As a soloist he is rock bottom in the food chain. Completely fucktardish and unimaginative. In the recording world he is a 4/4 timekeeper w/no chops. Who's role model? Not mine. For studio John Robiinson is the King. And Jim Keltner.
@realdrummer110...Who cares? This guy works more than you do. You don't get the big bucks for playing solos. You get hired for playing flawlessly, learning music fast, and being professional, and Aronoff does those things as good or better than anyone.
@grahmnash1 Nobody pays this guy to solo. !!! Nobody likes his lame solos!!!!!
Yes he gets alot of studio work and makes good records.. But so what. he doesn't inpire anybody in drumming much except in the mercenatry whore kind of way. he's nit an artist is what I'm trying to say.He doesn't have a voice..He's a certified mechanic player. Woohoo.
@Simenter13 think of a four peice set up, yea. haha that tom is there for vibrance and tone when needed. its odd i know, and i hope the way i described it made sense. but generally yea
Mellencamp wanted Kennys set to look like Ringo Stars old Beatles setup so he had to have the big tom up front and he used to have the small tom realy tucked outta site hes just used to playing with it this way now.Look at some old Mellencamp stuff with Kenny playing and youll see.
The smaller tom is not lower pitched, he just plays it in a different location. Listen and watch VERY close and you'll see. Also, check out his videos on Vic Firths page and he'll explain that its about the way he plays that adds a dynamic sound instead of the normal progression.
The Tama drums sound great maybe better than any other drums I have heard including pearl reference and yamaha pheonix. I have a Tama kit although its a superstar but I want to get a starclassic.
@cheemooo these drums are good; i like Kenny cuz he was in the Silver Bullet band but i personally love Don Brewer, these 2 should have a drum off or something
@cheemooo tama drums are really good but i think pearl is better and i am not just saying that because i have a pear vision vbx hahahaha i think everione has their own preferences. sorry for the bad spelling i am from mexico
the loudest most powerful drummer ive seen live but not as loud and powerful as Tommy Aldridge

Since I am an Old School drummer I like the sound of Ludwid better than any drums I have heard.
Second choice would be Tama.
Third choice would be Slingerland, even though they are rare and getting rarer (you have to buy a vintage kit now to get any).

Kenny is a real Stud Daddy behind the kit. The ultimate rock drummer in look, chops, stage presence, and attitude.

He plays open handed, in general. Its a very different thing.
Now, he plays a hh on the right. and an extra on the far left
notice this places cymbals on one hands without crossing arms.
I play lefty right, which has my hh and ride on the left, china to the left of that and several crashes out on the right.
I am ambidextrous and got much of this from Simon Phillips, who plays equally on both sides, or even Bruford, who has a symmetrical approach now.

Interesting that his smaller tom is lower in pitch than the larger tom next to it. Unusual set up, but it works.
