I remember Capt Kangaroo loved the show Too bad kids today dont get programming like this....I even got to meet Mr. Greenjeans and dance with dancing bear when i was 12 or 13
What was great about "Captain Kangaroo" was it struck the perfect balance between the educational "Sesame Street" (with its overt, political correctness & social engineering underpinnings) and the almost too leisurely, gentile pace of "Misteroger's Neighborhood."
Actually, "Sesame Street's" frenetic format has been criticized by some as a contributing factor to a few generations' having developed short attention spans, perhaps a forerunner of ADHD.
Bob Keeshan's "Captain" could be as gentle as a grandfather reading a storybook, but also knew when to be goofy and drop some ping-pong balls, or waltz around his "Treasure House" with "Dancing Bear.:"
What I got from watching Captain Kangaroo as a kid will be with me until the day I die. It's great to hear his thoughts on children and contemporary TV as well; he's pretty sharp!
I agree with you. " It was a disgrace when CBS canceled "Captain Kangaroo." After so many years of service, the network should have virtually considered the program, like its newscasts, almost on the level of a public service.
And what has been done with Keeshan's old time slot in the ensuing years--a typical morning show, always a third-place Nielsen finish behind "Today" and "Good Morning America." At least with the "Good Captain," CBS was doing something different than its competition.
I loved Capt Kangaroo, except the "Town Clown" scared the shit out of me!

Gee...I knew him as a little kid, but now as an adult I realize how insightful and articulate he actually is in real life.

Dear Nefarioso, Bill Murray of "SNL"as "CK"?
You've got to be kidding!
He would never NEVER be"Captain Kangaroo!"
..not even in an "SNL"Skit!

I disagree with Mr.Keeshan and the gentleman
..who is interviewing him. Not all of the kids tv shows that Mr.Keeshan and
this gentleman are knocking are that bad.and they should
have watch them before they can knock them.

Unfortuneatly..There are also parents that are
parents that are abusive and insensitive and cruel. So?
Not all parents care about their kids..they should but
they don't.

Just looking at this clip, Bill Murray would make a great Captain Kangaroo in a movie.
