Here's a stupid question: In that I am about to get one of these and considering that they are not to be dry fired, without counting rounds, how to you know that you have fired all 15 rounds in that if you are not aware of it, you will dry fire the gun. Thanks.
I am trying to buy a Henry Golden Boy and I was hoping to be able to shoot those in my back yard, but everyone that I have spoken with tells me that they should not be used in rifles in that there is a danger of lodging a bullet in the barrel.
I have a Winchester 190 that my great grandpa bought in '77 and I'm gonna go ahead and retire it to the old gun rack. I'm currently considering buying one of these due to their great reputation and because i need a new squirrel/rabbit rifle.
im looking to purchase a .22 lever action, preferably .22Win Mag. out of everything available out there what would you recommend? i was kinda leaning toward Henry but what do you think. i will be using it only at the range shooting mostly at paper and accuracy is the very very important to me...also how easy is it to disassemble and clean? thanks for your help...
@midnight1963 it is a gun He is Using Super Colibre ammo. It has no gun powder but usees compressed air in the shell You can twist the tip off of it. I use it all the time and it is enough to break glass. You can shoot it in your backyard without the cop's commin.
@loliamapie You can use a tubular speed loader. You simply remove the follower all the way out and pour the bullets into the tube from the reloader. Fast and easy.
@Luger718A1 ....why do you need an elderly woman during the zombie apocalypse? i could understand taking your grandma or something, but it sounds like you would deliberately find one to take with you. xD
Whats wrong with shooting in the garage, I shoot in the basement all the time. Just have to use the "primer only " loads of the Aguila. I use the CCI cb shorts in the back yard for 50 yard shots. Way fun. I need to get a newer rifle though....LOL. Looking at a Henery that's why I stumbled here.
@pieman7771 They are very quite! I plink with mine all the time without hearing protection! And most other .22 rifles, not a pistol though, just about make your ears bleed!
He shooting 22lr ( maybe 22 shorts) rounds with no gun powder the bullet is propelled by the primer. It's not much diffrent than shooting an air rifle the rounds are very very weak so that should answer your questions
I am actually trading a Marlin 60 towards one of these tommorow, not because the Marlin is bad, its accurate, but i dig this lil rifle, got two 10 22s, need something different, and this is neat.
I was considering one of those but the reloading is a bit disconcerting. It almost looks like you have to have part of your hand in front of the muzzle to reload it. How do you clear the weapon, by working the action repeatedly? And can it be reloaded from the ejection port?
cool video i wish i could shoot in my garage, only problem is ive got the .44 big boy and live in the burbs, i can dream though..cute lady by the way!
@CharlieDoan Great question. Barrel length does not determine accuracy. I do not own a Marlin 60 SB so I have no way to test which one is the most accurate.
@fredhart Actually, barrel length does determine accuracy. For example, in a typical revolver, a 6 inch barrel is much more accurate "down field" than a 2.5 inch barrel. But in terms in rifles, a 2 inch or so longer barrel wont really make a difference in terms of accuracy.
@CharlieDoan Not entirely true!! If you're using iron/open sights then having a longer barrel with more distance between the rear and foresight will heed greater accuracy, however.....using a telescopic sight on a short or long barrelled rifle/pistol will give same results. Where the barrel length comes into it is dependant on the twist rate of the rifling eg: 1:16 which means 1 complete twist in 16 inches so anything after that length is wasted effort on the bullets flight.
@CharlieDoan barrel length most certainly DOES play a factor in accuracy, but as fredhart said, it doesnt DETERMINE it. The largest variable with rimfires is the ammo you use. A $99 rifle will likely be more accurate with good quality ammo than a $3,000 with cheap ammo. If you need better accuracy than either the Marlin model 60 and this Henry can provide, I would say look into the .17 hmr or get into centerfires and handloading.
@Fbwest I show how it is loaded in the video. The pointy end of the cartridge is pointing toward the crown of the barrel. The crown is where the bullet comes out when you pull the trigger :)
@TheGunsDoKillPeople You are probably the most retarded and screwed up person when it comes to firearms, you people will not trample all over our 2nd Amendment, and will NOT EVER take our guns away. Damn liberal pricks!
@TheGunsDoKillPeople Did you really just call a lever action .22 an "assault weapon"... ahahahaha what we really need is a ban on stupidity, looks like you'd be an outlaw then.
@TheGunsDoKillPeople So what you propose is to make guns illegal if they hold more than 1 round and are bigger than a pistol. I'm sorry, I wasn't aware the Second Amendment said "The right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed, unless the arms are large and have more than one round, as this would scare the piss out of our pussy asses". Now go back to your box.
@TheGunsDoKillPeople Guns helped win and keep your freedom in this country. You have the right to be unarmed but do not have the right to unarm every US citizen of which 100 million own firearms. You should consider moving to a gun free country when you grow up.

I just bought a Henry lever action .22 LR and love it. It is very tightly made, very accurate and nice looking too. Of course California, assinine state that it is, made me wait 10 days to pick it up. Didn't want me to go on a killing rampage I suppose, although if I wanted to do that I could have used any one of my several other firearms.

Only in America can we shoot guns in a garage at a paper target with (?) paperboard backing and the kitchen on the other side of the wall ! Just make sure to use the poorest grade bullets. You don't want the bullet to migrate into the family room and puncture your grand dad's oxygen breathing tank. It would blow the hot dog with relish and mustard right out of his hand...
The backing is a steel lined bullet trap and my backstop is safe and not toward my kitchen or house. Additionally my dad and grand dad have pass away. If this was a joke, then disregard.
i usually only shoot my henry when im angry at something. (please dont think im violent for saying that, cuz im not violent at all) yesterday i wasted 333 rounds of ammunition on hedge apples and bottles.
After shooting clean up a bit the fingerprints of the brass tube in the magazine and the outside of the rifle also the wood. So you get it shiny a. proper. Cleaning the barrel once in a while depending on how often you shoot and some drops of oil in the lever system if you think it is really necessary. If you do this after 1000 rounds it is still o.k. and accurate. Even with lead ammo. I also shoot more then this without problems! VG
Nice that video is really good!! First time shooting a gun and got bulls eyes? I wish I can do that !!

Marlin 60 SB, the barrel is little bit longer than tihis one. Which is more accuracy?
CharlieDoan 1 year ago
@CharlieDoan Great question. Barrel length does not determine accuracy. I do not own a Marlin 60 SB so I have no way to test which one is the most accurate.

lambchops1493 10 months ago
@CharlieDoan Not entirely true!! If you're using iron/open sights then having a longer barrel with more distance between the rear and foresight will heed greater accuracy, however.....using a telescopic sight on a short or long barrelled rifle/pistol will give same results. Where the barrel length comes into it is dependant on the twist rate of the rifling eg: 1:16 which means 1 complete twist in 16 inches so anything after that length is wasted effort on the bullets flight.
microchipper 1 year ago
@CharlieDoan barrel length most certainly DOES play a factor in accuracy, but as fredhart said, it doesnt DETERMINE it. The largest variable with rimfires is the ammo you use. A $99 rifle will likely be more accurate with good quality ammo than a $3,000 with cheap ammo. If you need better accuracy than either the Marlin model 60 and this Henry can provide, I would say look into the .17 hmr or get into centerfires and handloading.

Great rifle, I have the carbine, very handy thing.
Thanks for showing your "garage shooting range", looks like a lot of fun to go on 5 to 7 yards.
And it made your mother happy! :-)

@KingKoodles
In fact there is not much to clean and maintain.
VG

Thanks much! But what about the action itself? Is there any real need to take it apart and cleanit, like the bolt on my 452?

Only if you feel that it works to hard and think it need to be cleaned, but this can last for years. LoL
No really need to do so. Reliable stuff! VG
