Santiago Calatrava REAL future ARCHITECTURAL AND creater most of his design are Beautiful and it makes people think...i realy love his designs and ideas.....:-)
My Fire safety engineer tutor told us that this guy is an involuntary man slaughter!!!!!! No doubt, his buildings look all fantastic! But when catching fire, his buildings will become the most dangerous buildings. Problems are all on the compartimentations!!!!!!!!! For example, Dia-Grid allows for unusal deformations that have the potential to break compartmentation. As engineers, pls do not say we don't care fire!
I don't want depreciate your tutor but I don´t think that many people around the world would let "this crazy killer" build many building around the world just because he is nice and cool. I know Santago´s name but i never heard about your safety engineer tutor.
i am an architect and a big fan of SANTIAGO CALATRAVA i could just learn one thing from this play that some things great!!!!!!!!! are simply said and done.
I don't have any problem. You alone watch at the maps that you they give reason, without knowledge anything of architecture nor of the persons.I'm architect and Calatrava's friend.Your world finishes in a map or in the first border with "guardia civil". We're not inside world yours. Your nationalism of handbook dosen't interest us.I advise to read books and abstracts, reviews on Calatrava of the world. Here finishsed the discussion.Nothing to make with you.Two worlds very different.
see the sun roof in the olympic stadium in athens!!! it makes you feel great but it covers the sun of only the 50 percent of the chairs. take a sun lotion if you go there in summer.
My experience studing architecture as well practicing structure enginering I notice the lack of interest in structures from students and lack of knowledge from colleagues architects. I think architecture and structures should be integrated at the begining in the schematic design phase. Remember that you works for a client that hires you to design a nice building and the same time be efficient and economical.
Although I think he is an amazing artist, engineer, role model, and aesthetic, his resume` consists of a whole career dedicated to one signature style of engineering and building. I'm not a famous architect yet I believe his works are limited to a certain niche of the public. If he had a much more diverse and experimental repertoire, I gather he would receive not only more accolades from his peers, but also a more diverse clientele.
I get so excited when I hear these genius of architecture talk... I wish one day I can project such beatiful, artistic and worldwide appreciated buildings and structures. Architecture is my life!
If art is defined as not being functional, then the question "Is architecture synonymous with art?" is valid. It has nothing to do with a "functional business culture of ugliness", and everything to do with the utility of a piece of art.
He is one of my major influences in my chosen profession. Architecture. Tnx for sharing this wondeful video.I'll wait for more amazing Santiaco Calatrava's videos!
Great interview! calatrava provides flexible buildings, fusing arts, structure & arhictecture, with a future vision. One of the best architects in the whole world.

Hi riveracedeno !
I think some you.
The desing of architecture isn't possible without the structure.
That's the question always for the architecture. They're going together. The rest is, only, to decorate.
All the best for you.

Darborio,which is your problem?
josepblesa 3 years ago
Caltrava nación en Benimámet Valencia. He mirado en un atlas y Valencia está en España
Por lo tanto Calatrava pertenece a la cultura española.
Calatrava was born in Benimárte Valencia. I ´ve just seen an Atlas and Valencia is in Spain
Therefore, Calatrava belong Spanish culture
Which is YOUR problem?

Aquest home és un geni. Els catalans, sempre vius malgrat els imprevistos del destí, seguim marcant els patronsevolutius de la humanitat.

At least he knows how to put a building together. Many architects have greats ideas but their little kwoledege in structures make look them stupids.

You say this without bringing any explanation not even example that
clarifies it to us.
Thanks you.

How would you classify this "niche" of people that Calatrava finds?
christobal880 3 years ago
As engeneer, his structures are something incredible.
As architect, totally agree, he always does the same expensive, pompous and out of context thing.
Greets from Spain!

the question that Rose poses, "arquitecture can be art?", is only conceivable in USA, a functional business culture of ugliness supreme.
Look at all the Celtic Roman Visigothic Romanesque, Gothic, Arab , Rennaissance, Baroque Neoclassical Modernist Avangard ...arquitecture in Spain.
xgocadiz 4 years ago
Also all the great colonial buildings across the worl (from San Jaun Puerto Rico to MAnila to Durango to Cartagena in Colombia to Quito, etc etc
The question in light of the Spanish arquitectural past is grotesque.
