  • at the end of this extra scene the tv is supposed to go to static as if they had cut the lines you were using to watch the film

  • Maybe the director just wanted to have his George Lucas moment.

  • this ending SUCKS!!! tipical hollywoodian movie...

  • Version I watched ended like this.

  • /watch?v=3oKfSCn2RW0&feature=related

    thats the song

  • If I saw this ending originally it certainly wouldn't be one of my favourite ever films like it is now.

I SO happy this isn't the version I saw on TV! Although, even though I think this ending cheapens it immeasurably, it would have been nice to have it on the DVD copy I subsequently bought.

It's funny to think that such a fantastic film is only so due to a fluke - what luck! I hate having a story force fed to me and having everything wrapped up in a neat little package, like this nearly did.

  • the one i saw on youtube had both endings

  • @xwgrace Well, it's not actually like there are two alternative endings. There is a short ending and a long ending. The short ending excludes everything after 0:30 in this clip. But the long ending includes everything the short ending has. So the one you saw one youtube must have been the long ending rather than both.

  • They are in the Basque country , seeing the boat´s flats I think they are in the north , in Biarritz or Hendaia ( Hendaye).

  • I also prefer the other ending. They are in basque country because in the boat there are three flats : the spanish one, the french and the ikurriña ( the basque). They probably are in the north of basque country : Biarritz or near.

  • One of my absolute favorite movies of all time. Have to say I actually prefer it without this ending, though. It makes them too much into the Monkeywrench Gang. The other version just has more subtlety; it leaves the questions and complexities still echoing in the air, whereas this ending ties it up far too blithely. "... And then our intrepid heroes continued on ... next stop after monkeywrenching European TV: Glen Canyon Dam!" Too easy. So glad to see it, though!

  • This should come on shortley after the credits start rolling, as some sort of appendix

  • ever realiced that it is the boat of the capitalistic man?

mybe he changed and they just wanna give him a alibi

  • @CRUSHBOY11491 I thought that man had a blue boat? Because when Jan and the girl are sneaking around his yard, the hull definitely looks blue. Unless he had multiple boats.

  • i don't like this ending..i prefer the other wlere the educators remain rebels

  • @liberator2313 they still are rebels. they want to destroy the antenna towers on teh sile nearby.

  • this is the only ending I have seen. What is the other one?

  • the version i saw ended with this piece of paper on the wall.. "some people never change", or something like that.

i like it more than this version, i think is more.. powerful? i don't know, i made me smile and think "so true"..

  • @sofiipote7 this one is more powerful thou, because it shows that they don't give up on their 'big' dream.

  • @sofiipote7 I agree with you on that, I think it's enough to let viewers know that they managed to get away with it, there's no need to actually show where they are. We all see they're somewhere else because they'd foreseen what Handerberg was gonna do. I prefer the other version too.

  • @gab3alex The point is not that they "foresee" what Handerberg was gonna do. He clearly tells them in advance with this ending, and allows them to use his boat for their plans.

  • @CheeseBubbles It's the same as this ending except it stops at 0:30. Just shorter.

  • Ok...I still didnt get the ending...? Where are the three sleeping in which house ...and whats happen to the gentleman in the car...?

  • They are sleeping in a Hotel near the Island with this TV-Station(I dont know the real englisch name of this thing) The Gentleman in the car is allright. He informed the Police and watched to this action.

  • i was going to say the non-german version was better.. but now that the german was translated, both are equally great endings.

  • hola, buenos días- ¿puedo entrar a limpiar la habitación?

  • can you tell me what the song in the end is?

  • check the video description

  • Knights of the Jaguar

  • I saw this film in German with English subtitles, but it ended with the part where the maid comes in to knock. However, I don't understand what Jan says to Jules and her boyfriend (Peter) later on at the restaurant . Can anyone translate for me please?

  • Jan says: We're at the Eastern side of the isle, just about here... One stays in the boat, two cut the ropes that fixate the antenna towers. A bit later all 13 ASTRA satellites should be disrupted. TV transmissions all over Europe will black out.

  • Thank you:)

  • Great film. The note was meant for Hardenburg and was reflecting the Edukators views. It was saying that even though he had changed and become a rich capitalist they weren't going to abandon their ideals. Good for them! ;-)

  • Well i think that it means the rich guy never changed coz he is still a man with all his money and hasnt changed even though through the film he understood where Jan, Peter and Julie were coming from.. if you get what i mean. So there, some people never change.

  • i prefer the ending that was used though, as it is more ambiguous. it leaves me still in wonder at the crew's talent at being enigmas.

  • the normal end (which ended before the scene with the boat) does not make any sense. It makes you believe that finally he went to the police but it does not explain how the activists suddenly were in a very good hotel or what the note means. It says some people never change - it means that the rich guy (I don't remember his name) is still as he was in the past (like the guys who kidnapped him). I don't know why they decided to cut the last scene and change all the meaning of the movie

  • I think maybe where it says "some people never change" may actually mean that Hardenberg HASN'T changed because even though he seemed to change while kidnapped he still lied and went to the police anyway. That is my take on it anyway.

  • Yes I know, that's also highly possible. But it's not clear what's the end of the movie...

  • yeah he tjing is that if you remember when watching the movie the old kidnapped guy told the young guys about hisself, when he was young; that he had the same ideas and was political left and not like he is today. so you see the guy never changed.

i really prefer this ending because its positive and lets some space for an open end.

  • ahh i wondered where they went -- thanks for the post

  • Der Peter sieht sooooooooo gut aus!!!

  • I think that the end that it's shown on tv is not bad, it's even better in the way that you're in a suspense when you see the police knockin' on the door and then you find out that in fact the edukators are gone. Of course, the origina one is ok too, but it's not very surprisingly ^^ I'd prefer the other one

  • this film is ace. this is such a different ending to the actual one...wat goes around comes around haardenberg

  • Beige GT - Knights of the jaguar , awesome song

  • Can anyone give me a name of this outro song? :)

Great movie BTW, just seen it on Polish television... Yeah, ironically ;]

    Jeanine

  • beckebecke// Thank you very much ;]

  • Great movie- I just saw it 4 the first time (germany) but I heared of another ending. And exactly! :-) The good base-idea is still preserved and all the intelligent informations about this sick system but that censored ending is a kind of consequence which is missing now.

It's almos a miracle that they showed us that movie in the public television- in contrast to the typical propaganda of the rich ruling minority- but the true ending obviously is already too rebellious 4 them. ;-)

    Revolution!

  • "Knights of the Jaguar" mix by Beige GT ;)

  • pliss tell me, Whats the name of this song at the end ?

  • @ majumoto09: it's called hallelujah by lucky jim, if you mean that song

  • other ending is better

    greez

  • best film ive ever saw

  • WHAT SAYS THE PAPER ??

  • "some people never change"

  • exelente... aca no se vio ese final!!!!

    censura???(censored)?

  • I think that it was Hardenburg who wrotethe note - it's his handwriting, plus if the 'Edukators' had written it, it would have been typed & it would have been signed 'The Edukators' like all the others. Also 'Some people never change' would not have made sense, because Hardenburg was a hippy in the past. Harbenburg had to have written it.

I think they steal the Yacht, because they're looking quite shifty - the clothes must just be to seal the 'look'. Maybe.

  • I don't think it was Hardenburg who wrote the note:

The identity of the Educators was revealed by Hardenburg at this moment; no need to go through the trouble of typing the letter out.

Secondly, Hardenburg was a master in lying as indicated in the phone booth, he could have easily made those 'hippy' stories up in order to get released.

  • Very true, very true.

I doubt we'll ever know unless we ask the producer or scriptwriter...

  • uh, danke schon for posting this!

I prefer the original ending actually as well. It's much more ambiguous and open ended. however this would make an excellent DVD extra feature...

  • Love this movie. Prefer the original ending than the extended one, though.

  • Why the hell is this comment marked as spam..?

  • Thank you.

  • I prefer this ending!

Finally they did what they were thinking about

    Such a great movie.

  • When I saw this movie in Denmark, it was with this ending. I think it's fine, because the note "Manche Menschen ändern sich nie" didn't make any sense to me, since Hardenberg HAD changed (he said that he had been like them back when he was young).

  • i think hardenberg rote it, and he gave them the yacht. he never changed from being the anarchist from the 60's.i loved this movie tho, real good.

  • I actually don't like this ending. I thought it closed everything off. In the non-German versions, where they closed the movie off with "Manche Leute ändern sich nie," with the satellites rolling in the credit background was a much better ending. The last quote was not only meant for Hadenburg, but I believe it was meant for the Edukators as well. No, Hadenberg won't become a revolutionary... but the dukators will not give in to what they stand against.

    That's what I think.

  • I speak some German but there is too much noise in the background, what I can understand is "A short time later, all thirteen thirteen satellites should be disturbed. The whole programme for Europe goes out."

  • Also nochmal.

  • nice movie I watched at Taiwan.. and amazing.. but can somebody hel me?.. who plays the song at the end.. I'm trying to know for one year.... please.. answer me..

  • It's original made by DJ Rolando "Knights of jaguar" or "Jaguar" or something like this

  • They arent living with Hardenburg, and they didnt take everything of him. They dont agree with the capitalism, and that woman wasnt hardenburg maid.

The thing is, hardenburg called the cops, but before that, they left the apartment, i guess handerburg warned them about the cops. And now, he is helping them with that idea of cutting the tv transmition, remember? We can tell that he is helping them, because he borrow his boat to them.

    is that clear? lol

  • They obviously stole it, it would be out of character with the characters. After all, Hardenberg screwed them over by calling the police... but they knew he would and left beforetime.

  • Oh yeah, but then he had to do this anyway; to keep his job and face in his society. Could as well have been a plan forged together with the Edukators. That's so nice about the ending...

  • The note "Some people never change" is a reference to Hardenberg's past with the kpd, no? I always assumed to told them to leave and left that note there, then called the police (he'd have to for insurance, etc.)

  • I'd never thought of it that way!!!!

    That's a really interesting idea

  • why would he have to call insurance -.-, its just that he didnt change.

  • well, how would he explain his sofa ending up in the pool to his wife? he would have had to report the initial break in

  • i saw this ending in my country, Ecuador. how was the other ending?

  • okay, i didnt understand the english ending.. Did they take everything from Hardenburg? Are they living with him? Was that his maid? Did they start to live with capitalist ideals cos they found it easier to conform?

  • No, they ran away to Barcelona where they took a room together before going on to detroy the sattelite dish/thingy. They remained true to their ideals, outside of their environment Hardenberg reverted to being an elitist capitalist.

  • why they remove this from the English version? Is there something there that I'm missing or did they want the end to be more ambiguous?

  • look up the video description

  • Thank you so much I've been looking all round for this!

  • i love this movie!!!

  • Aber der TV- Ausfall am Ende fehlt!!!

  • Stipe und Daniel sind echt hammergeile Schauspieler

  • Wow amazing movie !

  • yeah it sucks that the end isnt in the other dvd's. i watched the german version at school and rented another version and i was sad that the end wasnt there!

  • this movie is awesome
