Thanks for posting this, I was able to share this cartoon of my childhood with my son. It made for priceless weekend with him as he suddenly seems to have fallen for having some actual "Fancy boots" of his own. He really liked the cartoon and maybe someday he may pass it on to a son of his own...
I couldn't sleep last night, so I started to think over my childhood and though I knew that when I was 4&5yo I loved cowboys and cowboy themed stuff, I had just remembered (which i hadn't remembered for a very long time before) that I use to really love an old disney cartoon about a kid who dreams about cowboying. I also remember on the same cassette a donald duck cartoon of the three amigos.
it is strange to me though because I had all but forgotten about this cartoon.

There was a shortened version of this (with just the song and not the cut scenes that involved his adventures with bandits and indians) on a Disney sing-along VHS tape I had as a child. I completely forgot about this until just now! Thanks for the memories Mr./Ms. uploader!

i remember watching this on the disney channel back in the 80's when i was a kid. they used to play lots of cartoons from the 60's and 50's. they really dont make em like they used to anymore. i'd love to own ones like this and lambert the sheepish lion on dvd if anyone knows where i can get them......
i don't know how i came upon this video but i'm glad i did. i'm only 25 but i used to watch this cartoon so much when i was kid, i wanted to be this kid in the cartoon
Thanks so much for posting this! I saw this years and years ago as a kid. And, just tonight, my kids and I were parked outside of a place that sells horse tack and saddlery. I started singing this song, and they were so curious to know where I got it from! So happy to show this to them! Thanks again!

Good grief, you silly PC people can't just let children enjoy something for what it is, pure fantasy. I'll bet you still see racism and sexism at every corner, instead of what every little boy wants to grow up to be, a hero and a peacemaker.
I remember watching this as a kid! I loved it and sang it all the time! Good Ole Disney Racism! Native Americans are portrayed as so stupid they could be outsmarted by a 4 year old, and be extremely fasinated by Bubbles!!
Good classic short. Animated by Bill Justice, and based on a song first written & sung by Jimmie Dodd on the original "Mickey Mouse Club" show of 1955.
To me, the song is as classic as Gene Autry's "Back in the Saddle," Roy Rogers & Dale Evans' "Happy Trails," or Bing Crosby's "I'm an Old Cowhand." Yippie-yi-o-ki-ay!

Why can't their be a Disney Channel just of these old classic cartoons? So sad my kids will miss out on this stuff. Won't let them watch any of the that live action garbage on Nick/Disney they play no a days but I would be glad to watch this with them. ^_^
This is a very good cartoon. I expected the boy to smoke the pipe but instead he blew bubbles which is great for kids! I miss these older show for children. They were what made tv good for them. Now with all this reality tv kids are learning the wrong things. I wish they would go back to simple shows and cartoons like this.
lol, the chief looks like the chief from Peter Pan!! Now that I thik about it, Peter Pan was in production/theatres around the time this cartoon was made . . .
Random question: When I was younger, I remember that we had this on a video tape with a couple of other cartoons (I'm assuming, all Disney). One of them involved a little girl sitting under a tree next to a lake. She's reading a book and falls asleep. She has a dream that she's dragged under water and enters this crazy fish-world. I forget most of it, but long story short, she does something wrong and gets sentenced to the electric chair. Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? HELP!
i so remember watching these as a kid.. when i have kids they will NOT be watching the crap on TV nowadays. I'll try my best to get all of the old classics....these vids taught children things that Hannah Montana/Spongebob/other crap could never live up to. This brought back wonderful childhood memories. What an awesome dream for a child!
I used to love classic disney when i was small. i am 21 so i was not around when they first made this but they used to have early morning dinsney and show classics and i like dthis. i always wanted to be a cowboy. BUt i would have eloved to have a kiss from that girl. At that age i already had interests in girls so this would have been perfect for me.
i love these classic videos! disney has really lowered their quality of childrens shows! you could put this on in front of me as a child and i would i would be so mesmorized! thanks for bringing back some of my child hood memories!
I like the way he lives in a modern home and yet he dreams about adventures in the old west. I think it's just human nature to seek adventure. Comfort is nice, but all I need is my spurs that go Jingle Jangle Jingle.
@menilleo43 18, but I remeber watching this when I was 4 years old, back when the Disney Channel played quality cartoons. There's just none of the classics on anymore.
@wolfdemexico 18 here as well, and I remember watching these too! I never did watch all the weird shows they had, when they started changing it all. It's sad kids nowadays don't get to experience childhood like we did and others before us. So sad.
@dory423 It's not so much that the new stuff isn't that great (and it's pretty bad) but the fact that Disney no longer plays any of the classics. Cartoon Network too, they never play the old Loony Tunes either. It makes me sad, my brothers have never even seen this cartoon.
My wife and I just received this in a compilation DVD to show to our 11 month old and our 2 1/2 year old. What memories this brings back. The song is wonderful as is the animation. I was born in 1967 but I can't recall what TV show or whatever I heard/saw it on, but somehow I remember it. does anyone out their know how I may have heard it? I grew up outside Washington, DC.
same here i remember the song but the entire animation i had never seen before. there was a disney film brought out which contained all the disney songs for children to sing along to and this song was one of them. i'm surprised i still remember it since i was about 6 at the time. well i hope that answers your question.
Oh my gosh! I remember this song! It was on a singalong videotape I had as a kid! I loved when the pencil drew him all sorts of things! I think when I go home for mid-term break, I'll watch my old sing along videos. :)
@Latebargirl, they're not completely forgotten, I'm 16, and I still watch them, in fact I don't really like the new shows Disney puts out, they're not as good as the old stuff
I cant get my 6yr.old to watch this because disney has indoctrinated them with all thier crap shows and i am to blame for letting my kids watch to much, these innocent cartoons are forgotten unfortunately.
When I was a kid I remember "Captain Kangaroo" played this song to static drawings. I didn’t know it was from a Disney cartoon. Mystery solved. Thanks for providing the childhood flashback. Can I have my milk and cookie now? Pretty please? :)
ts all beause people now are so crazy about rascism and everything else, god forbid a native american might be a lil too red with a feather on his head, same thing with songs of the south and the tar baby
You and I are very much alike, my friend. When I was a smaller child I would watch this on the Disney Sing Along Songs... and Devendra Banhart is my favorite singer! I imagined him singing this exact song, as well, especially the "oooh-weee" part at the end.
I used 2 watch this on an old disney singalong video (don't ask me y) but it only had the begining and the end with the singing (where they mention his stuff), seeing the whole thing is great!
The horse is adorable. This may just my childhood kicking in, but i genuinely feel emotional when the horse goes...
Ahhh I've been looking for this short cartoon for a long long time. I remembered when I was a toddler, when we used VCR players to play tapes back in those days, my mum always play this for me when i'm lying on the sofa suckling on to my milkbottle. The "Wooo yeee~ Wooo yeee~" is the most captivating part for me.
I am about to get a tattoo of this cowboy riding wood horse.

@Latebargirl Ain't that the truth. I pity you and your child.

When I was a kid I remember "Captain Kangaroo" played this song to static drawings. I didn’t know it was from a Disney cartoon. Mystery solved. Thanks for providing the childhood flashback. Can I have my milk and cookie now? Pretty please? :)

@GFX8887 Walt Disney died, thats what happend.
This is why you never put too much faith in any particular brand/company, things change, thats the only thing that never changes.

The theme can be heard as an instrumental in the "Frontierland" themed areas at the Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts!

I remember this cartoon! It was also part of Disney Sing Along.
