorus. If you ever get the chance to hear him sing in person, you too will be amazed abundantly blessed.

Go big places, young man!
