Is this REALLY the first version? I though it was a Royal Guardsmen original. Also there is a Peter Pan Singers recording that's a close copy of The Royal Guardsmen version.
@cmulwee001 Yes, the Royal Guardsmen did the original, as far as I know. That version was a staple of my childhood Christmases!! However, this version is great!!
Well if you like The Royal Guardsmen original, then there's a soundalike cover version by The Peter Pan Pop Band and Singers. The differences are minimal. The Peter Pan Singers version is just slightly faster, the voices are only slightly higher pitched, and there is a slight lyric change instead of " So He asked the Great Pumpkin For A New Battle Plan" it goes "So he Figured All Out A New Battle Plan" Check it out.
@CubsfanGSO Also, the cover of the album from whence the Peter Pan version came has a picture of what The Red Baron might have looked like. Which is ironic, because actually, in both the comics and TV specials, The Red Baron had something in Common with the Great Pumpkin. Like The Great Pumpkin. Ol' Red was never seen.
@julianofamber One's dead, the other can never die.... I know, Ze Baron is one of my heros too, but the fact is Aussie gunners back in 1918 shot him down. Snoopy can never die, he's always going to be around
This is my favorite arrangement! :-)

Poor Snoopy always got shot down. His dog house full of bullet holes and trailing smoke.

Isn't it peculiar how the historical inaccuracies bug me, even though it is a song about a canine fighter pilot?

Manfred von Richtofen has been a hero of mine my whole life, but The Snoop's been high up there on my list, too. Crap. Who to vote for?!
