is it worth doing this? I'm going home for a while and my girlfriend needs a computer. I was thinking about putting OSX on a wind but wondering if I should get a netbook or laptop.

Hackintoshes are really cool, but they can be a pain to maintain if you don't know what you're doing. Unpatched updates from Apple could break your install. If your girlfriend isn't tech savvy and isn't willing to put up with the hassles of getting OS X to work on a non-Apple computer, it would probably be better to buy her a laptop running the operating system(s) it supports.
